Enter the world of Hello Kitty at HELLO KITTY SMILE, an oriental restaurant that’s opening on Awaji Island―Japan’s ingredient gold mine―on April 27, 2018.
Organic and eco-friendly are the keywards at this restaurant, where they serve luxury fusion food made using traditional Chinese cooking techniques that incorporates Japanese elements. You can also enjoy dozens of varieties of High Tea from inside and outside Japan, pinchos, and more.
Projecting mapping will be used to bring to life the world of Hello Kitty on orbs in the restaurant spanning a diameter of close to 14m. The restaurant will also be home to a theatre where you will be immersed in the wonderland of Hello Kitty’s dreams.
The spherical LED lights that float overhead change with Hello Kitty’s mood and feelings with projection mapping that tells the story of Hello Kitty’s dream world.
The walls of the theatre will be decorated with things like apples and teacups that make up Kitty’s world.
There will also be a giant kaleidoscope standing 2m tall and 3m wide where you can see admire her world with moving images of Hello Kitty and her friends.
A shop selling limited edition merchandise will also be open, so if you’re a Hello Kitty fan you’ve definitely got to visit!

Fans of Japan and Japanese culture may know that Kobe’s food scene is not to be missed. A new restaurant, KANBE, is now open and tells the story of the city’s food culture. The grand opening was on November 30 in Sannomiya.
The story begins with water, the source of Kobe's food. The city’s famed fare like Kobe beef, Suma salmon, and seasonal vegetables will take the stage through storytelling, projection mapping, and uniquely planed dishes. Ingredients are served to guests the same day that they are delivered to the restaurant, offering the freshest possible experience. The restaurant also offers a wide selection of drinks made in Kobe, including Nada Gogou sake and Kobe wine. These are made using Nunobiki water from the Rokko mountain range, meaning that everything guests enjoy was truly made in Kobe. At KANBE, visitors will chat with a storyteller who weaves the story of Kobe's food into the experience. A chef himself, he is well-versed in cooking methods, food history, and nutrition. The 18-meter-long counter adds to the experience by displaying seasonal scenery, the water of Nunobiki, and the night view from Mt. Rokko. Nature sounds, like the murmuring of Nunobiki Falls and the chirping of birds, also echo through the restaurant in time with the projection mapping, creating an atmosphere that feels alive. Starting September 3, Keio Plaza Hotel Tama will offer a special dinner and dessert buffet inspired by the Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and Wish Me Mell. The adorable event will take place at the Jurin restaurant on the 4th floor, and guests will be able to enjoy some cute dishes and desserts inspired by the character’s gratitude. The event will run until October 30 and will only be held on weekends and holidays. The restaurant’s patissier has designed a collection of sweet dishes based on the two characters, from strawberry shortcakes inspired by Wish Me Mell’s outfit to pastel-colored cakes and rainbow jello. Cream-filled fruit sandwiches cut to look like Hello Kitty’s face are sure to offer guests the perfect photo op! The Naruto and Boruto Ninja Village located at the Nijigen no Mori anime theme park in Hyogo is celebrating its third anniversary! A new event has begun celebrating Sakura’s birthday, and fans of the characters will be able to grab some neat merch. Those who purchase tickets to this special event will receive a Mission Accomplished Sticker featuring an original, newly-drawn design. The celebration is running until June 30! The escape game will have park guests running around the park looking for panels with hints on how to progress. For this event, the panels contain keywords and illustrations related to Sakura. Visitors will really have to use their brains to figure out the solution!
