The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku celebrated its 3rd anniversary on September 3, 2018 with a commemorative event.


The event saw special versions of their popular lunchtime and dinnertime show take place. Customers were entertained with a variety of shows including a burlesque night, a geisha show, a show by the restaurant’s iconic monster girls and more.


It was announced at the event that a new regular show would be introduced to the schedule which will take place on Friday every week. It was a very special one-night experience for guests both Japanese and those who had travelled from overseas.

KAWAII MONSTER CAFE holds numerous monthly events every week under its KMC SHOW CASE schedule for adults to have some late-night fun. For example, the ‘KAWAII Geisha Night’ which takes place every Tuesday and is hugely popular with foreign tourists, ‘TOKYO POP CULTURE NIGHT’ which it put on by the Monster Girls every Wednesday, and ‘Thursday Burlesque Night’ which sees sexy burlesque dancers singing and dancing.


The new regular show to enter the schedule this October is titled ‘GO-GO Friday’ which will be hosted by dragon queens.

A host of gorgeous dragon queens will perform dressed in fabulous outfits and invite guests into a fantastic and thrilling world.


The event also showcased a Tokyo 2020 themed selection of food which had that iconic KAWAII MONSTER CAFE twist. It included the TOKYO Roll Beef which is a vivid creation of five-coloured sushi rice topped with roast beef, Goshoku Tarts which are made with caviar, fruit and other ingredients, the Colourful Pop Burger “2020” and more.

The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE is now three years old and has served over 400,000 guests. As the number of foreign tourists to Japan continues to increase, the restaurant is sure to have more and more people enjoying Japanese nighttime in the run up to the Tokyo Olympics.

    Harajuku hot spot the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE will hold a Halloween event entitled “KAWAII HARAJUKU Halloween PARTY 2019” for the entire month of October.

    The Halloween season is almost upon us in Japan, where the spooky season’s festivities often begin a little earlier in October as cafes, restaurants and shops start serving up their own unique Halloween-themed menus.


    This year at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE, the Monster Girls are inviting you to their kaleidoscopic Halloween party. From vampires to werewolves, Frankenstein’s monster and beyond, prepare to encounter a Halloween like no other with a line-up of colourful dishes.

    Colourful Pop Burger: Frankenstein’s Monster – ¥1,580 (Before Tax)

    The cafe’s mascot character Mr. Choppy has been turned into Frankenstein’s monster! This fat and juicy burger is filled with salsa sauce and melted cheese. Even the bun is cute and colourful too!

    Choppy Baron’s Dark Curry – ¥1,400 (Before Tax)

    This time, Mr. Choppy has turned into a vampire for this pitch-black curry, laced with other Halloween colours too like purple and orange. This vivid plate isn’t just tasty, its appearance has life to it too.

    Nameless Cemetery Cheese Glutton – ¥3,200 (Before Tax) *Recommended for 3+ people

    This surreal dish is a giant breaded coffin filled with gratin, rainbow-coloured cheese, and white sauce. Surrounding it are bats, eyeballs, and gravestones.

    Monster Bongo Bongo Tiramisu – ¥1,080 (Before Tax)

    An assortment of ice creams like matcha and houjicha all coated in Halloween-coloured chocolate. Hidden underneath the ghoulish pile is colourful cereal.

    Midnight Pumpkin Chiffon Cake – ¥1,580 (Before Tax)

    A fluffy chiffon cake topped with black sesame ice cream and a pumpkin lathered in pumpkin-flavoured fresh cream. The trickling bloody chocolate completes that Halloween look.

    Bark At The Moon – ¥980 (Before Tax)

    This adorable wolf dessert appeared during a full moon. It includes a crunchy doughnut on top of which is sat a sweet black sesame mousse werewolf.

    Non-Alcoholic Basil Seed Jelly Cocktail – ¥900 (Before Tax) / Shake Hip Shake Chocolate – ¥950 (Before Tax)

    There are two drinks to pick from this Halloween: a dark chocolate shake with a pumpkin floating on top and a cocktail filled with basil seed and jelly for an enjoyable texture. The cocktail can be served non-alcoholic or alcoholic.

  • Come Witness The Hello Kitty X KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ HARAJUKU Collaboration

    Sanrio and Harajuku’s KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ have set out on a two-month collaboration which will run until September 1. Sitting at the heart of Harajuku, which is the home of kawaii culture, the KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ is topping up its kawaii powers with the release of Hello Kitty collaboration meals and merchandise that you cannot obtain from anywhere else.

    For the collaboration, Hello Kitty has transformed her look, turning into a kawaii Harajuku girl. 

    Once you enter the café, you will immediately notice the giant cake-shaped merry-go-round called the SWEETS GO ROUND. This time, you will notice that Hello Kitty’s head garnishes the top of the cake.

    Make your way through the cafe and you will eventually come across the Mel-Tea Hello Kitty Room, which is a special room that must be reserved in order to experience. On pink tatami flooring sits multiple low tea tables, representing the traditional culture of Japan in a colouful pop style. Foreigners would  just love to spend some time in this room. Looking around the room, the macarons and strawberries remain in their usual places. 

    You will notice Hello Kitty’s ribbon and even many Hello Kitty stuffed toys also decorating the room. This entire new kawaii world locked in this room was created by Sebastian Masuda. Surrounded by a world of pastel colours and kawaii decorations, you just have to take photos.

    The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku is teaming up with Sanrio bring Hello Kitty, Harajuku culture and kawaii culture to the restaurant in a collaborative event that will run from July 12 to September 1. This year marks Hello Kitty’s 45th anniversary and KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s 4th anniversary making this an event not to be missed.

    “Harajuku x Kawaii x Hello Kitty” Themed Menu

    Eight dishes will make up the colourful menu arriving at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE on July 12 inspired by Harajuku, kawaii culture and Hello Kitty.

    Dishes include the Hello Kitty Burger packed with colourful melted cheese sauce, the Hello Kitty Harajuku Rainbow Curry which imagines Hello Kitty looking up to a rainbow after the rain lets up, and more.

    Don’t forget the beautiful desserts either from a vibrant pop cake to a gorgeously layered parfait, all imbued with kawaii♡

    During the event, customers who order from the collaborative menu will receive one of these original coasters featuring Hello Kitty and the restaurant’s popular character Mr. Choppy.


    Mel-Tea Hello Kitty Room: A Special Reservation-Only Room

    Also running at the restaurant during the event will be a special reservation only “room” which can be found at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s popular Mel-Tea-Room area.   • TEMPURA KIDZ Collaborate With Moe Shop to Release New Song ‘UKIYO’

    News photos of dance and vocal unit TEMPURA KIDZ have been released. The photos were taken under the supervision of the leader of Harajuku’s kawaii culture Sebastian Masuda.


    It has also been announced that the group are set to perform at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku every Wednesday for a new event aimed at foreign and locals tourists entitled TOKYO POP CULTURE NIGHT ~HARAJUKU CELEBRATION~.

    The theme of this event is “Harajuku Tribe” which sees TEMPURA KIDZ dressed up in colourful tribe-like Harajuku wares in which they will put on a new performance called “Harajuku Celebration.” The group teamed up with French DJ and producer Moe Shop to create original music for the performance.

    Both artists will release their collaborative track UKIYO on June 18. The song features a “Future Funk,” a genre which sees Moe Shop as its spearhead. It is a colourful pop anthem that fuses with TEMPURA KIDZ and the members’ personalities.。


    With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics right around the corner, TEMPURA KIDZ continue their mission to spread Japanese culture around the world.

  • KAWAII MONSTER CAFE Unveils Rainbow Coloured Menu For Golden Week

    The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku is getting ready for its Golden Week fair “Harajuku KAWAII Party 2019” which will run from April 27 to May 6. The theme of the event is “rainbow,” the bridge which the cafe will use to tie together the Heisei era and impending Reiwa era.

    Colourful Cheese Dak-galbi w/ Rice: ¥2,100 (Before Tax)

    This rainbow meal is a Korean dish, Harajuku-style. The spicy chicken is topped with four different colours of cheese.

    Colourful Pop Burger – Jellyfish Burger: ¥2,400 (Before Tax)

    The Colourful Pop Burgers are a regular item on the cafe’s menu, the most popular of which is the Blur Burger. This is that burger but redesigned to look like the giant jellyfish that wraps around the cafe’s bar area Bar Experiment. The cheddar cheese are the legs and drape across a teriyaki chicken burger.

    Heisei & Reiwa Connecting Rice: ¥2,300 (Before Tax)

    The centre of this dish is blue rice which is the earth. Topping it is cheese, a baby tomato, and cherry blossom coloured ribbon which represent Japan’s national flag. It comes served with omurice, beef and hayashi sauce. The ribbon represents the tie between the Heisei and Reiwa eras.














    Harajuku Rainbow Mini Parfait

    This special marble coloured parfait is available during Golden Week only. It’s topped with a rainbow that represents the bridge between Heisei and Reiwa.

    Colourful Cream Puff

    These bite-sized cream puffs are coated in pastel coloured chocolate. It comes served with two kinds of roll cake.

  • Colourful Harajuku Area to Open at Nasu Highland Park With KAWAII MONSTER CAFE Collab

    During Japanese Golden Week the event “HARAJUKU COLORFUL STREET” will run at Nasu Highland Park from April 27 to May 6.


    The event is produced by ASOBISYSTEM, a company based in Harajuku―Japan’s hub for fashion, culture and trends. Nasu Highland Park will be decorated in all things Harajuku.

The clock is a former symbol of Harajuku with many photos having been taken in front of it by locals and tourists. It will be set up at the event in addition to lots of other bright and vivid photo spots.


    Other activities will include workshops for parents and children, shopping booths with cute products and lots more. More information will be released on the park’s website in the coming weeks.


    Nasu Highland Park is the largest amusement park in Tochigi with around 40 attractions from thrilling roller coasters to a haunted castle as well as a fishing pond, BBQ area, zoo and more. Travel to the park this Golden Week with friends and family for a day of fun.

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU is gearing up for Easter with the announcement of their “MONSTER EASTER PARTY” set to run from March 9 to April 21.


    The cafe recently showcased part of its Easter menu which included the Little Chick Cake, Baby Rabbit Easter and more. It has now revealed even more more from its colourful menu.

    Heisei Furi Frog Burger: ¥2,500

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s main event for April is Easter, but this year it will also take into account the coming closure of Japan’s Heisei era before Emperor Akihito abdicates the Chrysanthemum Throne on April 30. As the final Easter of the  Heisei period at the cafe, it will serve up a Heisei inspired frog burger.


    The colourful frog looks like something out of the anime world with its long tongue, capturing everything that is the Japanese aesthetic of kimokawa, or ‘creepy-cute.’ Its appearance aside, the burger comes with a juicy patty, a generous serving of cheddar cheese and a slide of bacon. It’s topped with colourful tapioca for added accent, creating unique textures.

    Sakura Sakurice Hashed Beef: ¥2,300

    Kid’s Plate ~Sakura Sakurice~: ¥1,500

    Follow the sugar-coated path in the cafe to reach the tea party room decorated with melting ice cream, chocolate and macarons. This pastel coloured heaven is the ultimate dream fantasy and can be rented for parties. It costs around ¥4,000 per person and is for 20+ year olds only. A further ¥500 will be charged per person who wishes to order à la carte.

  • KAWAII MONSTER CAFE Collaborates with Anime Series Captain Tsubasa

    The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku has been holding an out-the-box collaborative campaign since last year under the name “Dream Collaboration Cafe.” As part of the campaign, the cafe it teaming up with ongoing anime series Captain Tsubasa from June 26 to July 13 as a way to promote Japan’s anime culture to both Japanese people and foreigners.


    They will serve up a Captain Tsubasa themed menu, hand out novelty items related to the series and put up life-sized cardboard cutouts.

    This year is a special year for soccer which comes once every four years. Harajuku is about to get in on the excitement with this special collaboration.

    The menu will include dishes inspired by the characters of Captain Tsubasa. Those who order from the menu will receive an original limited-edition novelty present.

  • Kawaii Monster Cafe Introduces Limited-Time Menu for Golden Week

    From April 28 to May 6, the Kawaii Monster Cafe in Harajuku is serving up a limited-time KAWAII Kids Week Menu to celebrate Children’s Day. Additionally, the cafe’s visual icons, the Monster Girls, are undergoing a costume renewal and will participate at the Lotte Okashi no Ie event at the venue where a game will take place with pro soccer team Kawasaki Frontale.


    The celebratory menu, titled MILK STAND, is themed on a “crazy baby room,” where while you’re sat in the cafe, there will be giant giant unicorns, rabbits and sheep drinking from large milk bottles overhead.



    There’ll be plenty of places and opportunities in the cafe to snap great photos!


    Also, on May 5 when the game between Kawasaki Frontale and FC Tokyo will take place at Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium, Kawasaki Frontale’s collaboration partners Lotte will hold a special collaborative event. A Lotte house of candy will be built at the event, and the Kawaii Monster Cafe’s Monster Girls will also make an appearance, so don’t miss out!

  • Kawaii Monster Cafe Harajuku to Hold Spring Lunch Fair & Sell Sweets in Collaboration With “Lotte”

    The Kawaii Monster Cafe, the famous restaurant inspired by the colourful and crazy streets of Harajuku, will hold a spring lunch fair starting from Saturday 10 March!


    The menu will be infected with a line-up of original creepy-cute goodies, including the Hanami de Gojaru Burger featuring a monster celebrating hanami, and the Colourful Vegetable Parfait Fondue which comes with poisonous-looking eggs laid by a monster in addition to blue bread to be eaten with a vibrant multicoloured cheese.

    Colourful Vegetable Parfait Fondue – ¥2,200 (tax excl.)



    The restaurant has also teamed up with confectionery maker “Lotte” to showcase a host of Easter desserts, something that even Japan has taken hold of recently.




    The collaborative desserts use popular snacks from Lotte such as “Koala’s March” and “Choco Pie” which are guaranteed to make you excited!
