Sony Interactive Entertainment held the first day of PlayStation® Matsuri 2018 in Osaka on October 28. The event was a huge success, bringing in over 2,200 gamers. This is the full report.

PlayStation® Matsuri 2018 is an ongoing series of events that lets players have a go at game titles that were exhibited at Tokyo Game Show 2018. Over 550 people were lined up way before the doors opened excited to try out some of the most topical and anticipated PlayStation® games of today.

The line-up of games to play was diverse. It included Days Gone, an action-adventure title set for release on April 26, 2019 that lit a fire amongst gamers during it screening at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III―which is dropping on January 25, 2019―also made an appearance, which has made headlines not only for coming as the long-awaited next main entry to the Kingdom Hearts series but for Hikaru Utada’s return to sing both the opening and ending themes. The upcoming role-playing game Inazuma Eleven Ares caught the attention of both kids and adults alike. Developed and published by Level-5 (Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom), the game will be released in Japan this winter and worldwide sometime in 2019.

There was also a chance for game fans to experience the latest in PlayStation®VR. Titles included Astro Bot: Rescue Mission which was released on October 4 as well as Everybody’s Golf VR hitting systems in 2019. People were enjoying the exhilarating swinging mechanics which made it feel like they were really playing golf.

PlayStation® Matsuri’s always-popular exclusive merchandise also saw a return this year. Lots of people dashed to get their hands on the range of clothes and miscellaneous items bearing designs of popular game titles and characters.

Pro gamers and general attendees of the events also clashed on stage. Former No.1 worldwide player UyuRiyu, official JeSU pro team Libalent Vertex and others joined the battle during rounds of Fortnite. For Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 event attendees were split into two teams for a heated 5v5 battle.

There was event a special photo corner with a Kingdom Hearts III background where you could take photos wielding a keyblade as well another photo corner with the bike from Days Gone. Players were also given a whole range of novelty items depending on what game they played.

The event will subsequently be held in Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Sendai and Sapporo.
