Starbucks Japan Osaka Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Meccha Matcha Latte & Frappuccino

06.November.2018 | FOOD

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Starbucks Japan setting up shop in Osaka, the coffee chain is holding a 10-day event titled Osaka 20th Thanks Week at 105 branches across Osaka Prefecture.

The celebration will see community activities taking place at each branch along with the serving of the new Osaka Meccha Matcha Latte and Osaka Meccha Matcha Frappuccino, two beverages crafted by the Osakan baristas of Starbucks for the Osakan locals.

The first Starbucks branch to open in Western Japan was at HEP FIVE in Umeda, Osaka on November 28, 1998. The keyword for these beverages is omoroi, a word in Kansai dialect that means ‘interesting’ and ‘amusing,’ and one that is intended to warm the hearts of those who drink these new beverages. Matcha is used as the base flavour for both of these drinks. It should also tickle the fancy of those who know that Osaka was the birthplace of Sen no Rikyū, one of the most influential figures on the Japanese way of tea.

The three matcha beverages―the hot or iced latte and frappuccino―uses 1.5 times more matcha powder than Starbucks’ regular matcha drinks. This explains the meccha in the title of the beverages which in Japanese means ‘very’ or in this case ‘a lot.’

Osaka Meccha Matcha Frappuccino®: Short ¥550/Tall ¥590/Grande ¥630/Venti® ¥670 (Pre-Tax)

The base of the Osaka Meccha Matcha Frappuccino® is refreshing vanilla ice cream on top of which sits colourful matcha, creating a contrast of white and green. Squirted on top is a fluffy serving of whipped cream drizzled in caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and extra matcha powder. Not only is this beverage made to look like Osaka Castle’s main keep, it’s also made to reflect the vim and vigour of the Osakan spirit that always wants to try “this and that.”

Osaka Meccha Matcha Latte (Hot/Iced): Short ¥440/Tall ¥480/Grande ¥520/Venti® ¥560 (Pre-Tax)

The iced version of the Osaka Meccha Matcha Latte is based on the popular matcha tea latte while the hot version is the perfect accompaniment to warm you up during the cold season.

If you’re in Osaka later this month then be sure to enjoy these meccha matcha drinks conceived from the minds of the baristas of Osaka!

  • Dine in Luxury With Truffle Toast at Patisserie SATSUKI in Hotel New Otani Osaka

    22.March.2020 | FOOD

If you’re looking to indulge yourself during your trip to Japan, and happen to be staying in Osaka, then Hotel New Otani Osaka’s pastry shop Patisserie SATSUKI has you covered with their new “Spring Truffle Toast” which is made with Bianchetto truffles. Only 5 servings are served per dayーand 10 on weekends and public holidays.

The arrival of Japan’s unprecedented bread boom

In recent years, Japan as a country has seen a boom in the baking and serving of bread. NOGAMI, a bread shop in Osaka, is credited with lighting the fire of the “shokupan” boom, a type of fluffy bread in Japan. This has resulted in many more shops opening selling shokupan. In spring 2017, Hotel New Otani Osaka decided it wanted the people of Kansai to buzz about high quality shokupan too, so it developed its French-inspired “Spring Truffle Toast.” Since releasing, the bread has continued to sell out, and if you don’t place an order for one you won’t be able to get your hands on it. Their tasty truffle toast has returned again this year.

    Premium toast with loaded truffle

Spring Truffle Toast With Bianchetto Truffles – ¥1,500 Per Loaf (Before Tax)

The ambrosial Spring Truffle Toast lacks nothing when it comes to taste, texture, and smell. The ingredients used to make ordinary bread like eggs, milk, and butter aren’t used for the shop’s Spring Truffle Toast. Instead, strong flour, yeast, water, and finely chopped spring truffles are used. To bring out even more flavour, truffle butter, pure olive oil, and shortening is used.

The same goes for the crustーeggs and milk aren’t used like in ordinary bread. And to prevent the bread from drying out, more time and labour is put into kneading the dough. A lava pot is used to bake the dough. By using far infrared to heat it, it makes the finished bread nice and chewy.

The shop’s head chef wanted to ensure that the bread’s fragrant smell is preserved when you take the lid off, and so the entire loaf is lathered in truffle oil, which also gives it a moist taste.

The bread can be toasted and enjoyed on its own, and you’re guaranteed great flavour and smell, but you can take it to the next level by topping it with a fried egg or scrambled egg to create an extraordinary and filling meal.

These truffles can only be harvested in spring

Truffles are a delicacy in kitchens around the world. The types used for the Spring Truffle Toast are Bianchetto. They are a very popular traditional truffle of Italy and can only be harvested from mid-March to April. As a result, they are extremely rare in Japan, making the toast that much more special.

100% Organic and High Quality Matcha Tea Leaves

Zeitakubihadado™ is very particular when it comes to its products being safe and secure to useーas well as the products being made in Japan. The cosmetic brand has delved deep into its research into what really is good makeup for women. Matcha, which is used in the company’s productsーincluding the new sheet masksーis packed full nutritional elements, including vitamins, minerals, theanine, and catechin, to name a few. It is also an antioxidant, a disinfectant, and is said to provide a relaxing effect. The matcha used in the Matcha de Bihado products is Uji matcha from Kyoto, a type which has garnered attention overseas too, all of which is 100% organic and harvested under strict management. The matcha powder, matcha extract, and hyaluronic acid help to leave the skin smooth and moisturised.

Bacterial Care With 5 Fermented Ingredients

Japanese beauty care has long since been deeply associated with “fermentation.” The Premium Sheet Masks harness the power of this fermentation method with a blend of five ingredients: rice ferment filtrate, soy milk ferment filtrate, collagen ferment filtrate, yogurt filtrate, and fruit juice ferment filtrate . Such fermented ingredients are said to promote the balance of indigenous bacterium in the skin, ensuring the skin stays healthy, smooth, and beautiful.

Opulent Essence & Super Thick Sheets

The essence has a thick texture, and the sheets themselves are extremely thick too which holds the essence together. Because the sheets do not easily drip or turn inside out, and because they fit firmly onto the fate, they are perfect for busy multitaskers out there.

Wash Away Face Pack & Premium Sheet Mask Combination

Those looking to really take care of the skin can get a combination of two Matcha de Bihada items: the Beautiful Face Pack, which keeps your skin clean, and the Premium Sheet Mask, which balances it. Using both will ensure your skin is left soft, moist, and restored. The cosmetic line aims to be one that people will want to continue to use, from early ageing in your 20s to later adulthood.

The sheet mask is easy to use: simply even out the entire sheet while it’s still in the pack with both your hands to that it is uniform all over. Remove from the pack, and turn up the outside from the eye part. Layer onto your face, making sure it’s correctly lined up with your eyes and mouth. Leave for 5 minutes and then remove. Rub in the essence left on your face. It’s recommended that you do this 1-2 times a week.

Try the new Matcha de Bihada sheet masks yourself and see the real benefits of Uji matcha.
