“Blue Grotto SHIBUYA” (Ao No Dokutsu) runs from Koendori street to Yoyogi Koen Keyaki Namiki street from November 30th(Fri) to December 31st(Mon).

Sound has been added to this year’s light show performance, which was very popular last year. The sound of ringing bells accompanies the light show and makes you feel winter has come. Everyone can enjoy this illumination show with both their eyes and ears.

「Ao no Dokutsu Blue Parks」opens the same as last year, offering Nisshin Foods「Ao no Dokutsu bolognaise, blue champagne and hot blue lemonade inspired by the blue grotto.

There is a BLUE CUBE from the commercial of 「Ao no Dokutsu」as a photo spot. The

exterior is very sophisticated, and the inside is a completely different style from the outside with surfaces mirrored in blue decoration, creating a fantastic illusion. During the Christmas season, the illumination is linked with the sound of piano.

Everyone can enjoy this collaboration of light and sound「Ao no Dokutsu SHIBUYA」with family and friends!

  • Enjoy Winter Illuminations at Gunma Flower Park

    Yousei-tachi no Gakuen (‘Academy of Faries’) is an illumination festival at Gunma Flower Park currently running until January 14, 2019. A large firework display is set for November 24 where 3,650 fireworks will be launched into the sky. Gunma Flower Park ranked in 10th place in Japan’s 6th National Illumination Awards. The park has been decorated with 1 million round lights for the event. Projection mapping is also being used and laser shows are taking place, all themed on fairies.  Attendees are invited to board the locomotive to ride around the illuminated park with a guide on board. The colour red flows through the greenhouse which has been potted with poinsettias, cyclamens and Christmas roses. There is also a large fir tree to complete the Christmas garden decked out with ornaments and gorgeous lights. The shops and restaurant are also serving up a range of items and food for the event, making it the perfect place to visit with that special someone to make some wintertime memories.
  • Pink Illuminations to Adorn Meguro River’s Famous Cherry Blossom Trees

    Meguro River is famous for its cherry trees which line stretch 4km along the waters and bring beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. This winter, 'Megurogawa Minna no Illumi 2018' will take place from November 9, 2018 to January 6, 2019. Translating to 'Meguro River: Illuminations for Everyone,' the event will see the path along the river decorated with lights which will reflect off the water's surface. The event was created out of locals' love for the town of Meguro. It's a time of mutual bonding and a reminder that winter is here. Last year, apartments in the neighbourhood and restaurants collected 5,500 litres of waste cooking oil which powered the generator for the lights. Waste cooking oils will be recycled again this year as biodiesel to power 100% of the illuminations. The Fuyu no Sakura® ('Winter Cherry Blossoms') flower viewing spot which was a huge hit last year will make an appearance again this year. People will be able to enjoy the 'winter cherry blossoms'ーthe pink illuminationsーfrom the comfort of one of the three garden igloos which all have different interiors. Sitting in one of these means you don't have to worry about wind, rain or cold weather.   Fuyu no Sakura Locaion: Gotanda Fureai Waterside Square, Shinagawa Running: November 22, 2018 - December 26, 2018   This year marks the 9th run of Fuyu no Sakura®. The 100% local energy illuminations were picked up by news media both in Japan and overseas last year.   • Japan’s Biggest Ferris Wheel Lights Up at Blue Grotto Illumination Event in Osaka

    Blue Grotto Osaka is an illumination event now taking place until September 30 at Redhorse Osaka Wheel, Japan's tallest Ferris wheel which is located at LaLaport EXPOCITY in Suita, Osaka.   Blue Grotto is an illumination event that first appeared in Nakameguro in winter 2014. It made a return in winter 2016 in Shibuya and again in December 2017 which almost 2.7 million people turned up to. The event also made its Hokkaido debut in Sapporo this year in February. It has established itself as one of Japan's staple illumination events enjoyed by people from both Japan and those coming from overseas. The first time to be held in Osaka, you can look forward to gazing at the entrancing blue lights as you are lifted up up 123 meters high in one of the carriages for a full 18-minute turn. While riding the wheel you can also choose from a selection of specially prepared pasta dishes. The pasta is made in collaboration with Nisshin Foods under their Blue Grotto brand and is named Blue Grotto Bolognese. You can also get your picture taken inside the BLUE CUBE photo spot. The interior is fitted with mirrors and magical blue lights that create an infinitely illuminated blue world.   If you head to the Redhorse Marumie Plaza on the second floor of the wheel entrance you can also check out some exclusive Blue Grotto merchandise.   If you're in Osaka this month then don't miss out this chance to enjoy gorgeous illuminations, an amazing view and some delicious pasta.

    Mika Pikazo is an illustrator and character designer. The artist has designed characters for many popular titles including Fire Emblem Engage, the latest in Nintendo's Fire Emblem series, as well as book covers and CD jackets.   Starting December 10, the artist will hold his second solo exhibition in three years at the Hz event space in Shibuya.   According to a press release, the exhibition is being held to show a number of creations Pikazo has made recently, and aims to show off new animation and past illustrations to merge his past and future selves. The creator hopes to challenge himself more going forward.   The first main visual, REVENGE, can be seen on the exhibition’s official website. A total of three visuals have been newly drawn for the event and will be released sequentially. In addition, a number of collaborative works with other creators will be on display, so art fans won’t want to miss out.Limited-edition merchandise featuring new illustrations will be on sale at the venue, and autograph sessions are planned to be held.   • Keyakizaka Lights, a Tokyo Winter Tradition, to be Held Again in 2022

    From November 11 until December 25, 2022, Roppongi Hills Christmas will cover Tokyo in glittering lights once again. The Keyakizaka Lights, one of Tokyo’s most popular winter attractions, will also take place in 2022, with the 400-meter-long Keyakizaka street covered in over 800,000 blue and white LED lights.   For the first time in three years, the Mohri Garden will be covered in lights as well. The annual Christmas market will invite guests to experience an authentic German Christmas, and Christmas cakes and gourmet food unique to Roppongi Hills will be for sale.    The Roppongi Hills Christmas event utilizes LED lights and has done so since the first event was held in 2003. Clean power will be used again this year, and the lights will be switched on from 5 PM until 11 PM each night.
