Lecture meetings to talk about Nihon Shoki (The Chronicle of Japan) in Nara prefecture. It will be the 1300-year anniversary of Japans oldest book of history.
In 2020, it will be 1300 years since the oldest Japanese history book called “Nihon Shoki (The Chronicle of Japan)”was completed. Nara prefecture is planning a project utilizing historical books which are proven to be important tools for historians include Kojiki, Nihon Shoki, and Manyoshu. They will sponsor serial lecture meetings themed Nihon Shoki from November 2016 to March 2017.
There are going to be lecture meetings in ten different areas in Nara prefecture starting from Sango-cho, Kashiba city, Kashihara city, Ouji town, Gose city, Kawai-cho, Asuka-mura, Nara city, Takatori-cho, to Tawaramoto-cho. Ten different lecturers such as college professors and comic writers are going to talk about their specialized field of Nihon Shoki. Some places are also holding excursion tours with volunteer guides where you can visit some places associated with these historical books.
This is a good chance to get to know about the Chronicle of Japan more deeply through these meetings in Nara prefecture where this book was accomplished.

Licaxxx Announces Tokyo Community Radio’s Second Event Series ‘communities’ to be Held in Tokyo and Osaka
Tokyo Community Radio (TCR), an online radio platform run by Licaxxx, has announced a new event titled communities. The event will be held at Daikanyama UNIT / Saloon in Tokyo on June 30 and at Osaka JOULE on July 1. The Mine City Tourism Association has announced a Christmas & Valentine’s Day event at Akiyoshido Cave, one of the largest limestone caves in Japan. The event will see the natural wonder illuminated by a number of colorful lights. The Christmas event will run from December 21 to 25, 2022, while the Valentine’s Day event will run from February 10 to 14, 2023. Akiyoshido Cave is one of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s most popular tourist attractions. The interior will be decorated with colorful lights and unique soundscapes, creating a once-in-a-lifetime setting for visitors. These illuminations and sounds were directed by world-renowned lighting designer Motoko Ishii, known for her work on Tokyo Tower and the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge.

Ukiyo-e paintings became popular during the Edo Period of Japanese history. For those weaning to see some of the most rad ukiyo-e paintings around, the new book Edo Punk! The Dynamic World of Ukiyo-e is now available at bookstores nationwide and online. Luckily, the book is also bilingual in English and Japanese! Kuniyoshi Utagawa, popular in Japan and abroad and known for his unique perspective, and Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, the inspiration for many modern manga series, are both featured in this tome. The many pieces featured combine elements of fantastical beauty and harsh realities, and fans can read commentary by Shoko Haruki. Haruki worked at the Hokkaido Museum before becoming a curator at the Edo-Tokyo Museum in 2017. She specializes in Japanese art history. The book is now available at bookstores nationwide and online.

The Sumida Hokusai Museum in Sumida-ku, Tokyo, will be holding the ‘Hokusai at Play with the 100 Poems’ exhibition from December 15, 2022 until February 26, 2023. The exhibition will focus on the Hyakunin Isshu, a famous collection of 100 poems integral to Japanese traditional culture.
