In 2016, fresh fruit juice shop Sour opened in Uraderacho, Kyoto. Now, they will soon open up shop down Cat Street in Harajuku.

Upon your order at Sour, fresh fruit will be squeezed for your drink in a juicer. After adding some sourness to your drink, not only will it taste divine but also look fun.

 

Like Sour in Kyoto, Sour Harajuku also uses fresh fruit and vinegar cordial. The interior was decorated by the Kyoto clothes shop and gallery VOU/Bou. CRT televisions, fluorescent lamps and other such decorations created by artists from Kyoto also decorate the interior. The colourful fruits of Sour contribute to the pop design atmosphere.

Sour offers seasonal menus that makes use of seasonal fruits as well as 20 varieties of vinegar cordial sour drinks.     This is perfect for those of you who are looking for something both refreshing and cute. The ice cream has a rejuvenating flavour and tastes perfect along with the bitter cone.

     

    A Refreshing Cold Meal: Beef Salad Udon Noodles

    This one is recommended for those of you who are hungry but want to eat something cool rather than a burger. If this is you, head to Plazma Ray’s Diner at Tomorrowland for their cold beef karubi udon (¥780).

     

    Thick cold noodles are served in a delicious soup along with pieces of beef, aubergine, okra and other summer vegetables. It even includes a pink fish paste cake cut into the shape of Mickey’s face. You are bound to finish this refreshing meal quickly on a hot summer’s day.

     

    Perfect for the Peckish : A Sweet Treat

    The same shop sells a Monsters, Inc-themed Mike sandwich biscuit that is filled with chocolate ganache (¥400). This is the perfect pick-me-up when you’re in search of a quick energy boost.

    Cool chocolate and marshmallows are squished between the two biscuits. Have you noticed the giant eye on the top of the biscuit? You just won’t be able to resist taking a photo. When you’re slightly peckish, make sure to give it a try!

     

    A Moderately Sweet Refreshing Drink

    This one is for the coffee-lovers. Pop by Café Orléans to pick up the D’s Delights Vanilla Smoothie & Coffee Jelly (¥500). Underneath the vanilla smoothie is a layer of coffee jelly. The top of the smoothie is filled with cocoa. We recommend you thoroughly mix the vanilla smoothie and coffee jelly before drinking it. The sweetness of the smoothie and the bitterness of the coffee jelly are a match made in heaven. When you’re tired of walking and need something sweet and refreshing, this drink is sure to power you up back to full battery.

     

    Fruity Shaved Ice With Actual Fruit Pieces

    Last but not least is the Shaved Ice (¥400) which is sold at many places including Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Good Time Cafe. There are two flavours to choose from; Japanese pear and Japanese orange. The sauce poured all over your ice contains actual pieces of fruit that will bring you right back to life. If you pay an extra ¥400, you can get your shaved ice served in a Toy Story-themed souvenir cup that you can take back home with you.

  • Summer Kicks Off at McDonald’s with Fruity Summer Drinks

    McDonald’s full-time barrister café feature McCafé by Barista serves original café coffee. As part of McDonald’s, they will launch summer drinks on Wednesday 12th June. From this day, the Peach Smoothie will be sold. There will also be a limited-time summer fruits smoothie which will be changed approximately every month. The first drink for round one is the Mango and Passionfruit Smoothie.

    The summer drinks season will continue until late September. This year will mark the fifth year running of McCafé by Barista’s popular menu. This summer, the Peach Smoothie will keep you refreshed with its peachy goodness. Peach purée and peach tea syrup is mixed to create the body of the smoothie. The drink is topped with a sauce filled with chunky pieces of peach.

    Mango & Passionfruit Smoothie: M: ¥490, L: ¥530,       Extra toppings: M: ¥550 , L: ¥590

    The limited-time drinks will be changed approximately each month. For the first round, the Mango and Passionfruit Smoothie is on the menu with its southern tropical vibes.  The refreshing mango sauce made from Alphonso mango purée is combined with a flavourful yet moderately sour passionfruit sauce. The sauces are then mixed with ice. The drink is topped with a sweet and fruity sauce which contains chunky fruit pieces. The sweet and sour balance is just right. In addition, if you pay an extra ¥60 on top of your purchase when you order either of these drinks, you can increase the toppings on your drink!

     

    A round two and three of fruit smoothie summer drinks series has been planned. Don’t forget to pick up a stamp card! Every time you purchase from this menu, you will receive a stamp. Collect four and you will be awarded with a free smoothie from the regular menu or a frappé (M size)

  • IKEA Harajuku Opens This June With Swedish Convenience Store

    IKEA Japan is set to open its first central Tokyo branch in Harajuku this week. Located inside WITH HARAJUKU, and just a 1-minute walk from Harajuku Station, the store will officially open its doors on June 8, 2020.

    Sales floors stocked with all your living needs

    The sales floors are split into four different themes to cater to customers’ living needs: “Sleep” and “Organise” are on the first floor, while “Relax” and “Cook” can be found up on the second floor. IKEA Harajuku also caters to single person households and their lifestyles too, so takes into consideration limited spacing with its items.

     

    Swedish Convenience Store

    To support life in the busy city and create a convenient shopping experience, IKEA Harajuku will be home to the world’s first “Swedish Conbini,” or Swedish convenience store. Eco-friendly items can be bought speedily, including eco bags, ISTAD freezer bags made from plants, plant ramen, and so on—all at an affordable price.

     

    IKEA Harajuku Exclusive Tunnbröd

    The convenience store stand will also serve takeout food like cinnamon rolls, plant-based soft serve ice cream, sundaes, and more. There’s even the “Sweden Cafe” up on the second floor where they’ll sell Tunnbröd, a traditional Swedish-style flatbread topped with various ingredients. This will be exclusive to IKEA Harajuku. The cafe brings together Harajuku’s culture of crepes and foods to eat while walking with Swedish culture.

    Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and to limit people in the shop, a ticket system will be place. Employees will also be using masks, and staff will use face shields when serving customers. The shop will also be practicing social distancing and asking people to wear masks.

    Saryo FUKUCHA is a cafe that was opened by FUKUJUEN in Kyoto Station in April 2019. A new batch of seasonal summertime menu items are set to arrive this June, including shaved ice drizzled in Uji tea and fruit sauce, a refreshing Uji matcha soda made with fresh fruit and jelly, and floats. These items will be served from June 1 to September 30 with a takeout option available.

    The “Matcha Berry” shaved ice is paired with rich Uji matcha ice cream and berry sauce. It’s also topped with a wafer cake shaped like a flower and filled with white bean paste, rice flour dumplings, and fruit.

    Uji Tea White Peach Soda / Uji Tea Lemon Soda: ¥650 Each (Before Tax)

    Full-bodied kabusecha tea from Uji made into a soda with fresh fruit pieces and jelly for a refreshing combination. Pick from super refreshing lemon or subtly sweet white peach.

    These floats are made using the best tea leaves selected by FUKUJUEN which are used to make a rich and frothy tea latte. Added to that is a dollop of soft serve ice cream topped with red bean paste and dried wheat gluten. Choose between authentic Uji matcha or aromatic houjicha.

    FUKUCHAs specially-made anmitsu, or syrup-covered anko bean jam, is the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer’s day. It’s mixed with Uji tea honey and topped with various toppings like milk agar-agar, black soybeans, rice flour dumplings, white peach, raspberry, and mizu manju.

    BOTANIST Tokyo, the flagship shop of BOTANIST in Omotesando, has announced a new collection of limited-edition drinks will be served on the second floor BOTANIST Cafe from July 12, 2020. BOTANIST Tokyo is currently closed but it scheduled to reopen on June 1.

    Enjoy the sweetness of banana and sugar beet together with the smoothness texture of the avocado in this smoothie which has apple and mint mixed into it for that refreshing summertime kick.

     

    The cafe’s regular menu has also been revised to add three new desserts.

    McDonald’s Japan is teaming up with confectionery company Morinaga & Company to release the “McShake® Morinaga Ramune” at all McDonald’s branches in Japan. This is the first time McDonald’s Japan has collaborated with the product.

     

    Morinaga Ramune is a candy soda, and the perfect match to McDonald’s sweet and creamy to cool down during spring and early summer.

    The mixed beverage maintains the same refreshing taste as the original McShake® while drawing out the full flavour of the Ramune. It’s available in a small size only while supplies last and is the same light blue colour as Morinaga Ramune. It’s also served in an original cup.
