Japan’s First Rurouni Kenshin Escape Game Slices its Way Into Museum Meiji-Mura in Aichi

A new escape game themed on Rurouni Kenshin has been created by SCRAP and is to slash its way into Museum Meiji-Mura on September 11. The museum has stood for over 60 years, focusing on the Meiji period of Japan.

 

Rorouni Kenshi is a hit manga series loved the world over with over 70 million copies sold. The latest arc of the manga, Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc, is serialised in Jump Comics SQ and is being published in English by Viz Media.

In the first ever escape game based on the series, you will become a practioner of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū and join Kenshin in facing enemies. To accomplish your objective, you will need to speak to various people in the game, as well as learn sword techniques from a certain character in the series. It taking place in the Museum Meiji-Mura means you will be fully immersed in the story―like you have slipped back in time―as the series itself is set during the Meiji period.

  • Pop Team Epic Pop-Up Shop Makes its Way to Shinjuku This Month

    The Pop Team Epic pop-up shop is set to take to make a return this month. It will open on the sixth floor of Shinjuku Marui Annex and run from August 23 to September 16.   Themed on the the popular manga and anime series, the pop-up shop first appeared in December 2016 and has since popped up many times around Japan over the years. Having been held in various places around Tokyo as well as Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Osaka, it is finally making its way to Shinjuku for the first time.   The shop's main visual was drawn by series creator Bkub Okawa. Its design will feature on many exclusive pieces of merchandise at the shop. Fans of the series have lots to look forward to at the shop, with plenty of cute and hilarious decorations of Popuko and Pipimi and plenty of photo opportunities. Those who spend over ¥3,000 (tax included) at the shop will even receive an original sticker.   • Miffy Sakura Kitchen Opens Second Shop with Bakery in Yufuin

    Miffy Sakura Kitchen, Arashiyama, Kyoto will open a forest-themed shop with an adjoined bakery in Yufuin, Oita on October 31, 2019.As you enter the new shop, you will be immersed in its happy, warm and comforting atmosphere. Miffy Sakura Kitchen is popular for its Japanese-style kitchenware and miscellaneous goods which cannot be found anywhere else in Japan. The shop will also have an adjoining bakery area called Miffy Mori no Bakery, where customers order their favourite treats to take out. This includes the popular anpan bun, which is a bun containing sweet red bean paste. There will also be character-themed baked goods, soft serve ice cream, drinks and much more. You can order your delicious baked goods to go so you can explore the beautiful area of Yufuin, or you can choose to eat inside the bakery’s beautiful and photogenic eating area.    Miffy’s good pal Boris will also be making an appearance at the brand new shop. His design will decorate some of the Miffy Sakura Kitchen-limited kitchenware and even some of the baked goods in the bakery.   
  • Haikyu!! Stamp Sets & Postcards Releasing at Japan Post Service

    To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the popular TV anime series Haikyu!!, Japan Post Service will begin taking online orders for a themed stamp set on August 19. The stamp designs feature the familiar faces of members of Karasuno High from the series. Japan Post Service will also sell 14 different postcards with key visuals from across all seasons of the anime series, celebrating its 5-year reign.     Escape rooms invite family and friends to solve exciting puzzles and riddles within a time limit, and have become massively popular around the world. Since the first one opened in 2007, over 8 million people in Japan have participated in one of these exciting events held everywhere from apartment buildings to amusement parks.   The Escape from Godzilla event will be held throughout the Atami Bay Resort Korakuen, and will ask players to solve mysteries throughout the hotel.     SCRAP, a company known for its unique escape games, have recently started selling its ‘Nazokan’ (Mystery Can) product at stores nationwide starting December 22, 2021. These items sold out instantly upon initial release, and have been highly praised by puzzle-lovers, including popular actress and model Nanase Nishino!   Two kinds of ‘Nazokan’ are on sale: The ‘Golden Angel Can’ and the ‘Silver Devil Can.’ Each large can contains a number of difficult puzzles and riddles. Following its initial launch in October 2021, the first production run sold out in only six days.   • 13th Kyoto Historica International Film Festival to Screen All 5 Rurouni Kenshin Films

    The 13th Kyoto Historica International Film Festival has announced its screening lineup and will be held both in-person and online. In addition to all five live-action Rurouni Kenshin films being screened, five carefully-selected historical films from around the world have been chosen from over 200 applicants. These will be screened at the Japanese event and can only be seen during the festival.    Italian film Inferno, produced in 1911 and shown at Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna in 2021, will make its Japanese premiere along with a piano accompaniment. Oshuraga: Land of Souls will also be screened in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the Kyoto-Quebec Friendship and Collaboration Agreement.    41 films will also be available to stream on the MIRAIL streaming service, with tickets going on sale on January 22, 2022.

    Rurouni Kenshin is one of the most popular anime and manga series around the world, hitting the scene in Japan back in 1994. Original manga author Nobuhiro Watsuki spent most of his childhood in Nagaoka, Niigata prefecture, an area known throughout the country for its delicious rice. Harasho, a liquor store in Nagaoka, has announced a new collection of Rurouni Kenshin-themed sake to celebrate the series.    The Rurouni Kenshin manga series was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 until 1999. The sequel, Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc, is currently ongoing in Jump Square. The series has been a smash hit, selling over 72 million copies and inspiring both animated and live-action film adaptations and an anime series.    The sake will be produced at three distilleries in Nagaoka city, and each of the three will feature unique characteristics. Each label features imagery from the manga series and would make the perfect gift for fans (as long as they are of age!)

    The escape game, which is called “Escape From the Black Market Empire,” features an original voiced story (recorded by the original voice actors) that has players using their smartphones to communicate with the six Matsuno siblings.
