SAKURA FES NIHONBASHI/OFF TO MEET is set to take place in the Nihonbashi, Yaesu and Kyobashi areas of Tokyo from March 15 to April 5 this year.
This marks the 7th run of the event. Naoki Ono, the chief editor of Kohkoku magazine, was invited on board as creative director for this year’s event, which promises plenty of cherry blossom-themed activities and content which you won’t experience anywhere else.
Running alongside the festival will be the Kengai・NIHONBASHI event which will take place on March 28 and 29. This two-day event encourages people to turn off their smartphones and spend some quality time in the real world away from the digital world. There will be a food market run by local famous restaurants of Nihonbashi, which is known for its incredible food, who are preparing some special bites to eat. There will also be live performances, a book market, and much more.

Bunjee Jump From the Top of Kyoto Tower With Their New VR Experience

Have you ever wondered what the thrill of bungee jumping would be like, but are too afraid of heights to even consider putting it on your bucket list? Have no fear, because Kyoto Tower is bringing a new VR bungee jumping experience to the top of the building which will be available to experience from February 1 for a limited time.
This VR experience was first brought to the tower in the fall of 2018, and this year it is making its grand return. After the event originally ended, there was huge demand for it to be held again.
Those brave enough to have a go at this VR bungee jump (or bungy, depending where you are from), will go above and beyond the 100 meter observation deck to the highest accessible point of Kyoto Towerーup 120.9 metersーwhich is normally closed off to the public, to the special VR deck which has been prepared.
The experience will offer you not only the thrill of jumping from Kyoto’s tallest structure, but the chance to gaze upon a panoramic view of the beautiful city too.

Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll & Pompompurin Japanese Wagashi Confections Releasing at Lawson Convenience Stores.

Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin are the latest to be picked up by character-inspired Japanese confectionery series Tabemas. These wagashi sweets will go on sale at Lawson convenience stores across Japan (excluding Lawson Store 100 branches) on January 21, 2020.
The character line-up is based on the top three winners of the 2019 Sanrio Character Awards which we covered last summer. Hello Kitty came first place at the awards, and so she has gotten a special limited edition design for the sweets series. Cinnamoroll was second on the award list, and this is his first time joining Tabemas. Third place was Pompompurin who appears once again with Tabemas due to his popularity.
The ‘Tabemas’ brand name is an abbreviation of the Japanese words taberareru masukotto, meaning ‘mascots that you can eat.’ It is a Japanese confectionery series that combines well-known characters and Japanese sweets made from ingredients like red bean paste, sugar and rice flour. The sweets are also made with a dough called “nerikiri” which is used in making traditional Japanese wagashi sweets.
In line with the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac, Hello Kitty is donning a kawaii rat outfit. Cinnamoroll’s charm point is his big ears and pink cheeks.
Each confection is filled with a different flavour bean paste: Hello Kitty is cheese, Cinamoroll is milk, and Pompompurin is of course Japanese custard pudding, or ‘purin,’ flavoured. They maintain that delicate flavour of traditional Japanese wagashi while having cute contemporary designs. You’ll be happy to know that all of the colouring is natural tooーno synthetic colours were added.

Check Out Tokyo Disneyland’s Adorable ‘It’s Very Minnie!’ Show
Tokyo Disneyland has launched its Minnie-tastic programme Very Very Minnie on January 10 and it will run until March 19, 2020. The programme is packed with exciting limited period events including themed decorations, merchandise and special foods and drinks. Today we’ll be focussing on the It’s Very Minnie! show.
Presented at Showbase, It’s Very Minnie! is a musical revue show featuring Minnie Mouse and her Disney friends. The show is a mixture of Latin music, romance and even club scenes. As Minnie and friends dance rhythmically to the music, their colourful costumes colour the stage in a variety of styles. Each show lasts approximately 25 minutes.
Minnie dances in a classic red and white polka dot outfit. Her performance to Minnie Oh Minnie will have you singing along in no time.
As the lively music kicked in, Donald, Chip and Dale took to the stage in their Latin costumes.
As the music was constantly switching, the characters and dancers changed costumes at lightning speed.
Finally, Mickey and Minnie danced together. Just watching the couple dance will warm your heart.
Seeing Minnie in a beautiful pink dress, the crowd couldn’t help but scream “so cute!”
The show was a mix of the park’s many nostalgic tunes and Minnie in her many adorable outfits. From the very moment the intro played and Minnie’s figure appeared, fans instantly went wild. Watching fans chant their love for Minnie was very touching to see.
The timing of the dancers and characters was perfect. They even got down from the stage to interact with the audience, who were singing and clapping along to the music with excitement.
Some songs and costumes in the show were even having their debut. The stage was buzzing with so much excitement that it was impossible to look away.
Just watching Minnie’s variety of expressions will make you fall in love with her even more. You will want to go see her again and again. This is one of the best shows in history that Disneyland has ever put on.
Whether you’re a Minnie fan or not, anybody is bound to enjoy this fun-filled show.

Kenshi Yonezu-Produced Foorin team E ‘Paprika’ Single’s CD Bonuses Revealed

Aiming to cheer everybody on in the runup to 2020 and beyond, Kenshi Yonezu formed two music groups consisting of young children called Foorin and Foorin team E to perform the Japanese and English versions of his song Paprika respectively as part of an ongoing music project.
Foorin team E’s version of the song is set to hit shelves on January 22, and in the run up to its release, the CD covers as well as the bonus item included with the CDs have been unveiled.
First Press Edition
The CDs are being released in First Press Edition and Regular Edition copies. First Press copies are packaged in a 7-inch cardboard jacket and include a poster-size card with the lyrics on them as well as a DVD featuring the song’s music video. The CD covers as well as Kenshi Yonezu’s music video for Paprika were drawn by Japanese artist Ryu Kato.
Additionally, select participating stores will couple their CDs with the above-pictured magnet.
All royalties made from both Foorin and Foorin team E’s versions of the songーboth the physical and digital releasesーwill be donated to the Japan Sports Promotion Centre which helps train next generation athletes.
Foorin’s Paprika music video has broken 160 million views on YouTube and won the 61st Kagayaku! Japan Record Award. The English version of the music video was released in December last year and has amassed almost 3 million views on YouTube.

Tokyo-bred singer and rapper DAOKO just dropped the music video for her new song Otogi no Machi which was released as a digital single just yesterday (January 15). Check it out below.

In the video, DAOKO plays the role of an ‘OL’—a Japanese abbreviation for an office ladyーworking somewhere in the city. Tired from work, she drags her tired body through the night-wrapped downtown streets. Awaiting her at the club she arrives at is blaring music and bright lights. When she steps back outside, the worldーwhich before was black and white for herーnow has colour to it, expressing the fact that music can bring colour to our ordinary lives. The scenes and outfit were all conceived by DAOKO herself, making this DAOKO’s first entirely self-produced video.
The music video also features many pieces of work from illustrator Hermippe, who worked on the CD cover for the digital single as well as the key visual for DAOKO’s “2020 Otogi no Mitoshi tour.”
The song’s lyrics are fantasy-like as they mix together fiction and non-fiction, woven together effortlessly by DAOKO’s lyrical rap flow, and calling back to the music of her early days while evolving her sound at the same time. Tokyo DisneySea’s Pixar Playtime Event Now in Full Swing and Loved by Pixar Movie Fans
You say there’s a snake in your boot? That’s because Tokyo DisneySea’s long-awaited Pixar Playtime is finally here, partner! Running from January 10 to March 19, this special event is a celebrating of all-things Pixar, with appearances from fans’ favourite films from Toy Story to Finding Nemo and beyond.
Today, we’re taking a small peek into what Pixar fanatics can look forward to. From shows to food and merchandise, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
Pixar Playtime is an annual event that plunges guests into the wonderful worlds of Pixar’s filmography, giving them a chance to meet and celebrate with some of the most iconic characters in animation history. For Pixar Playtime 2020, Tokyo DisneySea has been decorated like a colourful board game with squares which guests can move along and challenge themselves to the many different objectives written on them. There are many programmes prepared for this year, including the one below.
The “Pixar Playtime Pals” Show
Taking place at Piazza Topolino in Mediterranean Harbor, the Pixar Playtime Pals show invites guests into playing various fun games inspired by the Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo films.
As the games progress, more and more characters begin to appear to raise levels of excitement including those from Ratatouille, Up, Brave, and Inside Out.
It’s an exciting time for Pixar fans to interact with lots of their favourite characters.
Tokyo DisneySea is littered with decorations referencing Pixar’s films for the event including the iconic Pixar Ball.
Other things guests will spot is the colourful roulette featuring numerous characters, a game booth based on the Toy Story film series, a plethora of photo spots including the one above of Jack-Jack from The Incrediblesーthe list goes on. There’s plenty to be enjoyed at every turn, so be sure to take it all in.

Gundam vs. Hello Kitty Collaboration Releases Final Promotional Video
The Gundam vs. Hello Kitty project began in April 2019, with Gundam recently being announced as the winner between the two. The two franchises have now come together to announce a new project for 2020 entitled “Gundam x Hello Kitty Love & Peace.”
The project sees Hello Kitty and Gundam looking past their differences to instead pray for a world with peace and no war. It will go on to collaborate with various shops and creators.
The third and final promotional video for the project entitled “Love & Peace” was released on YouTube, following on from the first two episodes which collectively have over 2 million views. Check it out below.
Fans can expect a whole new batch of merchandise to come with the following new cute designs which combine the worlds of Gundam and Hello Kitty.

Just like Mario does in his quest to save Princess Peach from Bowser, guests can collect coins by hitting Question Blocks with their Power Up Bands. The Power Up Band has numerous features, including the ability to obtain collectable items like Mario character stamps by completing various conditions listed on the app.
Battle bosses with friends
Additionally, guests can collect ‘Keys’ in a new attraction called ‘Key Challenges’ with which they can unlock various gameplay opportunities including ‘Boss Battles.’ They will be able to battle bosses together with their friends.

To promote the opening of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, USJ dropped a music video entitled WE ARE BORN TO PLAY on their official YouTube channel on Tuesday in collaboration with Swedish electronic DJ duo Galantis and English singer-songwriter Charli XCX. The music video merges the real world with the world of Mario, with Charli hanging out with Toad on top of Peach’s castle and people stomping on digital Goombas. The song features original music mixed together iconic leitmotifs from the Mario games.
We look forward when SUPER NINTENDO WORLD finally opens and will most definitely cover it once it does.
