Japanese Cafe Collaborates With Swedish Ceramicist Lisa Larson

Sunday Branch Marronnier Gate Ginza is a cafe in Ginza that has collaborated with a number of different characters and artists, including Shawn the Sheep since 2017, The Very Hungry Catterpillar in 2018, and Leo Lionni since 2019.

 

The cafe is now collaborating with Swedish ceramicist and designer Lisa Larson to open LISA LARSON Fika TOKYO. The menu will feature dishes inspired by her cute works.

Mikey Plate

​Inspired by Larson’s popular cat character Mikey, this healthy dish includes almond milk rice with a side of greens.

The adorable round Lion looks like he has been taken right out of Larson’s works and put onto a plate.

Baby Mikey Gateau Chocolate

These baby Mikey chocolates take on a ceramic appearance like Larson’s work and are filled with sesame and cocoa powder.

    The new limited-time character cafe POWDER ART CAFE HARAJUKU is set to open in Harajuku, Tokyo from July 15, 2020 to mid-January 2021.

  • Hamtaro Cafe 2020 to Open in Tokyo, Saitama, and Osaka

    LEGS COMPANY has announced that it will open three cafes based on the popular Japanese character Hamtaro in Tokyo and Saitama on July 30 and Osaka on July 31.

     

    Hamtaro is a manga and storybook series created and illustrated by Ritsuko Kawai. The series began serialisation in 1997 and an anime adaptation first broadcast back in 2000. More than 20 years later, Hamtaro continues to enjoy much popularity in Japan.

    Hamtaro Cafe 2020 will be themed around sunflowers and the sea, and will serve up a fun experience perfect for the hot summer. The Ham-Hams have come out of their Clubhouse to pay a visit to the seaside and enjoy the sun. There will be sunflower and ocean themed food, drinks, and desserts for everyone to munch on.

  • Summer 2020 Parfait Fair Begins at Shiseido Parlour in Tokyo

    Shiseido Parlour began its annual “Midsummer Parfait Fair” at its Ginza, Tokyo branch on Wednesday which will run until August 30 and be divided into two different slots serving different parfaits. The cafe is serving up a selection of parfaits made from ice cream and local seasonal fruits under the trust that the chefs and farmers have built over the years.

    2020 Midsummer Parfait Fair: Slot ① July 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020


    Furano, Hokkaido – Furano Melon Parfait: ¥2,100 (Tax Included)

    This parfait is made using Furamon melon which is grown in Hokkaido’s city of Furano between the mountains where there is a major temperature difference. The melon is ripened after being harvested and so make it nice and soft, giving a sweet and juicy flavour and fragrance.

    Sakai Nouen, Wakayama – Arakawa Peach Parfait: ¥2,300 (Tax Included)

    The “Arakawa” peach is a brand of peach grown in Wakayama Precture. The peaches are grown until their nearly completely ripe while in the tree, giving them a soft texture. Inside the sweet flavour is a sour kick, both of which explode with the juiciness of the peach in the parfait.

    Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa – Apple Mango Parfait: ¥2,700 (Tax Included)

    The “apple mango” is a type of mango grown in the hot climate of Okinawa. The mango has a super soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture and a sour tinge which elevates its rich sweetness.

    Hatake Kobo, Nagano Prefecture – Koihime Strawberry Parfait: ¥2,000 (Tax Included)

    The “koihime” is a type of summer strawberry grown in-house by Shiseido Parlour. The strawberries get plenty of water, air, and sunlight so they grow into red jewels packed full of sweetness.

    Royal Host, a family restaurant in Akihabara, is collaborating with the popular TV anime series Kaguya-sama: Love Is War to serve two different menu line-ups. The first is currently running right now until July 5, which we covered recently. This time we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming second menu which will be served from July 6.

    Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is a romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. A 12-episode anime adaptation premiered in January. The series’s collaboration with Royal Host last year was such a success that the restaurant chain decided to bring it back again.

  • Hello Kitty Takes Over Osaka’s Maid Cafe ‘@home cafe’

    The Osaka branch of @home cafe—a chain of maid cafes that originated in Akihabara—is collaborating with Sanrio to serve up a Hello Kitty experience from July 1 for a limited time, with special decorations, food, and exclusive merchandise.

     

    @home cafe Akihaabra collaborates with Sanrio characters every year. In 2018, it joined hands with My Melody and Cinnamoroll, and in 2019 with Pompompurin. In January this year, it teamed up with Hello Kitty, who is now heading to the Osaka cafe.

    The cafe will be decorated with cute pictures of Hello Kitty and her twin sister Mimmy, as well as pink and yellow gingham designs for each character.

    The maids at @home cafe Osaka will also wear special Hello Kitty and Mimmy maid outfits for the duration of the collaboration.

  • New UNIQLO TOKYO to Open in Ginza as Biggest Flagship Store

    UNIQLO is set to open its new global flagship store named UNIQLO TOKYO at MARRONNIER GATE GINZA 2 on June 19, 2020.

     

    The new branch comes as the third to open this year, following UNIQLO PARK Yokohama Bayside in April and UNIQLO Harajuku last week on June 5.

    UNIQLO TOKYO will be the embodiment of UNIQLO’s “LifeWear,” clothing that the company has created to “improve everyone’s life.” The company prides itself on weaving high-quality and high-function clothing for all people at an affordable price. Their products a multifarious, and the brand continues to evolve. To bring LifeWear to life at UNIQLO TOKYO, the brand has brought creative art director Kashiwa Sato on board, as well as award-winning Swiss architecture firm Herzog and de Meuron.

     

    The central part of the 1st floor is called LifeWear Square, an area that fully captures UNIQLO’s “LifeWear” concept for customers. The 4th floor is also home to a UT archive space which showcases all the different t-shirts that have been released as part of the UT graphic T-shirt series.

     

    The rooftop and outside of the building will don digital signs made by interactive designer and engineer Yugo Nakamura.

  • Harajuku’s Rilakkuma Fruits Cafe Entertains Customers With Projection Mapping

    “HARAJUKU AR BOX -table projection mapping cafe-,” a cafe in Harajuku whose name speaks for itself, has announced its second collaboration with Rilakkuma to bring the new Rilakkuma Fruits Cafe which will open for a limited time from April 3, 2020 to June 28, 2020.

     

    The cafe’s first collaboration with Rilakkuma was in December last year. It was called “Korilakkuma Cafe: another me in the mirror” and earned itself many fans for its cute food and decor, but especially for its interactive tables which used projection mapping technology to have Rilakkuma and friends running around people’s tables.
