  • Tottori Prefecture Adds New Sandshrew and Sandslash Pokémon Manhole Covers

    03.October.2020 | ANIME&GAME / SPOT

Five more locations across Tottori in Japan are set to place new Sandshrew and Sandslash manhole covers around the prefecture, including the original and Alola designs. The new covers arrive in addition to the one placed back in March. They are part of Japan’s ongoing Poké Lid project to place Pokémon manholes around the country.

To date, there are currently Poké Lids in Tottori, but the new designs will bring it up to 19.

Sandshrew and Alola Sandshrew were chosen as official ambassadors of Tottori in December 2018 to help promote the wonders of the prefecture. Both of them attend tourist sites around Tottori as well as perform at events. Sandshrew is of course a Pokémon that likes the sand, which is perfect as Tottori is home to the largest sand dune in Japan.

All of the Poké Lids placed in Japan feature completely original Pokémon designs making each individual one the only one in the world. The Pokémon Company is also working to make each one of them PokéStops for Pokémon GO.

    Sandshrew & Sandslash Stamp Rally

Tottori has also announced a special stamp rally in collaboration with Tori Pass for people to enjoy sightseeing across the prefecture. Participants will take their stamp sheet to facilities nearby each Poké Lid to get a stamp.

Those who collect all 19 stamps can enter for a chance to win some Sandshrew merchandise. 100 lucky people will be chosen randomly. The stamp sheets also have information on sightseeing spots near each Poké Lid as well as coupons and more.

  • Pokémon Shirts Releases Short Documentary On YouTube

    01.October.2020 | ANIME&GAME / FASHION

Pokémon Shirts was launched back in February 2019 by American custom shirt brand Original Stitch—which offers over one billion design customisations—and the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon Shirts ships worldwide including Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

A special video was released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel which showcases the laborious efforts takes to make Pokémon Shirts, from the manufacturing, design, and print process until they are in the hands of the customers.

    Pokémon Shirts

Pokémon Shirts launched a campaign on September 25 where the first 2,000 customers to buy a shirt from their website will receive a free acrylic key ring. The key rings feature designs taken from the shirt series.

Since the shirts are made-to-order, the company does their best to not waste any materials, but some extra is going to be inevitably leftover. Rather than disposing of this excess fabric, upcycling brand NEWSED took it to create the key rings.

    NEWSED

More of these key rings are in the works, and designs featuring the original 151 Pokémon will be released at sometime in the future. Stay up to date via their official website.

BUMP OF CHICKEN’s new song Acacia was used for a special new Pokémon music video entitled GOTCHA! which was posted onto the official Pokémon YouTube page along with captioned lyrics in 9 languages.

“I can’t speak English,” explains director Rie Matsumoto. “For me to have a full conversation in English, my native friend always goes to a lot of trouble for me. It’s a situation I’m sorry for. I first met them on a flight, and began speaking to them, but because of the issue I just mentioned, it makes me feel awkward thinking back to it. But they smiled when they saw the Pikachu I had drawn on my phone. Both Pokémon and that trip came together to give me fond memories.”

She continues: “I surmise that the Pokémon series has a long journey to go yet, so I hope this music video serves as a trip down memory lane for people—a stopover of past seasons in the series. I have overwhelming gratitude for the four members of BUMP OF CHICKEN who always put out wonderful music. I hope seeing the acacia flower is now something people will enjoy that they may not have thought to before. Thank you all.”
