Wagakki Band captivate audience of 15,000 at New Year’s concert and release music video from new album

Wagakki Band just completed their two-day concert “Wagakki Band Dai Shin’nen Kai 2017 Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium Yuki no Utage・Sakura no Utage” at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on February 17th and 18th. Their annual custom of holding a New Year’s party concert grows bigger and better every year. This year, they played to a whopping crowd of 7,500 people on both days, totaling 15,000 across the tour.



The extraordinary wagakki-rock fusion made their name known last year and embarked on their first ever US tour last year and performed at rock festivals in Japan. Now, after 8 months since a solo tour in Japan from the band, they finally showcase how much they have grown by taking their performance to the next level. As the curtains raised on the first night, entitled “Yuki no Utage,” the band opened with “Hanabi,” captivating the audience who stood wielding their pen lights which lit up a dazzling sea of purple. The band ran around both sides of the stage and up to the arena seats – a performance knowing no boundaries and one which left no part of the venue untouched. And the line-up of 30 dancers lit up the stage even more with their energetic movements.



The first night of the tour, “Yuki no Utage,” saw the band perform a lot of their famous Vocaloid covers from their debut album “Vocalo Zanmai,” while the second night, “Sakura no Utage,” had a set list comprised of many songs from their second album, “Yasou Emaki”. The band dressed in beautiful winter inspired clothing for Yuki no Utage, decorated in whites, purples and blacks. For Sakura no Utage, we saw the members wrapped in springtime themed clothing decorated with flowers. During the second night they opened with the calm and serene “Nadeshiko Sakura” before hitting the crowd with the upbeat “Sen-ikusa-” and “Hangeki no Yaiba.” Just like the first night, the show went down a storm with the crowd. They diffused anticipation for their upcoming album by performing a number of songs from it, including “Mi・ra・i” and “Kishi Kaisei.” But the song that received the biggest reaction was “Oki no Yuuta” from the new release. It’s a song that has fans shouting “I want to sing this at my graduation ceremony!” – a feeling that resonated throughout the crowd of 15,000 guys and girls.


At the end of the performance, a short digest movie was played showcasing a breakdown of the new album “-shikisai-” and every song had people screaming with excitement. Vocalist of the band Yuko Suzuhana said of the upcoming release that “The album is like a concert set list.” It’s sure looking like Wagakki Band are set to conquer the music scene once again this year and grow even more popular around the globe.

    The Japanese professional tennis player is a three-time Grand Slam singles champion and known the world over as the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles.   • aiko to Release New Untitled Album in March

    aiko will release her 14th album on March 3, 2021. The new record, which is currently untitled, comes as the singer’s first in 2 years and 9 months after the release of her last album, Shimetta Natsu no Hajimaru. It will contain 13 tracks including her two singles Aozora and Honey Memory which dropped last year.


    First Press Limited-Edition copies come in DVD and Blu-ray variants featuring the full footage of aiko’s first online live performance Love Like Rock vol.9 ~Betsuwaku-chan~. The concert, which was streamed live on her YouTube channel, was held in response to the postponement of the final two shows of her tour Love Like Rock vol.9 which began in autumn 2020. 130,000 fans turned up to the stream and aiko’s name became the number on trending search term on Twitter in Japan. The show was archived for one week and was seen 1.7 million times.


    Select CD stores in Japan will couple the album with an original notebook and stickers when fans pre-order or buy the record. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The book and sticker designs will be revealed on aiko’s official website in the weeks following up to the album’s release.

    It has become a tradition that aiko releases a New Year’s commercial for Japanese television, and this year was no exception, with a new one hitting the air on January 1, 2021. The full version can be seen on her official YouTube channel and features snippets from new songs from the upcoming untitled album.

  • BAND-MAID Release ‘Manners’ Music Video From New Album ‘Unseen World’

    Japanese maid hard rock band BAND-MAID are set to release physical editions of their 4th album Unseen World on January 20, 2021. But if you can’t wait one more week, then don’t worry, as the album is now available on music streaming and downloading sites, including Spotify, as of January 13.


    In line with the release, the five-member maid line-up dropped a new music video for the song Manners.

    BAND-MAID has announced that they will release new content every week for four weeks from January 13 starting with the music video. The video comes as the first from the new album.

    To promote the release of Unseen World, a special panel exhibition will take place at participating Tower Records and HMV stores in Japan from January 20.


    BAND-MAID also announced on Wednesday (January 13) the unfortunate cancellation of their concert at the Nippon Budokan which was scheduled for February 11, 2021. It will instead be replaced by a no-audience live stream at a different venue on the same day.

    We are truly sorry that we will not be able to meet you all at the Nippon Budokan.

    It is truly heartbreaking to see how the pandemic situation worsens day by day, threatening
    people’s health, lives, and normal daily lives. We have decided to cancel this event because
    we do not want our activities to put people in danger.


    We understand that this decision might bring up mixed reactions, but we sincerely hope for your understanding.


    When we announced Nippon Budokan exactly one year ago, we were concerned about taking on such a huge challenge.
    However, throughout the past year, we have had some restrictions on our activities due to the pandemic,
    but through your generous support, we worked hard and believed that we would make the Budokan okyu-ji happen.


    When we announced that we would hold our okyu-ji at the Nippon Budokan, the cheers and applause that
    rang out like a thunderclap were incredible, and we still strongly remember the joy that all the members felt.


    We want to perform at the Nippon Budokan again someday in the best possible condition.


    We have a goal to conquer the world. Although this was an important Nippon Budokan okyu-ji,
    the journey towards achieving our dream has only just begun.


    Even though we had to cancel many shows due to COVID-19, we found out through the online okyu-ji that
    more people worldwide are waiting for us and watching us than we could have ever imagined.


    Although the future is still unclear, we will continue to bring everyone joy through our music, in our own BAND-MAID way.

    We will continue to move forward toward our dreams unceasingly, and we hope that you will continue to follow us.

  • BanG Dream! Anime Band Poppin’Party’s New Single Tops Oricon Charts

    Poppin’Party dropped their 16th single Photograph last Wednesday (January 6) which has gone on to reach No. 1 on Oricon’s Weekly Single Rankings for the week of January 18. Poppin’Party is a fictional all-female band part of the BanG Dream! media franchise.


    The song follows the success of the band’s 15th single, Initial/Yume o Uchinuku Shunkan ni! which was released on January 20, 2020 and also made it to No. 1 on the same charts. This positions Poppin’Party as having two number one singles.


    Photograph is a bright song with a hint of melancholy, featuring solo parts by each of the band members whose individual sections follow each of their memories, as if capturing snapshots of their own personal experiences like a photograph. The single is coupled with the song Aketara Dream!, a pop track with a call-and-response section.


    The Blu-ray Edition of the single includes episodes 1-13 of the mini anime series BanG Dream! Karupa☆Piko ~Omori~and a full-size lyric video of the title track.

  • Mafumafu Releases ‘Yurei’ Music Video and 14 Songs Simultaneously On Spotify

    Mafumafu released the music video for his new song Yurei on digital music platforms, including Spotify, on Sunday (January 10). The singer-songwriter, who celebrated his 10th anniversary on December 29, 2020, wrote the song for the new Japanese spring season special drama series Apuri de Koisuru 20 no Jouken.


    The animated music video was made in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Osamu Taniguchi, the first time Mafumafu has worked with him. The video features a looping animation of a female school student sat on the floor of the classroom with just the backgrounds changing and environment. It’s a simple video that captures the feelings of loneliness and restlessness.

    Mafumafu also released 14 songs simultaneously on music download and streaming services on Sunday including his new song Yurei, the track Yaso Hakuchumu (Short ver.) which features as the ending theme for the TV anime series Hortensia Saga, and more. The full tracklist can be found below.


    Yurei was written as the theme song for the Japanese drama series Apuri de Koisuru 20 no Jouken which began airing on Sunday. The series features a cameo from Mafumafu.

  • TV Anime Mo Dao Zu Shi Creditless Ending by Aimer Released

    Aniplex released a creditless video for the ending theme of the Japanese dub version of the Chinese animated series Mo Dao Zu Shi on Sunday (January 10). The dubbed series was also released in Japan on the same day.


    The ending theme is Kiro by Aimer and captures the immense scale and beauty of the series. The video was created by 10GAUGE who was also in charge of the opening video.


    About Mo Dao Zu Shi

    Mo Dao Zu Shi is an anime adaptation of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s Chinese web novel of the same name. The story follows Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, two men who journey to unravel the mysteries of the spiritual world where they must fight demons, ghosts, and other beings.

    At the beginning of the story, Wei Wuxian ends up experimenting with Mo Dao, or the ‘demonic path,’ a dark energy that lies underneath Xian, or immortality, something that all cultivators strive to achieve. He rises in power but is ultimately killed and reincarnated. He reunites with Lan and so their adventure begins.

    In celebration of Chinese New Year, GUCCI launched a new collection in collaboration with the famous Japanese manga series Doraemon as selected by the brand’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele.


    GUCCI recruited photographer Angelo Pennetta to create playful photoshoot for the collection which features smiling models accompanied by Doraemon inside a retro house.



    The exclusive collection features over 50 items from T-shirts to hoodies, shoes, bags, headwear, a suitcase, and more. Each item combines the stylish design of GUCCI and the colourful blue and white colour of the iconic manga character.



    Every item in the line-up arrives in sustainable packaging made from 100% recycled materials. GUCCI stores in Japan, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam will also welcome figures and prints inspired by the cities in these countries. The Shanghai and Hong Kong GUCCI art walls will also feature Doraemon against a GG backdrop.


    The collection was released on GUCCI’s official website worldwide and will drop in-store in Japan on January 20. The GUCCI store in Shibuya PARCO will plaster up promo posters and the Ginza, Aoyama, Shinjuku, and Nagoya branches will feature recreation’s of the iconic Anywhere Door from the manga series.

  • Japanese Star Actor Kimutaku Features in McDonald’s TV Commercial For New Cafe Latte & Choi Mac Burger

    McDonald’s Japan is teaming up with iconic Japanese actor and singer Takuya Kimura, also known as Kimutaku, once again following their collaboration with him in 2020. The star is featuring in a new commercial and campaign by McDonald’s that centres on rediscovering the value and taste of the fast food chain.

    The first in a series of commercials hit Japanese televisions on Tuesday (January 12) for McDonald’s Japan’s revamped hot and iced Cafe Lattes. The second commercial will be released next Tuesday (January 19) for the Yakkii grilled ginger burger. The ¥200 burger is arriving on the menu at McDonald’s Japan the following day on Wednesday.

    The first day of the event saw the characters come out to greet guests in their adorable strawberry and dessert themed costumes. This was followed by a new illumination show, Puro Sweets Party, which took place at Puro Village, and My Melody sang and danced to the music against the bright and beautiful lights. Guests enjoyed a selection of limited-time food like the Pompompurin’s Croissant Doughnut Strawberry Sandwich and Hello Kitty’s Sweet Strawberry Milk.
