Mobile Game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party Gets Themed Cafe in Tokyo, Osaka, & Nagoya

LEGS COMPANY is opening three cafes in Tokyo (Ikebukuro), Osaka (Umeda), and Aichi (Nagoya) based on the popular mobile game Game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party for a limited time from July 31, 2020.

 

Game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party is a rhythm and adventure mobile game that was released in Japan in 2017. It is part of Bushiroad’s “BanG Dream!” music media franchise which is centred on all-female bands.

 

Since summer 2017, LEGS COMPANY has opened themed cafes based around the game every year. 2017 saw the cafes focus on the vocalists of the bands in the game. In 2018, it was the keyboardists and DJs, and last year the drummers. Each theme brought with it illustrations and decorations created specifically for the cafes, as well as a food menu inspired by the characters, original merchandise, and more.

 

This year marks the 4th run of the annual summer cafe which will hit Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. The theme this time around focuses on the seven main bands from the game. Seven characters from the bands, including one from a new band, will welcome fans in the form of kawaii-packed dishes, drinks, and desserts.

    NAKED’s most popular work, NAKED BIG BOOK, utilizes projection mapping to allow guests to turn the pages of a giant book and experience a unique world separate from their own. Using web filters and AR, guests can also see the object as a pop-up picture book! 

     

    During this special collaboration held on a horse racing track, visitors can also see a giant white horse in AR as they explore the grounds. Colorful horseshoes and stars will pop up from people’s footprints, and the sound of visitors’ steps will take on the sound of a horse’s hooves instead. Be sure to make some memories by snapping commemorative photos with themed filters during the event!

     

  • Machida City Museum Hosts Looking at Prints: Techniques, Expressions and Histories Exhibition

    The Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts in Machida, Tokyo, is currently holding the Looking at Prints: Techniques, Expressions, and History exhibition until December 5, 2021. Featuring over 130 prints created with a large variety of techniques, guests can take a deep dive into how each piece of art was made. 

     

    An Up-to-Date Parody of the Four Classes – Utagawa Kunisada. 1857. Letterpress, wood, multi-color printing. 

     

    Artists featured in the exhibition have used many different techniques to create their masterpieces, including woodblocks, copper plates, lithographs, and stencils. The main exhibit introduces famous printmakers such as Albrecht Durer, Pablo Picasso, and Shiko Munakata, but also a number of lesser-known artists who utilized less traditional techniques.     The grand opening of Konica Minolta Planetarium Manten NAGOYA is scheduled for October 27, 2021. The original film Dog Star: Kimi to Miageru Fuyu no Seiza-tachi (Winter Constellations to Look Up With You) is set to be screened as the location’s first event, and singer-songwriter Keina Suda has been chosen to perform the movie’s theme Yomosugara (All Night). During this period, his song Charles became a smash hit, getting over 100 million views on YouTube. The musician wrote the song Yomosugara for the film. The writer of the film, Mari Okada, is also known for her work on Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and The Anthem of the Heart

    A friendship between two boys begins to twinkle in the light of the winter constellations. 

    Nobunaga Shimazaki plays Kousuke, a boy who is crazy about the stars, while Yama Uchida portrays Natsuki, active on the track and field team. This is a coming-of-age story woven together with the starry sky made of LED lights only available at Manten NAGOYA. 

     

    Kousuke, a boy who loves stars, failed his high school entrance exam. He reluctantly enrolls at his second-choice school, where he meets Natsuki, a member of the track and field team. He compares the brilliance of Natsuki to that of Sirius, the first magnitude star that shines with a fierce intensity. Kousuke thinks Natsuki is not the same as him, who is only the second magnitude star with little presence. However, the fate of the two twinkling stars is about to change drastically…

  • 90 Year Old Renovated Public Bath-turn-Cafe ‘Rebon Kaisaiyu’ to Hold Collab Exhibition with Illustrator Miyaoka Chigav

    Tokyo, Taito-ku based public bath cafe Rebon Kaisaiyu has announced a collaboration exhibition with illustrator Miyaoka Chiga, held between October 10 (public bath day) and October 24 2021, titled “Yu.”

     

    Rebon Kaisaiyu is a renovated public bath which was built 90 years ago, now transformed into a cafe serving home-roasted specialty coffee and handmade ice cream. The wooden tag shoe boxes, watch seats, ceilings, clocks, and Mt. Fuji paintings from the public bath have been preserved, retaining the comfort and warmth of the original building. 

     

    The space was designed around the concept of “connecting memories through a cafe,” striving to become a spot where locals could relax once more, connecting the building with the people of the new generation. The relaxing cafe has 16 seats available and is located only a five minute walk from Tokyo Metro Hibiya Station.

     

    The collaboration exhibition will be filled with artwork using iconic public bath motifs. Miyaoka’s gentle illustrations are sure to soothe your heart, immersing you in the warmth of “Yu” (public baths). Why not relax in this unique cafe with a comforting mug of hot coffee.

  • Changes Made to November’s OMNIBUS Music Festival in Tokyo

    As part of the Tokyo Art & Live City project, the OMNIBUS music festival will take place on November 6 and 7 in Japan’s capital. Rather than being held at Shinjuku Central Park, the November 7 concert will now take place at Hulic Hall Tokyo. Originally, this concert was named The Park #Assembly, though this has now been changed to The Hall #Space. For those holding tickets with the original name, don’t worry–your ticket will still be valid at the new venue. 

     

    Those who want a refund due to the venue change should head to the official website by October 9. The November 6 concert titled The Circuit #Excursion will be held as scheduled.

  • Nagoya Castle “O.SHIRO Collection” Fashion Show Streaming Online

    GQ Japan and ITOCHU Textiles have released a video of The “O.SHIRO” Collection Vol.2 fashion show, highlighting domestic textile production areas around Japan. The video is now available on the special GQ Japan website, as well as the GQ Japan official YouTube channel. 

     

    GQ was first published in the United States in 1957 and is now published in 21 countries around the world. 

     

    The “O.SHIRO” Collection (o-shiro meaning ‘castle’ in Japanese) is a collaborative collection bringing Japanese textile producers and fashion brands together. The first event was held at Okayama Castle in 2019, with Okayama being an area known for denim production. The second event was held at Nagoya Castle, located in the famed Bishu wool production area. The theme of the most recent showing was ‘ethical consumption,’ a big topic in manufacturing. Three increasingly global brands took center stage: ANREALAGE, beautiful people, and sulvam. Models present include Taiki&Noah, Dori Sakurada, Mila Aina, and Satsuki Nakayama. 

     

    A patchwork collection from ANREALAGE using textiles from the Bishu region was released on October 4. On October 7, a collection from beautiful people will include textiles from Wakayama, while on October 14, sulvam will release a collection made from Okayama and Hiroshima denim. Certain pieces from The “O.SHIRO” Collection will be on display on the 3rd floor of Shibuya PARCO.

  • ‘Shiseido Parlour Ginza Salon de Cafe’ Reveals Limited Autumn Dessert Menu

    The ‘Shiseido Parlour Ginza Salon de Cafe’ has announced that between October 1 and October 31 2021, customers can enjoy a limited edition Autumnal sweets menu. This year their menu includes the Jersey milk ‘Japanese Chestnut Mont Blanc Parfait from Kyushu’ and the ‘Shine Grape Fruit Sandwich.’ There will also be two special additions to the menu to celebrate the 96th Azuma Odori.

    In the late Meiji Era, Shinbashi geisha were often seen wearing blue and green kimonos, with the color combination being coined Shinbashiiro (Shinbashi Color.) The elegant and retro Shinbashi Color Ice Cream Soda recreates the iconic look using green apple syrup, lemon, and ginger ale, topped with a traditional vanilla ice cream.
