Kero Kero Bonito to Participate in Urusei Yatsura 40th Anniversary Project

17.December.2021 | ANIME&GAME / MUSIC

UK-based electro-pop unit Kero Kero Bonito will participate in the worldwide remix project of Lum’s Love Song, the opening theme to the Urusei Yatsura anime series. Still a fan-favorite after 40 years, the third installment of the project will release digitally on January 26, 2022.

On November 17, Izumi Kobayashi released Lum’s Love Song (Reboot) along with Limited Toss, a trackmaker she met in London.

The first EP of the remix project, ‘Lum’s Love Song (Reboot) Mimix EP.1’ was released digitally on December 8. It features remixes by Kenmochi Hidefumi of Wednesday Campanella, Chinese trackmaker 3asic, and Osaka-based Limited Toss.

Upcoming Lum’s Love Song remixes will be provided by Korean music producer T.WON and SKYTOPIA, along with tofubeats. ‘Lum’s Love Song (Reboot) Mimix EP.2’ will be released on January 12, 2022.

The project’s third installment will release on January 26 and will include GUS BONITO of Kero Kero Bonito, who has garnered worldwide attention for his unique electro-pop sound. Fumitaka Anzai has composed theme songs for anime series such as Urusei Yatsura and Dr. Slump as well as film music. Simonger Mobile is a funk unit that performs using game consoles, so these will be some interesting additions!

A special website has been opened to commemorate the new project, and a Twitter campaign will allow participants to win a canvas board of the new jacket cover.

Fumi Hirano, Lum’s original voice actress from Urusei Yatsura, also left a comment about the project.

Comment from Izumi Kobayashi

This series of releases is the culmination of the 40th anniversary of Lum’s Love Song. I’ve seen plenty of people cover the song, but I’m happy to participate myself this time! This doesn’t really fit into any genre or category, and ever since I’ve moved overseas, I’ve met so many people who have inspired me to insert more unique sounds into my music. Please enjoy listening to these incredible reimaginings of my classic song.

Comment from Fumi Hirano

It’s hard to believe that Urusei Yatsura is 40 years old this year. What an incredible gift this is. Thank you all so much! We’re excited to bring more fans of the series together from around the world!
