    Starting September 23, teamLab Forest Fukuoka will be transformed for the autumn season! The interactive digital art installation will feature animals made entirely of fall foliage, and guests can enjoy red and orange leaves fluttering through the one-of-a-kind 3D world. 

     

    teamLab’s prolific works are known for changing with the seasons. This autumn version of the popular exhibition will only be on display for a limited time, and visitors can use their
    smartphones in the Catching and Collecting Forest to catch and collect the animals on display! The forest and ocean scenery will change as you explore, and starting on September 23, the trees will begin to show off beautiful autumn colors.

    In the Forest of Movement, guests can enter the ‘Shifting Valley, Living Creatures of Flowers, Symbiotic Lives’ exhibit, where creatures made of autumn flowers exist in a three-dimensional space. The space is meant to make guests think about the cycle of death and rebirth, as flowers blossom and die each and every year.

    The ‘Soft Terrain and Granular Topography’ will display tons of colorful grains raining down on visitors, while the ‘Flutter of Butterflies, Ephemeral Life’ will change the usual butterflies to have autumn colors as they fly around guests. This is a kind of autumn scenery you can’t see anywhere else, so be sure to come to Fukuoka during this beautiful season!

  • teamLab to Hold Limited-Time Art Exhibition by Lake Yamanaka in Yamanashi

    To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Yamanashi Sannichi Newspaper & Sannichi YBS Group, teamLab will hold a special illuminated art event on the shore of Lake Yamanaka in Yamanashi Prefecture from October 28 until November 13, 2022. Guests will be able to enjoy the Sunset Shore Autumn Leaves Festival at the same time, and at the same venue.

    The works on display will be Autonomous Resonating Life and the Sketch Aquarium. In Autonomous Resonating Life, guests will wander along the shore, passing by massive colorful and glowing ovoids being pushed and pulled by the wind. When there is no wind, and when no one is touching the ovoids, they will begin to slowly blink.

     

    The Sketch Aquarium invites visitors to color a drawing of a sea creature. Once finished, these creations will come to life in a giant virtual aquarium, swimming together with other creations. Visitors can touch the fish to see them swim away, or can touch a virtual food bag to feed them!

  • Popular Manga Series Chainsaw Man Gets Pop-Up at Iwataya in Fukuoka

    Jewelry brand Tasaki has announced a special collaboration pop-up with the popular manga Chainsaw Man from September 7 until September 13, 2022 at KIRAMEKI BOARD on the first floor of the Iwataya Department Store in Fukuoka. The pop-up is being held to celebrate new items in the ‘danger’ line, one of Tasaki’s new iconic items.

     

    At the venue, guests can peruse a selection of Tasaki’s fine jewelry, including the new ‘danger’ collection which was inspired by the beauty of insectivorous plants. This is a perfect mix with Chainsaw Man, which has captivated audiences around the world with its unique plot, savage content, and one-of-a-kind characters. Special visuals of the main characters wearing jewelry from the ‘danger’ collection will be on display, drawn by the original author of the series Tatsuki Fujimoto. Also on display at the venue will be a special Pochita figure, whose chainsaw will be lavishly set with pearls.

  • teamLab Borderless in Odaiba Relocates to Toranomon-Azabudai Project

    The long-running teamLab Borderless exhibition at the Mori Building Digital Art Museum in Odaiba, Tokyo will close on August 31, 2022. It has now been announced that the exhibition will be moving to the Toranomon-Azabudai Project, which is scheduled to be completed and opened in 2023. The new location will further evolve the teamLab Borderless concepts of space, exploration, and discovery.

    teamLab Borderless opened in Odaiba in June 2018, and was called a ‘museum without a map.’ In its first year, the museum welcomed 2.3 million visitors, the largest number of visitors for a single artist’s museum in the world. Visitors from more than 160 countries and regions around the world came to explore the unique location, and the museum has received numerous national and international awards, including being named one of the World’s Greatest Places 2019 by Time Magazine and receiving a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement at the 25th Annual Thea Awards.

    teamLab Borderless also opened a location in Shanghai in 2019. Future openings are planned for Hamburg and Jeddah.

  • teamLab to Hold Solo Exhibition at Seoul’s Pace Gallery

    Art collective teamLab will hold a solo exhibition at Pace Gallery in Seoul from September 2 until October 29, 2022. Titled ‘teamLab: Massless Suns,’ the exhibition will mark the opening of the expanded gallery space at the internationally-recognized art landmark. The collective will also be unveiling a new work, Massless Suns and Dark Spheres, in which countless light and dark objects without boundaries fill the space around guests.

    In March, the Pace Gallery opened a new exhibition space dedicated to experimental and immersive interactive works. Those familiar with teamLab will recognize some of their most popular works appearing during the exhibition, including the Dissipative Figures series and Waves of Light. 

     

    In the newly-opened outdoor courtyard, the work ‘Resonating Microcosms – Solidified Light Color, Sunrise and Sunset’ will be on display, constantly transforming due to wind and rain, as well as influence from guests. A new concept work, ‘Solidified Light Color,’ will shine with 61 colors, inviting the environment and visitors to become a part of the art itself.

  • teamLab Opens Art-Filled Nighttime Botanical Garden Exhibition in Osaka

    Art collective teamLab will open a permanent nighttime exhibition at the Nagai Botanical Garden in Osaka starting July 29, 2022. On-site video footage shows off several new works, such as Sculptures of Dissipative Birds in the Wind, a digital work impacted by the environment. Birds flying around the work and the wind’s strength impact how the art moves.

     

    Life is Flickering Light Floating in Darkness – Sunflowers

     

    In summer, 20,000 sunflowers bloom in the Life Garden, where seasonal flowers are transformed into an interactive space filled with illumination. This was opened to the public for a limited time to celebrate the exhibition’s opening and will be open until August 5.

     

     

    The Nagai Botanical Garden covers 240,000 square meters and is home to roughly 1,200 species of plants. teamLab has transformed the space, with the digital art pieces changing according to the behavior of guests. 

     

    In the future, teamLab plans to introduce seasonal works, making use of plants that bloom in spring, summer, fall, and winter.

  • teamLab’s ‘A Forest Where Gods Live’ Exhibition Returns to Mifuneyama Rakuen Park in Saga for Eighth Year

    From July 15 until November 6, the popular teamLab exhibition A Forest Where Gods Live will be returning to Mifuneyama Rakuen Park in Saga Prefecture! This year, a new work titled Ephemeral Solidified Light will be on display, with rainbow-colored lights swirling and shining across the gorgeous landscape. The exhibition is being sponsored by Volvo. 

     

    Ephemeral Solidified Light makes it seem like the lights themselves have come to life. Visitors will be tempted to reach out and touch them, but they’ll only find normal water against their fingertips.

    The exhibition will be held for the eighth year at Mifuneyama Rakuen Park, which opened in 1845 and spans an enormous 500,000 square meters. teamLab hopes to use digital technology to transform the natural environment into something new and unique. The company uses the rocks, caves, and forests to encourage contemplation of the meaning of life through their digital art which is non-material and does not harm nature in any way.

     

    The massive event is held each summer and fall and was named CNN World’s ‘Best Outdoor Art Exhibition to Visit’ in 2021.

    Summer is returning to the Kirby Cafe. Thinking of the warmer months, Chef Kawasaki has created a special menu! As a Waddle Dee, filled with great excitement, wandered through the forest…it saw tons of lush, ripe peaches. 

     

    “Huh? That pink, round peach reminds me of something…” 

     

    Then came Kirby, who was looking forward to the summer menu more than anyone else. 

     

    “Ah, that’s right! The peach looks just like Kirby!”

     

    Happy to have solved the riddle, Kirby smiled brightly at Waddle Dee. Gazing at this glorious summer scene with tons of juicy peaches ready to be eaten, he couldn’t help but imagine tons of tasty treats! Peach parfait, sparkling soda, blue jelly sparkling like the ocean…not wanting to forget these ideas, Kirby and Waddle Dee gathered the peaches and began cooking.

  • teamLab Borderless to Close Odaiba Location in August, Tickets Available Through Final Day

    teamLab Borderless, a digital art museum currently housed in Odaiba’s Mori Building, will be moving to a more central location in Tokyo in 2023. In preparation for the move, the Odaiba location will close on August 31, and tickets for July and August are available now. Each ticket must be purchased ahead of visiting, and each specifies a date and time for entry. Tickets are available while supplies last.

    Art collective teamLab will open a permanent nighttime exhibition, ‘teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka,’ at Nagai Botanical Garden in Osaka in the summer of 2022.

     

    The Nagai Botanical Garden, which originally opened in 1974, reopened on April 1, 2022, after tree thinning, tree rearrangement and replanting to accommodate new root growth, and soil improvement to create an environment where plants can thrive and grow in the far future. The garden covers over 240,000 square meters and is home to 1,200 species of plants, flowers, and trees.

    This summer, teamLab will transform the garden into an art space where the past, present, and future intersect, blending with nature’s changing seasons and the presence of guests.

    TeamLab’s environmentally friendly art project, ‘Digitized Nature,’ aims to show “nature itself becoming art in its natural state” by using only digital technology. Nothing in the gardens needs to be destroyed to create art.

    At teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka, the daytime botanical garden will become an art space at night. The space will be transformed by actual wind and rain, as well as by the behavior of the birds and the actions of visitors to the site.

  • BT21 Amusement Park Event to Open in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka

    NAMJATOWN, a theme park located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, will be holding a special BT21 event from May 14 until June 12, 2022! The ‘BT21 MerryLand ~Welcome to our Dreamy World!~’ event celebrates the popular LINE FRIENDS characters, and guests can enjoy lots of games and treats!
