TRAVEL Q&A: Where can I meet “Harajuku Girls?”―10 things you should know about sightseeing in Japan

07.September.2017 | SPOT

It’s time to go sightseeing in Japan! But, where should I go? MMN will introduce to you “Ten things you should know about sightseeing in Japan.” especially around the Tokyo area.

1: Where can I get some good sushi?

If you visit Japan, of course you will want to eat sushi! Sushi can be expensive at some shops. If you want a cheaper option there are actually 100 yen plate sushi shops!!! Sushi-lovers can now pig out without worrying about whether they are eating high-end fish. (You see, at sushi-go-round sushi restaurants, you can tell the prices by the color of the plate).

There are lots of places in town you can go to for this awesome deal. You can also ask about good sushi restaurants located near your hotel at the front desk! You should check out MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON’s FOOD category for further details about recommended Japanese restaurants.

2: Where can I meet “Harajuku Girls?”

If you want to meet “Harajuku Girls,” you should come to MOSHI MOSHI BOX located near the Takeshita Street. There is a big and colorful world clock on the wall of the MOSHI MOSHI BOX building and many Harajuku girls visit there to take photogenic photos! KAWAII MONSTER CAFÉ is also recommended because all waiters are “cosplay-ers”!

3: Where is the “maid café?”

You can meet these “maids” in Akihabara! Get “maids” to welcome you and draw cute drawings on your food here. Akihabara is also the electric appliance center of Tokyo so you can get all your tech-gear here. And Akihabara is known for “Otaku”(people who love animes)so you should go there if you want to see Japanese Anime culture.

4: Where can I get “Kawaii” gifts/souvenirs?

Definitely in Harajuku. Especially all shops on Takeshita Street have the “kawaii” style so you are bound to find very cute souvenirs for yourself and for your friends back home. And some of you may know “Cat Street” in Harajuku. There are not only second-hand clothing stores but also some general stores and stickers store, too.

5: Where can I take purikura?

Purikura stores are scattered throughout the city, but if you happen to be in Harajuku there are several along Takeshita Street. Some are in basement floors so are a bit hard to find, but keep an good eye out and you’ll definitely find them. (Beware, your eyes will become HUGE in purikura pictures!)

6: Where can I get some cheap and unique items?

You can find them in 100- yen shops! Almost all items are 100 yen in these shops. One popular 100-yen shop is called, “Daiso” and it is located on Takeshita Street.

7: Where can I see the Hachiko statue?

Hachiko is a famous dog statue that is right outside JR Shibuya Station. In order to find him, you must come out of the Hachiko Exit in Shibuya Station. You have to try you’re best to find him in the midst of people but once you spot an old green Japanese train (you can actually go inside), the Hachikou statue will be right across from that train. The Hachiko statue is a famous spot to meet-up with friends, which is why there are always so many people standing around there.

8: Any good places to party at night in Tokyo?

Roppongi would be your best bet to fulfill your party animal desires and to have one of the most memorable nights in Tokyo (that is if you can remember the next day.) Not only are there a ton of places to drink, Roppongi is the home of many clubs. Filled pretty much any day of the week you are bound to find some fun there.

Shibuya is another great place to party with your friends. As well as clubs, it has many “izakayas,” basically a Japanese bar where you can order little side dishes as well. Many of the locals enjoy the “all you can drink for two hour” deals they have. Shinjuku as well, although the station can be very confusing, is a good city to find izakaya’s and bars to drink at!

9: I want to visit temple or shrine!

Meiji-jingu Shrine is probably one of the easiest to get to! It is right in Harajuku, so you can definitely stop by on your shopping day!

Once you get out of the train station, you will see the store GAP right across the street. Don’t cross the street but turn right and keep going. You’ll soon see the entrance to the Shrine. (P.S Meiji-Jingu Shrine is big so if you plan on going through the whole premise, shoes might be a good idea! You should check out MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON’s “SPOT” category for further details about recommended shrines.

10: Where are classic places to visit?

Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree are two landmarks that are definitely worthwhile visiting! The famous “Kaminarimon” is located in Asakusa near Tokyo Sky Tree. The Imperial Palace and the Edo-Tokyo Museum are also good places to visit if you want to see historical Japanese landmarks. You should check out “Tokyo Stroll” articles for further details about recommended places.
