A forest of coloured Christmas trees illuminates Omotesando Hills for the festive season.

01.October.2017 | Uncategorized

“OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2017 with Panasonic Beauty” will take place during the festive season at Omotesando Hills. During this limited period event, the atrium will be decorated to the theme of a multicoloured forest of 100 Christmas trees that radiates with beautiful illumination.

This winter, French designer and architect Emmanuelle Moureaux, who manages many projects in Tokyo, has taken inspiration from the lights all over the city and used this inspiration for an artistic piece to be displayed at Omotesando Hills. To create a symbol for this impressive building, Moureaux will create a grand Christmas tree art piece, using the atrium to its full potential.

At Omotesando Hills, Moureaux took inspiration from traditional Japanese room partitions to create the concept of “Shikiri”. “Shikiri” is Moureaux’s concept of using colour to create and divide spaces. From this, the idea of a vivid forest of beautiful Christmas trees was born. The centrepiece is a 7-metre tall white Christmas tree that is made up of carefully stacked 70cm triangles. The surrounding area consists of 100 colours of mini trees, where approximately 1,500 tress are suspended. The paper trees soften the light, creating a beautiful display. Each angle and the location from which you view the masterpiece, and even the time of day at which you view the piece, will change your experience. There are an infinite number of ways to view this artistic work. Each person will feel a unique emotion to each view.

▼A comment from Emmanuelle Moureaux

This is the first piece in which I have used illumination. Keyaki Namiki and Yoyogi park are just a couple of examples of the many areas of this region that are filled with an impressive amount of greenery. This is why I decided to craft a forest in the atrium of Omotesando Hills. The atrium is quite narrow yet deep, so the task of arranging the scene to give a view of 100 colours set quite a challenge, however the slope of Omotesando Hills is its special feature. I want to create a scene, where from any point at which a viewer stands, they would not be able to resist walking around in circles to watch the changing scenery of illumination. Please come along and gaze at the soft illumination of these Christmas trees. Enjoy the different views of all the different perspectives.
