Hokusai, Doraemon and Makoto Shinkai! Six recommended art exhibitions in Tokyo to be held this coming winter
There must a lot of people who like to enjoy art works in the autumn.
In this article, I will introduce to you MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON’S recommended art exhibitions in Tokyo.
Even those of you who don’t go to museums or art galleries often can enjoy these exhibitions.
National Museum of Western Art “Hokusai to Japonisum” (Ueno)
Hokusai Katsuhika is one of the most famous “ukiyoe” (Japanese art form established in Edo period) artists of the latter Edo period. His works influenced artists in almost all Western counties and various genres such as carving and garnish craft.
The exhibition which will be held at the museum is the first exhibition to introduce the works of Hokusai from the viewpoint of “Japonism.” You can compare the works of Hokusai, Monet, Degas and Gauguin and confirm the influence that Hokusai exerted on Western artists.
YAYOI KUSAMA MUSEUM (Shinjuku)
A museum founded by the world’s famous avant-garde artitist Yayoi Kusama.
The museum was founded to contribute to the further development art through Kusama’s works and related documents.
The collection of Kusama’s works is exhibited twice every year and lecture presentations are held too. Even those of you who are not familiar with avant-garde arts can enjoy this museum. A reservation must be made and the number of persons who can enter the museum per day is fixed. Tickets can be bought on their website.
THE Doraemon Ten TOKYO 2017 (Roppongi)
28 artists who resonated with the concept of the exhibition “please create your own Doraemon” will gather and release their dreamy one-and-only art works.
Doraemon has been delivering lots of dreams to Japanese people. Can’t wait to see the unique art works created by these special artists. Let’s witness the moment when “art” and “Doraemon” meet each other.
