《MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON FESTIVAL 2015 in TOKYO》10 Things You Didn’t Want to Miss at the MOSHI FES Booths

21.October.2015 | Uncategorized

MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON FESTIVAL 2015 in TOKYO served as a huge success – spanning over a whopping three days this year, (while it was a one-day fest last year) the event kept the audience entranced not only with the music that aligned with the themes that were assigned to each day, but with the booths that kept fans of Japanese pop culture busily engaged with the latest trends.

Read our report for more on who was where, and what kept J-pop culture fans smiling wide with excitement – for those of you who weren’t in Japan and cried a river for not making it, we’re teasing you with what you can experience in the forthcoming MOSHI MOSHI FESTIVALS – we might just head your way soon.

1. Games, games, games with models, models, models

Once you start you just can’t stop – that’s how it usually goes with games, and fans definitely wouldn’t have minded the session prolonging, apparent from the enthused crowd gathered at the game-held-booths, drawing larger numbers of curious fans.

Spotted: Models playing jyanken (translates to rock, paper and scissors) giving away exciting gifts from SPINNS to the jyanken-queen

Spotted 2: Models playing against one lucky fan on the Mario Cart game, which was taken out of their familiar arcade setting and landing a spot at the HARAJUKU KAWAii booth

2. Meeting that model you’ve long admired and expressed love through an innumerable amount of tapped “likes”

Fans got high off the excitement of meeting the models they’ve gone crazy over at various booths at varying times of the day.

Photoshoots with models were held at the FUJIFILM booth with the girls of Cheki-fure (Ren Koseki, Saki Shibata, Rinko Murata and YuRi), the MILPOM★ booth with the voice actresses (Anna Yano, Hikari Shiina, etc.), and at the KITTY PUTTY booth with Karin and P of TEMPURA KIDZ as well as Eva Cheung, designer of the irresistible badges packaged carefully into the capsule toys.

Furthermore, the line got longer and longer with excited fans waiting for what seemed to be an excruciating amount of time for them to reach the “meet and greet area” where fans could meet their beloved idols, artists and models and get to shake hands with them, take pictures with them, and score the rare opportunity of getting their autographs. Obviously everyone was in to win this exciting experience.

3. Busting out the wallet didn’t happen at these booths

Spotted: Capsule toy machines at the KITTY PUTTY booth.

What were in them?: Fans had the chance to win massively popular Hong Kong insta-famous model, Eva Cheung-designed badges

Other freebies included mini mirrors at the PIA booth (which can come in handy at any hour of the day), toothpaste at Sunstar (because yellow-looking teeth has never really been appealing), free nails for your two favorite fingers by Nakayama Chieko, THE exceptional figure that is now the go-to for J-pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, at KIREIMO if you get your hair plucked out with their newest laser, decoration pens at the COUPY-DESIGN COSMETICS booth, hair ties to die for and face masks to nourish the skin at C CHANNEL, and cosmetic items from FUEKI.

Spotted: Lots and lots of people going all out with kabuki-style face paint as well as festival-perfect miniature stickers stamped on their cheeks.

WHERE WAS THIS HAPPENING AND HOW DID I MISS OUT?: The MOSHI MOSHI BOX workshop in the outdoor area. Missing out only means you’ve got all the more reason to come back!

Other experiences where the wallet didn’t leave the bag: free hairstyle arrangements at LORETTA, free karaoke at the LIVE DAM STADIUM in the main arena/karaoke van in the outdoor area, creating a playlist full of the tunes you never get sick of listening to at Asia’s largest music streaming service booth KKBOX.

4. Shop ’til you drop – any time, anywhere

For all you folks who can’t resist copping an article of clothing once you’ve entered your favorite shopping district/store, this fes was most definitely a tough one. This rings true for the MOSHI MOSHI MARKET laying out a chock full of once-model-owned-items, readily labeled with the names of which model the item belonged to, girls went nuts over the selection with slightly less aggression than one you’ll witness at a New Year’s bargain, all these girls were in for the best. Other places you could shop ’til you drop included Harajuku-fashion-geared SPINNS booth, all the cosplay-gear at PURE, and the TOWER RECORDS booth welcoming you with albums by performing artists.

5. Kids creating instant friendship bonds with mascot characters, secretly making your heart melt inside

What did you enjoy at festivals as a kid?

When a yellow mascot character came waving at you as it inched towards you, that was all it took to create an instant friendship bond with you and this adorably fluffed up character. Well that’s exactly what happened at the Fueki booth and the ASOBIRIGHTS booth, that welcomed cute mascots that also got adequately excited when the music started rattling their fabricated organs.

6. Getting cultured right (part 1) and getting you covered with all of Japan’s archetype YATAI food + NIKU FES + MARUKOME-CHAN MISO SOUP

Just like the impulsive popcorn/nachos-run you make pre-movie-night, there’s a certain type of food you’re driven to eat when you head out to a matsuri: takoyaki, yakisoba, okonomiyaki, crepe…the list goes on and on. All of it was set right at the Konamon food booth, alongside the largest and most-loved meat fest in the nation: NIKU FES that brought marvellous meat dishes, ranging from meat sushi to roasted chicken to roast beef to street food rep kebab, drawing a big smile on the faces of all meat aficionados. Another booth that kept you full and warm in the winter-suggestive weather was the miso soup at the MARUKOME booth, welcoming a constant flow of those new-to-Japan trying out Japan’s standard dish one regularly enjoys with their meal.

7. Getting cultured right (part 2) with Japan’s traditions that have been succeeded over generations

Whilst dabbling in the multicolor pop culture of Japan, the traditional dimension was also pieced into the outdoor area so fans could get a taste of the where Japanese culture all began. When else do you get the chance to write like a Japanese (shodo=Japanese calligraphy writing), drink tea like a Japanese (sado=Japanese tea ceremony), and dress like you’re living in an age pre-Bakumatsu period (=kimono-fitting, with your hair done and all)? Since it wasn’t exactly your day-to-day-type of activity that’s as easily accessible as a convenience store in Japan, it got families, friends and many from abroad excited to familiarize themselves with the long-established Japanese traditions.

8. Surprises because they’re the best

Spotted 1: Anna Yano at the LIVE DAM STADIUM busting out her favorite ani-tune: “Catch me, Catch you” (Cardcaptor Sakura theme song)

Spotted 2: Ema*Eri, Hiko Achinami, Yura, Yuna Yabe (in order of appearance) at the MOSHI MOSHI MARKET, running as staff and working the cashier

Spotted 3: Yun*chi rocking the karaoke van in the outdoor area.

9. Experiencing the future with the TELEPATHY JUMPER

NIPPON STAGE DAY 2 was powered by crowd funding service Wannabee, which also had an event space that demonstrated their copacker, Telepathy Japan’s newest device: the TELEPATHY JUMPER. Shout out to the future where your significant other can virtually be present to experience what you’re experiencing even when you’re far apart. With this eyewear which also acts as a camera, you’ll be seeing through the same lens with the person you’re sharing the landscape with – and you can share all of this at real time. What a jaw-dropping experience to see this come to life!

10. Streaming on Nico Live, Like it’s Supposed to be in This Digital Age

From the beautifully drawn out calligraphy that spelled MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON on day 1 to the elegant Japanese buyou (dance) on day 2, and Mito Natsume talk session on day 3 – MOSHI FES brought it to you live on Nico Live, hosted by Hoshino-chan and Ai-chan at the special-held NICO LIVE booth!

How many of these did you make it to? Whatever you’ve missed, don’t let your hopes down – we just might be heading over to you in the near future! Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for the latest updates!
