“Lemon Sour Festival 2018” will be held in 7 cities

The Lemon Sour Festival Planning Committee will hold “Lemon Sour Festival 2018” from the 5th of April (Thurs.) to the 7th (Sat.). The festival will be held in Tokyo, Osaka, Sendai, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Yokohama.

 

 

This event which was started under the concept of “introducing the

charms of “lemon sour,” a cocktail made of liquor mixed with lemon or lime juice, which popular among young people, to wide generation.”It is the largest food/drink event featuring lemon sour in Japan (surveyed by the planning committee) and the first event was held in Nakameguro in 2017.

 

As well as the “standard lemon sour” made with “shochu”(traditional Japanese distilled spirit), soda and lemon, many kinds of lemon sours including “evolved lemon sours” which use frozen lemon or lemon preserved in syrup can be enjoyed with various kinds of foods. 5,208 people visited the venue last year (within 2 days) and 6,679 cups of lemon sour were sold although the weather condition was bad.

  • Tokyo Daijingu Shrine in Iidabashi Offering Rilakkuma Themed Ema Plaques

    The popular character Rilakkuma was recently appointed as the tourism ambassador for Chiyoda City in Tokyo. To commemorate this lofty position, Tokyo Daijingu Shrine will begin offering Ema decorated with Rilakkuma starting December 1, 2021. Ema are small wooden plaques found at shrines, and visitors can write their wishes or prayers on them before hanging them up for the Gods to receive them. 

     

    Tokyo Daijingu was built in the early Meiji period so that residents of Tokyo could worship the many deities enshrined at the Grand Shrine of Ise from afar. Originally built in Hibiya, the shrine was moved to Iidabashi in 1928 after the Kanto Earthquake. 

     

    Rilakkuma became the tourism ambassador for Chiyoda in August and aims to convey the many charms of the area to as many people as possible. These Ema feature an original Rilakkuma design along with the crest of Tokyo Daijingu.

  • Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse to Hold 17th Annual Art & Ice Skating Event ArtRink

    Starting in 2005 to add more color to Yokohama’s winter season, the ArtRink event held at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse combines artworks and ice skating for a bright and colorful way to spend a cold day. The 17th annual event will be held from December 4, 2021, until February 20, 2022, and will feature two artists: Moeno Ootsu and unpis, both taking part for the first time. The theme for this year’s art is ‘Stepping Out in Slippers.’

  • Tokyo Revengers Art Exhibition to Open in Tokyo and Osaka in 2022

    The globally popular manga series Tokyo Revengers has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2017 and has sold over 40 million copies. An anime series began in April 2021, and a live-action film made its way to theaters in July. In 2022, a Tokyo Revengers art exhibition will be coming to Tokyo and Osaka for a limited time. The event will be coming to Tokyo in January and to Osaka in March.

VTuber sifar is popular throughout Japan for her rock tracks, while cosplay girls band mimiQ_Lyric aims to deliver Japanese pop culture to the world. 

     

    Those interested will be able to purchase streaming tickets through Z-aN, and anyone in Japan can also buy tickets at the venue. The live stream will feature HD multi-angle footage so viewers can enjoy the full range of the show. Performing VTubers will utilize Monolis, a system allowing them to go anywhere and interact with people in their life-sized forms. This is in cooperation with the Wasabi Music School.

    The Chibi Maruko-chan manga series began in 1986, and was serialized in the popular shojo manga magazine Ribon until 2018. Written by Momoko Sakura, it tells the everyday life of the third-grade troublemaker Maruko and her family. The series is set in the Irie district in Shimizu, now a part of Shizuoka City, where Momoko Sakura was born. 

     

    A number of heartwarming Maruko-themed decorations and exhibits will be set up around the Landmark Tower, with collaboration merchandise available at a pop-up shop and food available at specific restaurants during the event period. A stamp rally will also ask guests to go on a quest to find Maruko and her friends, and by collecting all of the stamps digitally, guests will receive a coupon for free admission for one adult to the Sky Garden observation floor (69F), along with an original Maruko-chan sticker. 500 winners will be selected by lottery to receive a limited-edition tote bag, and participating in the rally will get you an original wallpaper.

  • Sebastian Masuda Kawaii Exhibition to be Held at 1,300-Year-Old Kanda Myojin Shrine

    Sebastian Masuda, the Godfather of Kawaii, is bringing his ‘Yes, Kawaii is Art’ exhibition to Tokyo. If that isn’t cool enough, the event will be held from December 4 until December 12, 2021, at the 1,300-year-old Kanda Myojin Shrine, known as one of the most important shrines during the Edo period.

    Originally scheduled to arrive in Tokyo in September, the exhibition was postponed due to the state of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kanda Myojin is known as the site of the Kanda Festival, one of the three major Shinto festivals in Tokyo started by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1600. The shrine is very close to Akihabara, and has become a place for technophiles to pray for their electronics!

     

    Sebastian Masuda is known as the Godfather of Kawaii, and his colorful and crazy art is known around the world. In 2020, Masuda asked a number of questions to fans of Japanese pop culture around the world–what is Kawaii? Why does Kawaii cross borders, generations, and gender? This new exhibition tries to find an answer to those questions while bringing some joy and excitement to the local community. 

     

    Osaka’s City of Art Kitakagaya has hosted Masuda’s exhibition since October 30, with his works spread out across three different venues. These will be open until November 30, 2021. 

     

    Additionally, on November 13, a street fashion show by Masuda’s popular Harajuku fashion brand 6%DOKIDOKI will be held at the third venue. The brand turns 26 this year. 

  • Winter Scenery Coming to teamLab Forest Fukuoka for a Limited Time

    The permanent museum teamLab Forest Fukuoka is bringing winter scenery to the virtual exhibition for a limited time starting November 20, 2021. Many of the virtual exhibits will be covered in fluffy snowflakes as butterflies flutter by in seasonal winter colors.   • Sneaker Art Project artrA to Hold Final Exhibition in Osaka and Tokyo

    Street culture is ever-evolving, and sneakers play a big part in street fashion. Combining sneakers and art, the artrA project is about to wrap up its first successful season. SNKRDUNK, Japan’s premier sneaker selling app and popular shoe shop atmos have teamed up for this exhibition, which will feature the famous AIR JORDAN 1. These exhibitions have taken place in seven cities across Japan since July. The final exhibitions will be held in Osaka in November and in Tokyo in December. 

     

    A total of 26 up-and-coming illustrators, graphic designers, and even ukiyo-e artists have come together for this unique event. The artwork in this exhibition will incorporate the AIR JORDAN 1 brand, and merchandise featuring this street-styled artwork will be available at the venue.

     

    Those who purchase a T-Shirt on-site will be entered into a raffle to win a pair of AIR JORDAN 1 sneakers. In addition, a special lottery will allow winners to purchase a pair of sneakers to take home.
