Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu to Open in Autumn 2018

31.March.2018 | SPOT

Tokyu Corporation are working with proprietors in areas adjacent to the Tokoyo Line to redevelop the southern district of Shibuya Station and establish what has been named the Shibuya Stream.

The facility will be turned into a new hotel named Shibuya Stream Excel Hotel Tokyu under the Tokyu Hotels Co., Ltd. brand.

The Shibuya area is home to several of Japan’s sightseeing landmarks and is a hub for businesses. The 3 hotels managed by Tokyu Hotels hold an occupancy rate of over 90%. These factors not only mean that room demand is high in the area, but also that there is a lack of accommodation facilities. Shibuya also has a lack of offices, so to combat this,  places like Shibuya Stream and Shibuya Scramble Square Higashitou, which is scheduled to open in 2019, are working to construct more office buildings. The hotel will be located in floors 9 to 13 in Shibuya Stream Excel with 177 rooms.

The hotel’s concept is ‘The Shibuya Sensibility,’ which looks to stimulate sensibility from Shibuya to the people of the world. The 4th floor area will be home to the lobby lounge, a restaurant and a bar which are filled with a causal vibe. The brand new guest rooms are fitted with an original ‘vintage modern’ design and have excellent functionality to stimulate the sensibility of people from Japan and those coming from overseas, as well as creative workers gathered in Shibuya. It aims to be a door to the unexpected to excite people.

Let us watch over the future development of Shibuya’s new culture with Tokyu Group, who are looking to Shibuya as an “Entertainment City.”

  • Explore the photogenic interior of purikura specialist shop “moreru mignon” in Shibuya!

    13.September.2017 | FASHION / SPOT

    “A world of cute photos in one shop” – this is the main concept of “moreru mignon”; a shop where you can enjoy good quality services such as the photo sticker printing machine. A moreru mignon has just opened on the 7th floor of SHIBUYA 109!

    Sweets artist KUNIKA produced the interior design of the shop. Just some of the main focuses of the store include the enormous cake sofa, the large dome canopy, the cute sweets bathroom, and much more! This peculiar world of sweets portrays “a country of confectionary”.

    Moreru mignon’s opening commemoration campaign was launched on Saturday 9th September and is still ongoing! Now you can get your hands on some photogenic lollipop candy or ANNA SUI makeup product samples (foundation and puff set).

    Let’s take a walk around moreru mignon ♡

    <Chocolate makeup space>

    You can even borrow hair straighteners here!

    <Sweets bathroom>

    Get in the tub and take a picture!

    <Sweets Photo Studio>

    Enter the space of the magic mirror, which produces a scenery that repeats over and over again with a fantastical effect just like a kaleidoscope.

    <Donuts area>

    Minty green donuts all around!
    Sit on one or peak through the hole – there are so many poses you can make for the perfect picture!

    ▼ A comment from KUNIKA

    A dreamy wonderland of sweets – I wanted to make it a reality! This world is packed to the brim, including a large castle cake sofa, a chocolate makeup room, large donuts and parfait, and so much more! From the floor to the ceiling, the room is filled with colour. This is a world that nobody has ever seen before. Let go of reality and enter a new dimension.

    Spin around 360 degrees - everywhere you look is a perfect spot to take a photo! My top recommendation is the large cake sofa because of its large impact. Please take a seat and take a picture! In addition, there are so many mirrors everywhere – from the walls to the ceiling. Taking a picture of a reflection makes for a very interesting experience! From one photo point, there are an endless number of ways to take a picture. I want everyone to experiment with a range of angles and make their own unique photos!

    A picture of this place would make for an amazing Facebook, Twitter or Instagram post! Make sure yous nap some purikura photos and commemorate!

  • Hoshinoya Tokyo to Offer New Year’s Kabuki Plan Inspired by Edo Period Theater Teahouse

    08.January.2023 | SPOT

    Hoshinoya Tokyo, a traditional ryokan in Otemachi, has announced the New Year’s Kabuki Plan, a two-day, one-night stay from January 5 until January 7, 2023. During the Edo Period, citizens enjoyed watching Kabuki plays during the New Year’s holidays, often sipping tea at connected teahouses. This event will invite visitors to experience what this was like, complete with traditional food and decorations.   Watching Kabuki was a chic way for those in Edo to ring in the new year. Theater teahouses were also a popular gathering place–along with arranging tickets, the teahouses offered plot notes, tea, sweets, boxed lunches, snacks, and other drinks.**Hiroshi Fujita, Yoshihide Tomizawa (2012) / The Updated Kabuki Dictionary, Kashiwa Shobo

    Relax Before Enjoying Tea and a Play

    Guests are invited to relax in the Ochanoma (Living Room) Lounge, decorated to look like a traditional teahouse with fans, ukiyo-e prints, and formal curtains. Hanabiramochi, or rice cakes with flower petals, will be served with green tea. These rice cakes are said to date back to the New Year’s tradition of eating hard foods like daikon and rice cakes in the hopes of prolonging one’s life. Characterized by its curious burdock root aroma, the cakes are sweetened with white miso bean paste.

    Enjoy a Post-Viewing Mont Blanc Shaped like Soba with Sweet Dessert Wine

    At theater teahouses in the Edo period, sake, snacks, and desserts were served one after another. During this special event, a menu inspired by this practice and prepared by Hoshinoya Tokyo Executive Chef Noriyuki Hamada will be served! Soba noodles were often served after a play in the past. Inspired by this tradition, Mont Blanc made with chestnut paste and sponge cake will be served up to look like this popular dish. Paired with a dessert wine aged in oak barrels, the sweet will be served in a traditional lacquerware basket. In addition, the dish will be paired with Wasabi Pralines, Shichimi Meringue, and Ginger Pate de Fruits.

    Take a Rickshaw to the Kabuki-za Theater

    Guests will be taken on an Edo-style tour on their way to the Kabuki-za Theater. Passing through the Nihonbashi area, the first stop will be the Fukutoku Shrine. It’s said that Hidetada Tokugawa paid a visit to and praised the shrine on New Year’s Day in 1614. The next shrine on the docket, Hodo Inari Jinja, was enshrined in Edo Castle during the Edo period to protect the heir to the Tokugawa family. It’s said that the shrine provides blessings for child rearing, matchmaking, and business prosperity.

    This tour will provide a more elegant way to explore Tokyo as guests enjoy exposition from their chauffeur. To make the rickshaw ride even more enjoyable, guests can rent kimonos for an extra charge.
