Miffy Creator Dick Bruna to Receive Exhibition at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

16.August.2018 | SPOT

Dutch Bruna, the famous Dutch author, illustrator and graphic designer known for creating the picture book series Miffy is getting his own exhibition at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse titled “The Secret of Simplicity: Duck Bruna’s Design” which will run from August 18 to September 3.

Bruna’s most recognised illustrations are those in the Zwarte Beertjes, or ‘little black bears’ series of paperbacks. He is noted for his characteristic simple style which sees him chipping off any unnecessary parts while lacing his designs with his heart and unique humour.

The exhibition will showcase close to 500 pieces from Dick Bruna including his 200+ paperbacks, around 40 original illustrations, sketches, as well as reproductions of original Miffy and Boris drawings.

There will also be new works by up-and-coming artists in the Japanese design scene including those from KIGI, groovisions, Norio Nakamura and Mint Designs, all of whom have taken inspiration from Bruna. Their works will cover a range of genres including graphic design, product design and fashion. You will get to enjoy the appeal of what exactly makes these works simple.

Summer will be over soon, so head on over to Yokohama and experience the world of Dick Bruna.
