    11.June.2019 | FOOD

Kofukudo has been selling delicious and elegant Japanese sweets for over 140 years. From June 14, they will release a new season-limited flavour of their popular *daifuku. The season-limited sweet will be called Sakuranbo Daifuku. (Cherry Daifuku).   *Daifuku is a type of round, sweet mochi dough that is traditionally filled with a sweet filling such as red bean paste.

Cherry Daifuku: ¥270 each (after tax)

These daifuku are made using the seasonal Sato Nishiki cherries which are at their peak harvest time in June. This means that this is the only season where you can truly enjoy the beautiful flavour of this cherry. After extensive trial and error, a wonderfully balanced daifuku was created. The white bean jam has a mild sweet scent of cherry. Paying the slightest attention to detail, the sweet was carefully crafted in order to fully extract the fresh and juicy flavour of the cherries whilst preserving their high quality sweetness. A cherry casually sits on top of the white mochi of the daifuku. You just won't be able to resist taking pictures of this cute treat.    This is perfect to set out on the dining table at a party. These seasonal sweet treats would also make the perfect gift when visiting a friend.   Take a light bite of luxurious daifuku to experience the best of traditional Japanese sweets.

  • Mogu Mogu Nippon | Convenience Store: Häagen-Dazs Mini Cup Houjicha Latte Ice Cream

    19.June.2019 | FEATURES / FOOD

This is the first article of a new series here on MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON we are calling Mogu Mogu Nippon ("Gobbling Japan").   It's no secret that we here at MMN love eating. At any time of the day someone in the office is eating or drinking something. We have a particular weakness for new products and limited edition seasonal items that are released here in Japan. From time to time, someone will buy something and share it amongst everyone!   In Mogu Mogu Nippon, we will showcase a selection of food, sweets and more that we want to recommend to you―our readers. For this first entry, we are heading to the convenience store to review the Häagen-Dazs Mini Cup Houjicha Latte.   Here in Japan, Häagen-Dazs regularly scoops out a variety of limited edition ice cream flavours, many of which are tea flavoured.   The one we recommend is their Houjicha Latte. This flavour was first released back in 2017 and has gone on to become hugely popular. Demand for this limited edition product to return has been huge (and I'm one of those people!). If you love tea, especially Japanese tea, then you'll find this one irresistible.   Matcha and matcha flavoured products are enjoying a boom around the world today. Like matcha, there are a lot of houjicha items sold here in Japan. The Houjicha Latte Häagen-Dazs ice cream is on sale right now for a limited time. I ate mine during snack time.   Upon opening the lid you are met with a spiralling marble-like pattern in your ice cream which are two different types of houjicha. The ice cream is rich and has a full-bodied milk flavour. This is coupled with the fragrance and delicious taste of the tea making for a seriously refreshing ice cream. The balance between the flavours is perfect, so you get richness but your taste buds are also left feeling refreshed.   The ice cream isn't overly sweet and has just the right amount of bitterness from the houjicha. The sweetness of the milk fills your mouth and harmonises it all.   We recommend the Häagen-Dazs Mini Cup Houjicha Latte to those looking to eat a dessert made in Japan. You can pick up a cup at most convenience stores across the country, so be sure to give it a try if you're here for summer, especially if you've never tried houjicha sweets or desserts before!
  • Treat Yourself To Some Afternoon Teatime In Tokyo

    19.June.2019 | FEATURES / FOOD

Hello, my name is Banako and I am a MOSHI MOSHI Friend!Today I'm going to introduce you to a café called Chansonnier Acorite, which is located close to Mejiro Station; an area bustling with life. Just a minute walk from the station and you will be surrounded by European interior decor and utensils, and gorgeous cakes that are the talk of the town!To get there, exit the station, turn left and go down the stairs and you will immediately find it.   I ordered the cake set that even allows you to choose your own plate. (¥1,280) This set comes with one cake of your choice and a drink. Don't forget to choose your own plate! It was so hard to choose from these beautiful plates, yet having a choice definitely sparked delight. These plates were specially selected and have been imported all the way from Europe. You can see the delicious cakes through the showcase. From there, you can choose which one you want. The cakes vary depending on the season and time of day. I ordered the most popular cake and drink combination; the Rose Chiffon Cake and a Hot Tea.   The Rose Chiffon Cake looked beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. The fluffy sponge cake was topped with some moderately sweet cream and faintly fragranced rose petals.   This could be easily consumed by anyone ー even those who don't really like sweet desserts. This place is full of fun little details, such as the cute teacup that matched the plate I chose and the unique and playful design of the teapot. After finishing the delicious meal, I had kiwi and strawberry tea. It had a refreshing yet slightly sour taste and was very easy to finish.Besides cakes, there is also a breakfast menu, and a beef stew set menu of which only 20 meals are served per day. Recently, the café has been creating original collaboration menus by cooperating with models and illustrators.   This place is both close to the station and is loved by many regular customers. If you are looking for comfortable spot where you can relax for hours, look no further.    Come heal yourself and relax with some delicious afternoon tea at Chansonnier Acorite.
