Cute Mercedes-Benz Collection Polar Bear Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Selling at Haneda Airport

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan released their Mercedes me Tokyo HANEDA-limited Polar Bear Mango doughnut on July 1, 2019. This original doughnut features the popular bear character from the Mercedes-Benz collection as a motif. The doughnut contains mango flavoured cream and is coated with milky white chocolate. As you can see, the doughnut looks like a polar bear. 

 

Polar Bear Mango: ¥300 (before tax )

The doughnut is decorated with white chocolate ears and the face is drawn on with mint and bitter chocolate. This doughnut, which is only available for a limited-time only, has a fresh, tropical taste. The white and sky-coloured theme is refreshing to look at, not to mention perfect for those summer vibes. 

 

Mercedes me Tokyo HANEDA is different to your regular Krispy Kreme Japan store. Visit this branch for boxes and cups with store-limited designs. Customers who eat in are served their their doughnuts on an original design plate. Drinks are also served in original mugs and glasses. For those who decide to take out, there are original boxes designs for three and six doughnuts.

    With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s easy recipe! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

     

    In this recipe you’ll learn how to make a no-bake cheesecake by simply combining and mixing! This easy recipe can be followed by anyone and can be easily changed into a character cake of your choosing. Chocolate plates are hard to make but if you follow these steps you’ll be able to make your own in no time!

     

     

    Ingredients

    200g cream cheese

    200g fresh cream

    70g sugar

    1 tbsp lemon juice

    10g gelatin

    20 crackers (I used Ritz crackers)

    50g unsalted butter

     

    Preparation

    ・Add 5 tbsp water into the gelatin. Head it in the microwave for 40 seconds before combining with the cream cheese.

    ・Melt the unsalted butter in the microwave

    ・Let the cream cheese come to room temperature and then wrap the bowl in cling film before leaving to soften in the microwave.

     

    1.

    ①Blitz 10 crackers in a food processor and then pour in your melted unsalted butter. Add the other 10 crackers and blitz again.

    Add the mix into a cake tin. Wrap a potato masher in cling film like the photo below and press the mix.

    *By pressing multiple times with force at this stage it will prevent the biscuit from breaking later when the cake is cooked.

    2.

    ①Blitz the cream cheese and sugar in the food processor to combine.

    ②Transfer the combined cream cheese and sugar into a bowl and add the lemon juice, fresh cream and the microwaved gelatin.

    ③Once fully mixed pour it on top of your cracker in the cake tin. Put into the refrigerator to fully cool and solidify. Your no-bake cheesecake is done!

    Next we need to draw Hello Kitty’s face. I made a video so check that out below too.

     

    1: Get a picture of Hello Kitty (or character of your choice) and affix see-through baking paper on top with sellotape.

     

    2: Trace the lines of the picture with a chocolate pen that has been warmed.

    *The fatter your lines the less likely it is to break when you put it on the cake.

     

    3: Once you’ve finished drawing, place it into the refrigerator to harden. Once both the cheesecake and chocolate have cooled you can begin decorating.

     

    4: Place the hardened chocolate on top of the cheesecake.

    *Don’t worry if your chocolate breaks a little when putting it on top. You can join the broken lines back up once you’ve placed it on so nobody will know.

     

    5: Once the framework is on add the eyes and nose making sure to check the sizes and balance. Finally, fill in the ribbon and clothing with either strawberry sauce or strawberry jam that has been mixed with a bit of water.

  • Toy Story Alien Themed Ice Cream Cake Arrives at Baskin-Robbins in Japan

    Baskin-Robbins Japan has unveiled its new ice cream cake based on the aliens that appear in the Toy Story franchise which it will begin serving on July 1.

     

    Also known as the Little Green Men, the aliens first appear in the claw machine located inside Pizza Planet. These iconic characters are loved for their cute appearance and speech pattern.

    The three large eyes, head and ears of these adorable cake are all made from chocolate. The mouth, which is shaped in such a way as if the alien is about to start talking about ‘The Claw,’ is made from chocolate whipped cream. The trademark uniform too is made from chocolate.

     

    The cake is served on a colourful mat with illustrations of space, rocks and Buzz.

    The cake is filled with popping candy and chocolate chips too. If you loved Toy Story 4, why not celebrate the end of the film series by sinking your claws into the adorable new alien cake from Baskin-Robbins?

  • Krispy Kreme Japan Releases 2 New Premium Doughnuts in Nagoya

    Two new doughnuts in the Krispy Kreme Premium series were released at the JR Nagoya Takashimiya branch of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on June 5. Available for a limited time only, the new release includes the White Bear and Peach doughnuts.

     

    The Krispy Kreme Premium series is sold only at this branch of Krispy Kreme. Made with much time and effort, they are cake-like in their form and texture and are filled lavishly with delicious ingredients such as whipped cream.

    The Krispy Kreme Premium Shirokuma white bear doughnut is an image of summertime fun. This cute delight is a ring doughnut coated with white chocolate and glazed with sweet and sour lemon sauce. It’s also filled with whipped cream and pineapple jam for a super rich and tropical combination.


    The Krispy Kreme Premium Peach doughnut is a coating of refreshing peach nappage and white chocolate. This doughnut is unique however as it’s cut like a sandwich and filled with fluffy whipped cream. It’s topped with gold leaf and star-shaped chocolate for a glittery summer night sky look.

     

    Those passing through Nagoya this summer won’t want to miss out on these limited-time special doughnuts.

  • This Week’s Dessert: Indulging in a Seasonal Parfait at Kinoshita Chaen in Ise

    One thing I do at least once a week without fail is treat myself out to some delicious food or dessert. I find it very important time well spent in order to live a happy, fulfilling life.

     

    This week, a business trip took me out of Tokyo to the city of Ise in Mie Prefecture. When the trip was over, I had some spare time to kill before my train arrived, so I went inside a cafe called Kinoshita Chaen which is close to Ise Grand Shrine.

    You can arrive at Kinoshita Chaen in just three minutes on foot is walking from Ise Grand Shrine, or five mintues from Ise Station. The exterior design of the building takes on a Western style, which I found to be both cute and retro. You can feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the cafe as soon as you step inside. The decor is decked out with all things wooden.

    The cafe has been around since the Meiji Period. It serves drinks and desserts all made using tea, and offers both eat-in and takeout services.

     

    I ordered their seasonal-exclusive parfait. 90% of the people in there were ordering it, so I thought it must be popular!

    Strawberry & Parfait Puree Parfait w/ Japanese Black Tea – ¥1,300 (Tax Included)

    This super cute parfait is completely stuffed to the top with strawberries♡

    You can snap cute photos of it no matter the angle♡

    When I spooned the caramel puree, soft custard reveal itself. You get a delicious pairing of the bitter flavour and crunchy texture of the caramel with the subtly sweet custard.

     

    The next ingredient to show itself was the mascarpone cream, which combines with the rest of the flavours perfectly. Once your mouth is satisfied with the sweetness of the flavour combinations, you’re next met with Ise matcha gelato.

    The matcha gelato is a great palate cleanser for the sweet ingredients when eaten on its own. When eaten together with the sweet puree, you get a completely different kind of delicious flavour. I recommend trying it together with the puree, mascarpone cream, and the crunchy pie which is the next layer.

     

    Moving on from the sweetness and bitterness, the next layer is fresh strawberry sherbet, which is a combination of sweet and sour. To finish, you’re brought back to the subtle sweetness once more with white chocolate mousse, strawberries, and mixed berry jelly.

     

    The final bites of a parfait can generally be hard to get down because you grow tired of the flavour, but the ones sold at Kinoshita Chaen are on another level. The various flavours and textures mean you won’t grow tired as you spoon through the many layersーyou’ll find yourself savouring every last bite.

    The Japanese black tea that came with it was luxurious. The cafe actually caters the type of tea they serve to each seasonal parfait. Enjoy a cup together with your parfait.

    Matcha Soy Flour Dumpling Cream – ¥830

    I didn’t get to order them this time, but I’m really taken by the matcha soy flour shiratama dumplings… The dumplings are made in-house and are topped with brown sugar syrup from Okinawa and Ise matcha. The bitterness of the matcha together with the rich sugar syrup is sure to be delicious with some chewy dumplings. I’ll definitely be trying them when I next visit.

     

    I cannot recommend a trip to Kinoshita Chaen enough. Offering an exemplary menu of Ise flavours, their drinks and sweets maintain the culture and tradition of Japanese tea while keeping up to date with current trends in the world of sweets.

    When it comes to recommending things to do when travelling to Japan, one of the biggest attractions for tourists is the country’s “onsen,” or hot springs. If you’re landing into Haneda Airport, or happen to be around that area when exploring Tokyo, then we can’t recommend Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima enough.

    Located inside BIG FUN Heiwajima, this hot spring facility commemorated its 30th anniversary last year, and underwent a revamp before reopening on March 28, 2019. There actually aren’t that many large-scale hot spring spots in Tokyo, so to have one so close to Haneda Airport makes it the perfect location for your sightseeing and must-visit agenda.

    A shuttle bus runs directly from Haneda Airport to Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima which takes just 15-minutes and can be boarded in the early morning and late at night. Additionally, the hot spring facility is also equipped with suitcase lockers if you have heavy luggage with you. It also has a lounge you can relax in, and the entire building has free Wi-Fi. Hotel check-ins are generally from 15:00. If you arrive early in the morning, you can take a dip and relax in a nice warm onsen to unwind before heading to your hotel.

    You can enter the hot springs with a tattoo seal

    When going to an onsen in Japan, many places forbid entering if you have a tattoo, no matter how small. Some places let you cover them up before entering, and Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima is one of those places. You can purchase a tattoo seal for ¥200 (10cm x 15cm) to cover your tattoo, and then you’re free to enter and enjoy your toasty bathe.

    Heiwajima Hot Springs is one of the largest hot spring facilities in Tokyo, with 150 tons of hot spring water bubbling up from 2000 meters underground every day. The water leaves your skin smooth and moisturised.

     

    Experience the spacious Viewing Spa (6:00 am – 2:30 am the following day)

    The Viewing Spa is open late until 2:30am everyday, where guests can plunge themselves into the thermal water bath or sit in the hot stone bath. We recommend the stone bath for those who aren’t good with super hot saunas as it’s set at a comfortable temperature. There is also a highly-carbonated bath which helps open small blood vessels and promotes good blood flow which helps boost metabolism. Carbonated water is also said to beauty the skin and restore moisture.

     

    Enjoy a variety of baths at the Shining Spa (9:30 am – 6:00 am the following day)

    The Shining Spa is home to a variety of different baths including a hydro-jet Jacuzzi-style, reclining-style, and more. The one I personally enjoyed the most was the Micro Bubble Togoal Bath which wraps your body in delicate bubbles and smooth-like hot water. You feel really refreshed afterwards.

     

    Get comfy in one of the relaxation areas

    Natural Hot Spring Heiwajima offers plenty of relaxation spaces after your bath, including a restaurant, a lounge with a TV and reclining chairs, and more. They even give you a towel blanket in the lounge, so I ended up dozing off. There’s a female-only lounge space too.

    Kurasukoto is another relaxing cafe, decked out with wooden tables and shelves. They also sell a range of miscellaneous items in addition to the food menu too, like clothes and accessories. Their strawberry parfait was incredibly popular last year, and is back again this year. It’s loaded with handmade fresh cream and custard which sits on a pile juicy jam made from fresh strawberries. The top layer is subtly sweet while the bottom is sweet and sour. Combined, they make the ultimate balance of flavours.

    DAIMYO SOFT CREAM is an incredibly popular ice cream shop which sells around 10,000 ice creams a day. During the daytime, there are lines of people waiting outside for a scoop. It’s close to Hakata Station so is easy to get to.
    Their ice cream is really soft and rich, and the flavours change with each passing season. They have an eat-in space too if you want to sit and relax to enjoy your cone.

    Pinsirio’s parfaits get you excited by just looking at them. Their parfaits are made with fresh in-season fruits. The cafe has an open kitchen, so you can enjoy watching your parfait being made.
    The “Strawberry Forest” is served in a glass and absolutely overflows with strawberries. Every mouthful down to the last bite is strawberry flavoured. The rich taste of the salted butter sable cookies and the light sourness of the cheesecake are to die for too.

    yorimichi | Kasuya

    Shrimp & Egg / Strawberry Chocolate Chip
    yorimichi is famous for being a bakery with a unique custom where customers must take their shoes off to enter. It’s customary in Japan to take your shoes off when entering someone’s home, as well as in certain restaurants and izakaya, but it’s pretty much unheard of for a bakery.
    The bakery makes a limited batch of 600 breads a day, meaning that most of the time they sell out their stock by evening time. The strawberry chocolate chip bread is filled with a homemade chocolate chip cream which is a match made in heaven when paired with the sweet strawberries. Try eating it together with one of the savoury sandwiches for a real treat.

  • Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea in Japan: Hotel Chinzaso Tokyo’s Beautiful Floral Menu

    Spring is set to blossom early at Hotel Chinzaso Tokyo, where they will begin serving their “Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea” at Le Jardin, a lobby lounge, from February 17. Three new cherry blossom sweets will also be sold for the spring season only from March 1 at the hotel’s Pastry & Cheese Shop, which bakes up fresh bread, cheese, desserts, and more.

    Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea

    The Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea returns to Hotel Chizanso Tokyo after its huge reception last year. This cute pink assortment is stacked high with cherry blossom flavours and seasonal ingredients.

    On the top plate is a collection of four pink and white desserts. This includes some tempting macarons which are filled with a cherry blossom ganache. The macarons themselves are vanilla flavoured, packed with cherry blossom cream, and have prints of delicate cherry blossom flowers on them.

    On the middle tier are crunchy pie sandwiches filled with a cream cheese that is laced with cherry blossom leaves, while the bottom tier is an assortment that includes refreshing shrimp, grapefruit and asparagus sandwiches, and more.

    Cherry Blossom Roll Cake

    Baked fresh in the Pastry & Cheese Shop are these incredible cherry blossom roll cakes that look almost ornamental. They are part of the “Seasonal Cake ~SAKURA~” series of three desserts being sold at the shop for a limited time. The roll cakes are stuffed with fresh cream which is filled with black beans and cherry blossom paste. They are also finished with a little salt. This is an absolute must-eat during spring in Japan this year, a treat that reminds one of the cherry blossoms during the Hanami (flower-viewing) season.

    The second dessert is the cute checked Cherry Blossom Cube, a pink and white sponge laced with strawberry and cherry blossom syrup. The butter cream is also made with cherry blossom, and the whole thing is topped with almond and white chocolate.

    Cherry Blossom & Pistachio Panna Cotta

    Finally, we have the white vanilla and cherry blossom panna cotta which is made with a rich pistachio bavarois and cherry blossom jelly. It’s topped with a pickled cherry blossom bud, and the bavarois has sliced strawberries on it made to look like petals.

     

    But that’s not all for springtime at  Hotel Chinzaso Tokyo. A walk through their gardens gifts your eyes to a variety of different cherry trees, like the kawazu-zakura and Taiwan cherry, which bloom early, as well as the Yoko cherry, miyabi-zakura, and Yoshino cherry, which blossom between February and April. There are 120 trees to see spanning 20 types of cherry blossom; enjoy them during the early hours when they are basked in the morning light, or at night when they are lit up with beautiful illuminations. And don’t forget the row of cherry trees that line Kandagawa from Edogawabashi Stationーthe closest station to the hotel.

    GINRYU・BonBon BERRY is a revamp of the original shop, GINRYU. Located on the second floor of New Chitose Airport Terminal, the new shop has teamed up with BonBonBERRY, another store right next to Atami Station in Shizuoka Prefecture.

     

    The shop specialises in Tokachi Ginryu strawberries, a variety of strawberry produced in the town of Otofuke. They have a distinct appearance and taste, with their beautiful white inside, low acidity, and high sugar content.

    siretoco doughnuts were created in the town of Nakashibetsu in Hokkaido. The New Chitose Airport Terminal branch is immensely popular for its cute mini animal doughnuts which are steamed instead of being dropped into hot oil, making them a healthier doughnut option.

    The doughnut on the left celebrates 2020 and the Year of the Rat in the Chinese Zodiac. It’s white chocolate and strawberry chocolate flavoured. It’s also not too sweet and has a soft and fluffy texture. The cheese doughnut has a very cheesy flavour indeed. All the animal faces are also made by hand, so each and every one is unique. Both are really cute looking.

    Cafe Owl | Lake Shikotsu

    Handmade Baked Purin – ¥500
    Cafe Owl is situated in Shikotsuko Onsen, a popular tourist spot about a 55-minute transit bus ride from New Chitose Airport. It has a warm atmosphere to it with its log house-like appearance. Their food menu has just two things on it: pizza and purin (Japanese custard pudding). I ordered a purin and cup of coffee as a set.
    The photo doesn’t show how big the purin actually is – it’s like a cake slice. It has a refreshing taste and isn’t overly-sweet so can be chowed down easily.

    Pennennolde | Lake Shikotsu

    Atsuma Honeysuckle Rare Cheese & Cocoa – ¥380 / Walnut Chocolate Ganache – ¥380
    This cafe is also located in Shikotsuko Onsen. Their main meal is muffins, which are served warm inside their very relaxed space. The honeysuckle cheese muffin is thick and sticky, and doesn’t have an unpleasant smell from the cheese. It’s simply delicious. The chocolate ganache too is melted which only adds to the nice texture of the walnuts.
    The muffins can be ordered for takeout too, so you can take them with you to enjoy the local sights.

    Raspberry Chocolate Soft Cream – ¥500
    This cafe is close to Lake Shikotsu. They sell soft serve ice cream from the famous Iwase Farm located in the city of Sunagawa. This flavour is made with rich chocolate ice cream and is topped with freeze-dried raspberries, creating a great balance between the two.
    This small place has its own eat-in area too, so you can kick back and relax while you enjoy the taste of some Hokkaido soft serve ice cream.

    Chocolate Noisette Berry – ¥1,540
    Doremo LeTAO is just a 15-minute walk from Chitose Station. Their “Chocolate Noisette Berry” is packed fully of rich chocolate, nuts, and berries.
    Berry Mascarpone – ¥1,650
    The “Berry Mascarpone” comes with four pancakes drizzled in berry sauce, mascarpone, custard, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream. The pancakes have soft meringue inside them, but are still light to eat, so you can rest assured you won’t have a heavy stomach afterwards.

    Mirtillo | Osatsu

    Mirtillo is a gelato shop on the outskirts of Osatsu in Chitose. It’s a tricky place to reach without a car, but it still stands as an incredibly popular gelato store. They have 16 flavours of gelato including several limited-time options.

    Waffle Parfait – ¥1,000
    I tried their “Waffle Parfait,” which lets you pick from two gelato of your choice along with toppings. The combination of the crunchy waffles with the gelato is delicious. Added together with the blueberry sauce and fruits, you get a variety of tastes and textures.
    The blueberries are actually all grown on site.

    Donut Chaya Honwaka | Eniwa

    Honwaka Cocoa – ¥140 / Autumn Chestnut – ¥220
    Honwaka is a doughnut shop about 1.5km from Eniwa Station. I got to try some of their seasonal autumn flavours: the fluffy and flavourful “Honwaka Cocoa,” and the chestnut and chestnut cream-loaded “Autumn Chestnut.” The chestnut cream is just the right amount of sweetness and has a really delightful chestnut flavour.

  • Creamy Bread Filled With Sweet Amaou Strawberries Appear at Hattendo Cafe in Japan

    Hattendo is released a new flavour in its popular “Cream Bread” series last week that is served with Japanese Amaou strawberries. You’ll find them at the following Hattendo branches: ekimo Umeda, ekimo Tennoji, JR Sannomiya Station, Aeon Mall Okayama, and Sun Station Okayama.

     

    The breads are made from a combination of custard cream which is cooked up everyday in-store, and a simple fresh cream, creating a smooth texture that just melts in your mouth. They come in five flavours: Custard, Fresh Cream & Custard, Chocolate, Matcha, and Adzuki.

     

    Unlike regular Japanese cream bread, where the bread is baked after inserting the cream, the cream of this cream bread is injected inside after the bread is cooked like a cream puff dessert. It’s also left to set in the refrigerator to make the cream even more melt-in-the-mouth and to firm up the bread. The best way to describe it is to say that it’s like you’re eating cream, rather than eating bread. From the first bite, the cream fills your mouth with its refreshing taste and velvety texture.

    The bread is also filled with sweet and sour a jam made from sweet Amaou strawberries, a brand from Fukuoka Prefecture, which mixes deliciously with the soft cream. The jam is made by Hattendo and has a very juicy and refreshing strawberry flavour.
