Jump Into the World Of Pixar with Tokyo DisneySea’s Pixar Playtime Event Coming Winter 2020

Tokyo DisneySea has announced that it will hold a special event next year titled “Pixar Playtime” from January 10 to March 19. The event will plunge guests into the world of Disney•Pixar animated films.

The exciting “Pixar Playtime Pals” stage show is returning again for Pixar Playtime 2020. Guests will be invited to join in with familiar faces from the Pixar character cast for the show, which will take place at Mediterranean Harbor. Bo Peep from Toy Story 4 will make her first-ever appearance. At the end of the show, an entire band of characters will take to the stage for a grand finale with colourful balloons and decorations.

Head over to American Waterfront to catch the one and only Lightning McQueen from the Cars film series who will be rolling his way to greet the crowd. Guests are encouraged to join in with the Lightning McQueen Victory Lap where they will parade around the New York area along to jubilant music.

There will also be a Ratatouille stall where you can have fun cooking together with Remy.

Horizon Bay Restaurant is serving up around 20 exciting dishes based on the Pixar cast, including an ocean-themed hamburger inspired by Finding Nemo and a roll cake based on the lovable Dory.

If you love Monsters Inc., then you’ll want to dine at Vulcania Restaurant where you can get your teeth into a custard-filled Mike Wazowski steamed bun.

There are countless Pixar-inspired foods, drinks and desserts to look forward to at this year’s Pixar Playtime, and that includes plenty of never before seen options.

Scattered around all areas of the park you will find instantly-recognisable Disney•Pixar decorations, including the iconic Pixar Ball, as well as photo spots based on the Finding NemoThe Incredibles and Coco film series’.

Decorations Forky from Toy Story 4 will also be making an appearance around the park.

If it’s merchandise you want, you have over 100 items to choose from, such as the Pixar ball-themed smartphone case, headband and jumper; the Lightning McQueen Victory Lap series including the plush toy, flag, sun visor and more; and plenty of other exciting goodies.

     New Indoor Theatre: Fantasyland Forest Theatre

    This is the first ever full-scale indoor theatre to ever be built at Disneyland and it will reside in Fantasyland. The theme of the theatre is travelling the wonderful world of music with your favourite Disney characters. The live performances to take place on the stage will be undoubtedly dynamic and intense. 

    Minnie Mouse Meet and Greet Facility: Minnie’s Style Studio

  • Hello Kitty Launches #HelloGlobalGoals Project With the United Nations

    Sanrio launched its #HelloGlobalGoals (#HelloSDGs) co-project with the United Nations at the UN headquarters on September 24 which sees their popular character Hello Kitty helping to spread the words about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 to be reached by the year 2030. This includes “No Poverty,” “Zero Hunger,” “Climate Action” and so on.

     

    Since September last year, Hello Kitty has been helping to promote SDGs on her YouTube channel as part of Japan’s involvement in the global efforts. The UN recognised this, and had Hello Kitty join them at the headquarters in New York at the SDG Media Zone presentation, which was attended by people around the world, where they announced #HelloGlobalGoals.

    Hello Kitty dressed up in the SDG promotional colours and appeared alongside Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, who expressed her wish for more people around the world to come to learn about SDGs, as well as to create a world where everybody can get along harmoniously and with kindness.

    At the event, all 17 goals were showcased on a huge art piece featuring Hello Kitty to break the project down and make it easier for people to understand.

    Up to now, Hello Kitty has posted videos about what Japan has been doing for the SDGs on her channel, but now she will begin posting about countries around the world at the behest of Amina Mohammed in a new video series as shown above.

    Hello Kitty’s dress for the #HelloGlobalGoals is rainbow-coloured, representing each of the goals. This is the dress she will wear for her forthcoming SDG promotional activities.

  • Tobu Zoo Winter Illuminations 2019-2020: A Fusion Of Lights & Music

    Tobu Zoo is set to turn on 3 million LED lights for its winter illumination event that will run from October 26 to February 11 next year.

    Tobu Zoo has lots of surprises lined up for this year’s event, including an illumination installation made in collaboration with male Japanese singer Amatsuki, which will bring together lights and music. This will include a giant LED display showing music videos from Amatsuki in addition to exclusive and original videos, a 50 meter long light tunnel with Amatsuki-inspired decorations and his music playing, and more. Full details are to be announced in the coming weeks.

    “Illumination Show” Giant LED Display (Location: In front of Heartful Garden)

    The “Illumination Show” will make use of the biggest LED display in Japan’s Kanto region, combining music with CG visuals, and illuminated decorations will twinkle in front of it. This year, the display will also feature new full-colour lasers. Three magical and dynamic shows will light up the area, including the Amatsuki Live Illumination show.

    Heartful Garden (Location: Heartful Garden)

    The zoo’s Heartful Garden spans 8,000 m², and it’s here that bright and beautiful flower topiary installations will be set up.

    Theatrical Projection Mapping (Location: Tobu Zoo HOLA! Event Stage) *Running from November 30, 2019

    The zoo’s 1,300 capacity event stage HOLA! will make use of breathtaking ‘theatrical projection mapping’ which will be projected onto the stage and the ceiling

     

    The theme of this year’s projection mapping event is an animal musical which will serve up an incredible entertainment show for the audience. Various animals will make an appearance in the form of projection mapping to tell a story with dance and music.

    Cherry Blossom Illuminations (Location: East Gate, Swan Pond)

    Gorgeous cherry blossom-coloured lights will be strung on the Yoshino cherry trees lining the Swan Pond, creating a pink panorama right before your eyes.

    Amusement Park Illuminations (Location: Around the amusement park)

    Lights will also twinkle around the attractions in the amusement park, creating a different atmosphere than daytime, and there will also be various photo areas themed on fairy tale worlds including Cinderella, Princess Kaguya, The Little Mermaid and more.

    Enjoy a romantic evening with the warm, cosy lights at Tobu Zoo.

    The park is limiting the number of people allowed on the attraction at once due to the pandemic. To board the attraction, guests need to download the app after entering the park.

     

    Big Pop: Tokyo Disneyland’s first popcorn shop

    Tokyo Disneyland’s first permanent popcorn shop opens in Tomorrowland.

    This space-themed shop serves up a whole range of flavours like cookie cream, caramel and cheese, and strawberry milk. There’s also four different popcorn baskets to choose form, including Big Hero 6 and Beauty and the Beast designs.

     

    Minnie’s Style Studio: Meet Minnie Mouse

    This studio imagines Minnie Mouse as an international fashion designer who designs outfits, shoots photos, and more. Guests can meet Minnie Mouse at her studio if they book in advance.

    The world of Beauty and the Beast brought to life

    The area connects Belle’s village to Beast’s castle by way of the forest. At the entrance to the village, guests will immediately spot the cottage of Maurine, Belle’s father and the vilage inventor. Beyond that is Gaston’s water fountain as well as a restaurant inspired by Gaston’s bar. There are also other shops that Belle visits in the film, such as the bookshop. It’s like stepping into the magical world itself.

    When you leave the village and head through the forest, you are met by the spectacle that is Beast’s castle, coloured in a cute pink. There’s a large-scale attraction inside called “Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.”

    The attraction, located inside the towering 30m-tall castle, features magical cups that guests board. The cups dance in rhythm to music from the film as they take guests through iconic moments seen in the Disney classic.

    There are many surprises and discoveries to be found inside the castle.

    The park is limiting the number of people allowed on the attraction at once due to the pandemic. To board the attraction, guests need to download the app after entering the park.

     

    Village shops based on the movie

    The Village Shops area features a line of shops inspired by those seen in Belle’s town, each of which sells various items from clothing to accessories and souvenirs.

    There are around 100 pieces of merchandise for fans to sift through.

    The shops are also carrying out measures against COVID-19, showcasing the items in a display only so they cannot be touched when entering the store. Guests must use the sign-up system on the app beforehand if they want to enter the shop.

    All the little details have been captured to recreate Gaston’s bar, making it like a snippet right out of the film.

    The menu features a line-up dishes, drinks, and desserts, like sausage croissants with, French toasted cheese sandwiches, soft drinks made to look like beer, and more. The bar also requires booking on the app prior to visiting.

  • Mickey Mouse Exhibition ‘THE TRUE ORIGINAL & BEYOND’ to be Held in Roppongi

    The Asahi Shimbun and Nippon TV are set to host an exhibition centred on Mickey Mouse at the MORI ARTS CENTER GALLERY in Roppongi, Tokyo, from October 30, 2020 to January 11, 2021, in celebration of 90 years since Mickey Mouse’s screen debut. The exhibition will showcase works shown at the Mickey: The True Original Exhibition held in New York in 2018-2019.

     

    Walt Disney’s concepts and ideas are formed around innovation, creativity, imagination, and storytelling. And one character who walked that journey with him and continues to this day is none other than the iconic Mickey Mouse, who since making his first appearance in Steamboat Willie in 1928, has gone on to be a symbol of the Walt Disney Company loved by people the world over.

    Mickey: The True Original Exhibition in New York

    The Mickey: The True Original Exhibition held in New York looked at how Mickey Mouse has influenced art and pop culture over the years, covering everything from Steamboat Willie which hailed as Walt Disney’s first black and white sound film to over 100 colour short animations, artwork, and more.

  • Review: Meeting Pixar Characters in Japan at PIXAR FEST in Omotesando

    OH MY CAFE, a chain of cafes in Japan, is now running a special Pixar-themed food event called ‘PIXAR FEST’ which will run in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.

    “Keep On Smiling” is the the concept of the event, which will serve up a whole range of different foods including a Lightning McQueen exclusive on September 5, a special drink inspired by Disney Pixar’s Onward which released earlier this year, a collection of strawberry desserts centred on Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear to celebrate Toy Story’s 25th anniversary, and more. There’s lots to see, so we follow MIOCHIN to the Tokyo event in Omotesando.

     

    PIXAR FEST at OH MY CAFE is packed full of exciting things for both kids and adults alike. Here’s our report.

    The fun begins even before you enter the cafe, as at the entrance, you are met with a wall poster of numerous popular Pixar characters.

    The moment you step inside, Sully is there ready to greet you! You can even take a picture with him, so if you visit, don’t miss the chance.

    You’ll find familiar faces scattered all around the cafe, like Woody, Buzz, Mike, Nemo. The decorations and designs are really wonderful.

    The original menu has a cute lineup too, with dishes, drinks, and desserts inspired by characters from the animated movies.

    The food tastes really good too, so be sure to pick out a menu item based on your favourite movie.

    Until October 9, you can order the special Onward and Lightning McQueen menu items. This includes ‘Ian & Barley’s Pink Sunset Blue Mallow Tea’ and ‘Lightning McQueen’s Kachow Lightning Hamburger Sandwich.’ You can see the full menu lineup here. It makes you want to watch Pixar movies all day then grab some Pixar food!

    Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear from Toy Story 3 will have his own special menu items too: the ‘Lots-o’s Strawberry Chicken Hamburger’ and ‘Lots-o’-s Strawberry Drink.’ These will be served from October 10 to November 24.

    The cafe has its own collection of PIXAR FEST merchandise in three different types: the “PIXAR FEST Series” which uses the cafe’s main visual for its design, the “Vintage Series” which uses a cute purple, and the “Alien Mix” which has a pop design with the Little Green Men from Toy Story.

     

    Customers can also receive a limited-edition OH MY CAFE sticker if they order something from the menu, buy some merchandise, and post their thoughts about the cafe and their items on Twitter with the hashtags #キャンペーン #PIXAR FESTカフェで最高の思い出を作ろう #OHMYCAFE.   • Japan’s Pixar Bullet Train Project ‘GO! WAKU WAKU ADVENTURE with Pixar’ Details Announced

    JR Kyushu has signed a promotional license agreement with Walt Disney Japan to launch the “GO! WAKU WAKU ADVENTURE with PIXAR” project, which will see the shinkansen bullet trains decorated in characters from the Pixar animated filmography starting on September 12, 2020.

     

    The project comes at a time when Pixar celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original Toy Story film, which released back in 1995 as the first entirely computer-animated feature film.

     

    New details have been released for the upcoming project, including the unveiling of the key visual, the content of the collaboration, campaigns that will be held, and limited-edition merchandise which will be sold.

    The key visual is a colourful Pixar creation which is shaped to look like the seven prefectures that make up Kyushu—Japan’s south-westernmost island where the JR Kyushu WAKU WAKU ADVENTURE Shinkanen bullet train will run.

  • Pixar Animated Film Themed Food to be Served for ‘PIXAR FEST’ in Japan

    OH MY CAFE, a chain of cafes in Japan, has announced a special Pixar-themed food event called ‘PIXAR FEST’ which will run in Tokyo and Osaka from August 28 and Nagoya from September 4.

     

    “Keep On Smiling” is the the concept of the event, which will serve up a whole range of different foods including a Lightning McQueen exclusive on September 5, a special drink inspired by Disney Pixar’s Onward which released earlier this year, a collection of strawberry desserts centred on Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear to celebrate Toy Story‘s 25th anniversary, and more. Let’s take a closer look.

     

    Food

    Pixar Ball Bread: ¥790 / With Plate ¥1,690

    Any fan of Pixar will be able to instantly recognise what this subtly sweet bread is inspired by. You can order it together with a special plate too.

    Ratatouille is a comfort food of southern France, and the one served for PIXAR FEST is of course inspired by the titular film. Sully and Mike also have their own pasta dish, combining a Sully cream cheese paste and Mike guacamole potato salad.

    Mr. Ray’s tortilla sandwich contains garlic chicken and egg salad, while everybody’s favourite toys have sprung out of a whole bread loaf filled with chicken stew.

    Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear will have his own special menu items too. These are available for a limited time only from October 10 to November 24.

    The tire-shaped bread is fitting for Lightning McQueen’s burger. The Onward drink is served with a side of lemon syrup which transforms the the colour of the drink into a gorgeous concoction. These items are available for a limited time only from August 28 to October 9.

    The cafes will sell their own collection of PIXAR FEST merchandise in three different types: the “PIXAR FEST Series” which uses the cafe’s main visual for its design, the “Vintage Series” which uses a cute purple, and the “Alien Mix” which has a pop design with the Little Green Men from Toy Story.

  • Pixar Themed Shinkansen Bullet Trains Speed Through Kyushu This September

    JR Kyushu has signed a promotional license agreement with Walt Disney Japan to launch the “GO! WAKU WAKU ADVENTURE with PIXAR” project, which will see the shinkansen bullet trains decorated in characters from the Pixar animated filmography starting on September 12, 2020.

     

    The project comes at a time when Pixar celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original Toy Story film, which released back in 1995 as the first entirely computer-animated feature film.

     

    The “GO! WAKU WAKU ADVENTURE with PIXAR” project’s story

    The concept behind the project is for passengers using the bullet trains to go off on a new adventure with their favourite Pixar characters to find new and exciting places around Kyushu. The trains are set to run from September 12, 2020 to mid-May 2021.

     

    Completely unique and original Pixar character designs

    The colourful designs that decorate both the inside and outside of the Kyushu shinkansen bullet trains combine Pixar characters with motifs that are a nod towards places around Kyushu.

    The exterior design of the trains feature many familiar faces from Pixar movies—even the iconic Luxo Lamp Jr, or ‘Pixar lamp.’ The inside has colourful head covers with different Pixar characters on them.

    Q-pot. is releasing a new Zootopia themed collection on August 1, 2020 as part of its Disney-inspired accessory line “Disney Story Dreamed by Q-pot.”

    Zootopia is an animated film released by Disney in 2016 which takes place in the titular city where anthropomorphic animals coexist. Q-pot. has created a unique collection in the brand’s style which combines the worlds of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, the two main characters of the film who form an unlikely duo.

    Officially named the “Disney SWEETS COLLECTION by Tokyo Banana,” the line-up brings together the iconic Disney characters and centres them around the company’s brand concept which is to bring happiness to all who see and taste their products.
