Super Mario Bros. Merchandise Collection Up For Grabs in Japan

A new Super Mario Bros. merch line-up is up for grabs in the form of a lottery set to take place at 7-Eleven and Ito-Yokado stores, as well as Nintendo TOKYO, in Japan from June 27, 2020.

 

There are 7 different items in the collection and 19 designs in total that they come in, from a talking Mario plush to a giant Bowser bath towel, Boo hand soap dispenser set, and more.

 

A-Tier Prize: It’s a-me, Mario! Talking Plush (30cm)


This cute talking Mario plush speaks five of the princess-saving plumber’s classic lines when you press his belly.

 

B-Tier Prize: Fanfare Melody Alarm Clock (20cm)


The alarm clock face features a historical look at the many designs of the Super Mario Bros. games. The alarm sounds that play are those of when you clear a level in each of the games, so you can try and guess which game each sound is from when you hear it.

 

C-Tier Prize: Big Bowser Towel (200cm)


This 2-meter long towel features Mario’s eternal enemy, Bowser—known simply as Koopa in Japan. Its convenient size means it can function as a bath towel or a blanket.

 

D-Tier Prize: Glow-in-the-Dark Boo Soap Dispenser Set (15cm)


Boo loves to hide in the dark and surprise the player then they least expect it. These handy soap dispensers glow in the dark, and are perfect for storing your shampoo, conditioner, or soap. You get both in the set!

 

E-Tier Prize: Clear Pouches (3 Designs) (12cm-18cm)


These three cute pouches vary in size and can be used for storing all your little things.

    Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump. The popular series has over 100 million copies in circulation and spawned a hit anime series last year. The upcoming anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, which is being animated by ufotable, is set for release tomorrow on October 16, 2020 will serve as a direct sequel to the 2019 anime series.

  • Nintendo Switch’s Ninjala Adds Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang Steve Aoki Remix’ to the Soundtrack

    The developers of the hit Nintendo Switch™ title Ninjala announced in Dev Diary #10, which was posted on their official YouTube channel today, another collaboration with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

     

    In the world of Ninjala, players blow bubble gum to craft different weapons and fight using the fighting style of ninjutsu. Players can also transform into nearby objects, and they must use parkour to traverse different landscapes while aiming to take down their opponents.

     

    Steve Aoki release a remix of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s hit track Ninja Re Bang Bang back in June. The track was subsequently used to promote Ninjala in commercials as well as an animated music video. The song proved so popular it made it onto numerous huge music playlists. The song is now set to be released on Ninjala on October 29, 2020 for a limited time via the in-game Select Shop where it can be purchased to be played as part of the game’s BGM.

  • SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Will Open at Universal Studios Japan in Spring 2021

    Universal Studios Japan (USJ) has announced that its new Nintendo-themed area SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will open in spring 2021. The park was originally scheduled to open last year, the year of the Tokyo Olympics, but the date was postponed due to COVID-19.

     

    SUPER NINTENDO WORLD: A Nintendo Fan’s Dream

    SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will be the first-ever multilevel Nintendo-themed area at USJ, and the first of its kind in the world. Fans of the internationally beloved games can expected to see a whole host of rides and attractions dedicated to their favourite characters, from Mario Kart to Yoshi and beyond, as well as themed restaurants, merchandise shops—the list goes on. There is endless amount of fun for fans to feel a part of the Nintendo world as they take up the role of Mario and hit blocks to receive coins, collect items, and much more.

     

    While the grand opening of SUPER NINTENDO is still a while away yet, USJ has everyone covered. The new and first of its kind Mario Cafe & Store will officially open inside the park’s Hollywood Area on October 16, 2020. Let’s take a closer look.

    This Mario themed space will serve up food and drink inspired by everybody’s favourite plumber as well as sell merchandise.

    The Nintendo Switch™ title Ninjala finally rolled out its collaboration with Sonic the Hedgehog on Thursday (September 24).

    In the world of Ninjala, players blow bubble gum to craft different weapons and fight using the fighting style of ninjutsu. Players can also transform into nearby objects, and they must use parkour to traverse different landscapes while aiming to take down their opponents.

    Players can get their hands on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles costumes for their avatars, as well as turn into a Dr. Eggman Gum Utsusemi.

    There are also IPPON decorations and stickers for players to use. All of these items are available to purchase via the in-game shop.

  • Ninjala’s Sonic the Hedgehog Collaboration Launches September 23

    It was revealed in Developer Diary #9 for the Nintendo Switch title Ninjala by both the game’s director and game designer that the previously promised highly-anticipated Sega collaboration is really happening, with Sonic the Hedgehog set to speed his way into the gum world.

    In the world of Ninjala, players blow bubble gum to craft different weapons and fight using the fighting style of ninjutsu. Players can also transform into nearby objects, and they must use parkour to traverse different landscapes while aiming to take down their opponents. Released on June 25, 2020, the game has been downloaded over 4 million times worldwide.

    In the latest Developer Diary, the team revealed not only the Sonic collaboration—which comes in the form of costumes you can obtain in-game—but details on the upcoming “Featured Battle Mode” too

    The new game mode will first bring the “Beast Attack!” limited-time event which is an 8-player game of tag where one player becomes a Beast and must defeat other Ninjas to earn points. Likewise, Ninjas must avoid being defeated for themselves to earn points.

  • Ninjala Version 2.0 Update Adds Worldwide Matchmaking

    GungHo has rolled out a new update to its free-to-play bubblegum shooter Ninjala, available on Nintendo Switch™, which introduces worldwide matchmaking amongst several improvements.

    In the world of Ninjala, players blow bubble gum to craft different weapons and fight using the fighting style of ninjutsu. Players can also transform into nearby objects, and they must use parkour to traverse different landscapes while aiming to take down their opponents.

     

    The new update allows for world matchmaking in place of the previous regional matchmaking service. It has also improved the wait time for matchmaking, adjusted gum weapon parameters, improved UI, and more.

  • Chewy, Cheesy and Cute Moomin Obanyaki Desserts Now Being Sold at FamilyMart in Japan

    Japanese convenience store chain FamilyMart released cream cheese-filled obanyaki branded with Moomin characters on August 4 in celebration of “Moomin’s Day” which falls on August 9.

    The Moomins are the main characters of Tove Jansson’s series of books and comic strips. August 9 is the birthday of the author, and so this date has become known as “Moomin’s Day” amongst fans of the series.

     

    Obanyaki are a type of imagawayaki which are like waffles and are filled with various ingredients, the most popular being red bean paste which can often be found at festivals in Japan. These chewy Moomin obanyaku however are filled with cream cheese and are stamped with the familiar faces of Moominvalley including the titular characters, Snufkin, Little My, and the Hattifatteners.

    What better way to celebrate Moomin’s Day than with a delicious treat? If you’re in Japan this summer, head to your closest FamilyMart.

  • Minions Confections Sneak Their Way Into Lawson Convenience Stores in Japan

    Bandai Candy’s character-inspired Japanese confectionery series Tabemas released a new batch of Minion-themed Japanese wagashi confections at Lawson convenience stores in Japan (excluding Lawson Store 100 branches) on August 4, 2020.

    ‘Tabemas’ is an abbreviation of the Japanese words taberareru masukotto, meaning ‘mascots that you can eat.’ It is a Japanese confectionery series that combines well-known characters and Japanese sweets made from ingredients like red bean paste, sugar and rice flour.

    The line-up includes familiar faces from the Despicable Me and Minions films, namely the childish Bob, Stuart—who loves a prank—and Kevin who has a leader presence about him. The confections feature all the little details for each character, from the goggles and hair to the colouring.

     

    Each character has its own delicious bean paste flavouring too: Bob is banana flavoured (his favourote), Stuart is strawberry, and Kevin is chocolate. Which do you want to try the most?

  • Dragon Ball Confections Kamehameha Into FamilyMart Convenience Stores in Japan

    Character-inspired Japanese confectionery series Tabemas has revealed that its next batch of sweet treats are Dragon Ball Super inspired. The sweets were released at FamilyMart convenience stores in Japan on July 28, 2020.

     

    ‘Tabemas’ is an abbreviation of the Japanese words taberareru masukotto, meaning ‘mascots that you can eat.’ It is a Japanese confectionery series that combines well-known characters and Japanese sweets made from ingredients like red bean paste, sugar and rice flour. The sweets are also made with a dough called “nerikiri” which is used in making traditional Japanese wagashi sweets.

    The confection designs include the iconic Dragon Balls from the series up to Seven-Stars, as well as Shenron.

    Shenron is matcha-flavoured. Using nerikiri dough, Tabemas has brought the dragon god to life with his iconic red gaze, whiskers, and tail. Each of the seven Dragon Balls are filled with custard cream. One set of these confections comes with both Shenreon and one of the Dragon Balls, so fans can enjoy both flavours.

    As well as all of the seven Dragon Balls, there are two secrets ones too. What exactly they are requires a trip to FamilyMart.

  • New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Outfits Released in Collaboration With Pip Elekiban

    Pip Japan has created collection of items for the Nintendo Switch title Animal Crossing: New Horizons using the game’s Custom Designs featured which it revealed on July 2 via the official Pip Elekiban Twitter account. Pip Elekiban is a magnetic patch used on the skin for treating muscle stiffness.

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons has enjoyed successful sales during the stay-at-home measures put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pip Japan has released a trailer for its in-game clothing collection which consists of 3 one-piece outfits, a shirt, and more. Check it out below.

    In May 2020, a survey was held in Japan for 300 men and women aged between 20-50 years old. They were asked whether they felt some form of stress during the current situation, with 60% confirming that they did. This includes mental stress as a result of not being able to visit places they wanted to visit or meet who they wanted to meet, work-related stress, physical stress brought about by a lack of exercise, and so on. Part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ success can be attributed to these causes, with people purchasing the game during the lockdown to help alleviate stresses and as a form of escapism.

     

    Pip Japan wanted to help bring some smiles to people’s faces during the pandemic, and so have designed their own clothing collection for the game.

  • Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s ‘Ninja Re Bang Bang’ Remixed by Steve Aoki For Nintendo Switch’s Ninjala

    Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s hit song Ninja Re Bang Bang was remixed by twice Grammy Award-nominated DJ Steve Aoki. Titled Ninja Re Bang Bang Steve Aoki Remix, the song was released worldwide today across digital and streaming music services.

    The song was released in the US from Steve Aoki’s label Dim Mak as well as the prominent label Smash the House which plays host to the Belgian dance music festival Tomorrowland. That makes Kyary for the first Japanese female artists to have a release from both of these international labels.

    Steve Aoki’s remix of Ninja Re Bang Bang was released as part of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s collaboration with the new video game Ninjala which was released worldwide on Nintendo Switch™️ yesterday (June 24).

     

    Steve commented: “I’ve always been a huge, huge fan of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and her producer Yasutaka Nakata, so getting to work on this remix made me so happy. It really is an honour. It’s a really great song, so working on it was a lot of fun for me.”

    As well as a commercial, a special Ninjala x Kyary Pamyu Pamyu mashup video was released to promote the game. The video below sees the Ninjala characters doing the famous Ninja Re Bang Bang choreography. Steve Aoki also makes an appearance.

  • LEGO Super Mario Unveils Full Collection

    LEGO and Nintendo have teamed up, creating a new line of new Super Mario-themed LEGO.

    The LEGO Super Mario collection offers a completely new way to interact with Super Mario. Build your playground, search for coins with the aid of your trusty mushroom-headed friend Toad, and smash into the Koopas who dare to stand in your way.

    Three LEGO Super Mario sets will be released on July 10 with the release of the entire collection to follow on August 1, 2020. The starter set is available for preorder from a number of LEGO retailers across Japan and online*.
