Sunshine 60 Observatory to Open Diamond Fuji Viewing Party in January

SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observatory will hold the 9th annual Diamond Fuji viewing event from January 23 until January 29, 2022 from 16:40 until 16:50. This is a rare sight that can only be glimpsed a few days a year when the sun is perfectly aligned above Mt. Fuji.

 

Guests will have no buildings blocking their view from the observation deck, and if the weather conditions are right, it will look exactly as if the sun is emerging from Japan’s most famous mountain. You won’t want to forget your camera!

 

The rooftop will be open to only 105 people total (15 guests per day) to experience this once-in-a-lifetime view from 227 meters above the ground. On January 25, a special viewing event will utilize a super-telephoto lens to project this incredible sight onto a monitor. Mr. Hiroyuki Narisawa, a renowned star photographer, will also give a lecture on how to take the best photos during the event.

  • First ‘Diamond Skytree’ Photo Event to be Held at Sunshine 60 Observation Deck in Tokyo

    The SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observatory in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, will hold its first ‘Diamond Skytree’ photography event on October 18, 2021, with another viewing on October 20. These events will have guests up early, beginning just after 6:00AM! This is when the sun will overlap with the very tip of Tokyo Skytree in the east, and is an extremely rare sight that can only be seen a few days each year.

    The Nippon Genki Project will be held again this year and it will be available to watch on the event’s official website and on YouTube. The event was created by the late Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto as a way to get people energised and motivated to realise their dreams.

    The theme of this year’s event is ‘World Heritage Runway.’ The event will be recorded in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, at the foot of the World Heritage Site of Mt. Fuji.     HOSHINOYA Fuji is located in Japan’s prefecture of Yamanashi, a place that enjoys a bounty of fruit cultivation. Yamanashi has been called the “Fruit Country,” offering a variety of different fruits. In fact, it has been the biggest producer of peaches, grapes, and plums in Japan for over 10 year. The glamping masters of HOSHINOYA Fuji have had knowledge bestowed on them from the growers of these sweet gems who have advised on the safety and best ways to prepare land for fruit growing, characteristics of fruits grown throughout the year, and other means of support. Now, guests at HOSHINOYA Fuji are set to serve these fruits to guests at breakfast this summer.

    Guests will enjoy their breakfast out on a sofa on a private terrace that overlooks Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi.     An optional tour is available with the plan which offers guests a chance to depart HOSHINOYA Fuji early in the morning to visit a peach farm in the city of Fuefuki. Guests are given exclusive access to the farm where they can learn all about how the peaches are grown from the farmers.     Fujimoto Lake Biwa Resort is set to welcome the new Peter Rabbit™ English Garden in Spring 2022 which will be themed entirely around English writer Beatrix Potter’s fictional animal character Peter Rabbit.

    The garden will open as the biggest English-style garden in Japan. Fujimoto Lake Biwa Resort is located right beside Mount Fuji and is known for the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, an annual springtime cherry blossom event. This means the garden will be opening during the perfect season at the site. It will bring to life a magical recreation of the Lake District where the Peter Rabbit stories are set. There will be lots of photo opportunities, a menu themed on the characters, a museum, a shop selling original merchandise, and more. British garden designer Mark Chapman is helping to create this English-style garden.

     

    Not only can visitors enjoy the spring and summer flowers when the garden opens, but the gorgeous hues of autumn too, and all with Mount Fuji in the background.

    SKY CIRCUS Sunshine 60 Observation Deck is holding its 5th Tentai Kanshokai this year where visitors can witness the phenomenon known as Diamond Fuji, a rare occurrence that only happens several times a year where the sun looks like it is sitting on top of the mountain peak and looks like a sparkling diamond. The first session was held on October 1, 2020 and the next ones will be held from November 12 to 18.

  • Learn About Animal Sex Habits at Sunshine Aquarium’s Exhibition in Tokyo

    Following the success of last year’s event, Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro, Tokyo is bringing back its animal reproduction-themed exhibition this year which will run in the evenings at the aquarium from September 12 to November 5.


    The exhibition looks at the reproductive habits of various animals from different angles using informative explanation boards with cute illustrations amongst other things which enable visitors to learn things they probably didn’t know about this topic. During the run of the evening exhibition, all of the fish tanks and lighting throughout the aquarium will be turned pink, lending a more mature adult fun vibe to the event.

    All visitors will be given a free lucky bag which has even more secret stuff inside than last year, as well as a ‘fitting’ prop for taking photos at the exhibition.

    The regular daytime panels which have captions explaining each animal will be replaced in the evenings with different explanations regarding their reproductive habits. Visitors can scan the QR codes on the panels to see cute illustrations of the animals along with descriptions.

  • Ikebukuro’s Sunshine Aquarium to Open Magical New Jellyfish Area

    Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro, Tokyo is set to open its brand new jellyfish area as part of the aquarium’s third major renovation on July 9, 2020.

     

    Jellyfish Panorama Tank

    Two tanks will grace this area: the magnificent moon jellyfish will dance across the 14-meter wide “Jellyfish Panorama” tank, while sea nettle jellyfish, which are known for their long tentacles, will swim in the “Jellyfish Screen.”


    The jellyfish exhibit already in Sunshine Aquarium is also being renovated, with gorgeous new flooring and walls being put in place. Six tanks will be housed here, including the 360° “Jellyfish Tunnel,” “Jellyfish Loop,” “Jellyfish Drop,” and “Jellyfish Dream.”

     

    A Spectacular Performance of Music, Smells, and Lighting

    The new jellyfish area will feature original sounds newly recorded to capture the vibe of the jellyfish’s movements. There will also be special fragrances you can smell, as well as beautiful lighting that twinkles like the swaying of the water. All of this serves to make visitors feel calm and relaxed.
