Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Collaborates with Popular Shimane Manju for LOCAL POWER JAPAN Project

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of her major label debut, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is staying active in 2022. In conjunction with the nationwide tour, the “LOCAL POWER JAPAN Project” was launched to energize Japan through the appeal of regional towns and cities, and has been attracting major attention. Kyary’s tour made it to Shimane on March 12, and the details of her next collaboration have been revealed!

Kyary will be teaming up with Nakaura Foods and their delicious local delicacy Dojou Sukui Manju. Known as the representative treat of the San’in region, the name is a reference to the mask worn during local performances of the Yasugibushi folk song. The steamed buns were developed by Nakaura Foods in 1967 and have been loved by locals ever since. In the 2000s, the company began experimenting with new flavors by teaming up with other local creators.

 

The company’s logo is being reimagined for the project, inspired by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s 2013 Furisodeshon music video. 

The name of the popular product has also been changed to Kyary Sukui Manju! Each box has a pop design and would make a perfect souvenir for Kyary fans.

A collaborative T-shirt is also on sale featuring the new logo and the singer’s 10th-anniversary logo. A special LINE collaboration is also underway, and 50 people who order the new Kyary-themed treats from the official Nakaura Foods online store will be entered to win a shirt!

  • Rilakkuma Teams Up with SpoGOMI to Sponsor National Cleanup Competition

    In an effort to clean up areas around Japan, everyone’s favorite lazy bear is teaming up with the Social Sports Initiative’s SpoGOMI! Rilakkuma is currently on his own nationwide tour, traveling from the northernmost to the southernmost points in Japan over 18 months. Guests visiting each event will be able to find unique prefecture-based environmentally-friendly merchandise. 

     

    SpoGOMI is an entirely new sport started in Japan, combining a traditional sport with trash pickup! It’s always more fun to turn a chore into a game, and participants compete to see who can pick up the most garbage.

    FRUITS ZIPPER, a new idol group from ASOBISYSTEM, has a simple concept: “From Harajuku to the World.” The girls have just released the music video for their 2nd digital single Watashino Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro (The Cutest Thing About Me).

     

    The group is ready to transmit what they call ‘NEW KAWAII’ from Harajuku, an area known for fashion and individuality, to their soon-to-be global fanbase.

    FRUITS ZIPPER has been going strong since its launch in April this year, appearing at numerous idol events and selling out tickets to its solo shows immediately after they went on sale.

     

    The song Watashino Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro has exploded in popularity on TikTok, racking up over 200 million plays.

     

    The song also ranked on the TikTok HOT SONGS list and charted on Spotify’s viral chart for three weeks in a row.

     

    Initially, no music video for this song was planned, but due to fan response and the track’s huge popularity, the decision was made to produce one after all. The video is filled with the ‘NEW KAWAII’ that FRUITS ZIPPER wants to be known for, so check it out!

     

    To commemorate the release of the music video, a playback campaign is currently underway on Spotify from June 23 until June 29. Fans will be able to see a different member on Spotify Canvas for each day of the campaign.

  • Japanese Artist VERDY Releases Minions Collaboration Collection

    To commemorate the upcoming film Minions: The Rise of Gru, a new apparel collection has been unveiled! The new items were made by VERDY, the artist behind popular projects like Girls Don’t Cry and Wasted Youth, both of which have been noticed by celebrities overseas. Prior to the collection’s launch online on July 1, fans can buy items from the limited-edition collection at Universal Studios in Los Angeles starting June 17 and at Universal Studios Japan starting June 24.

  • Private Jet Package Now Available in Toyama Offering Spectacular View of Tateyama Mountains

    Mizu to Takumi, a company associated with the Toyama West Tourism Promotion Association, has teamed up with SKYTREK to offer guests a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the area via private jet. Reservations for the incredible experience began on June 17, 2022.

     

    Offering an entirely new tourism experience in Toyama Prefecture, visitors can see the area’s natural wonders from miles above the Earth. The program also aims to share local culture and more about traditional craftsmanship and cuisine.

    Toyama Prefecture boasts dramatic topography, from the massive peaks of the Northern Alps and the Tateyama Mountains to the deep waters of Toyama Bay. To better allow visitors to see the sights, these private jet tours will be chartered on special courses different from standard airlines.

     

    After the flights, guests will be welcomed to explore Takaoka’s deep history and culture. Kane no Sanzun, a restored and preserved inn, will welcome visitors, offering a relaxing and rejuvenating time.

    Visitors can also book optional excursions to further explore the area, such as a Zen meditation experience at a famous temple in Takaoka, a traditional crafting workshop, and a tour and tasting of the only whiskey distillery in the Hokuriku region.

  • Attack on Titan Inspires Collaboration Folding Bike from DAHON

    The world’s largest folding bike brand DANON has revealed a new collaboration with the popular series Attack on Titan! This bike features unique branding and coloring perfect for fans of the long-running manga and anime series. 

     

    Dahon is the world’s largest manufacturer of folding bicycles with a two-thirds market share in 2006. The company was founded in 1982 by David T. Hon, a former laser physicist, and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with assembly factories in China, Macau, and Bulgaria. Full-scale production started in 1984.

  • MARiA from GARNiDELiA and luz Release Duet Track, Music Video

    GARNiDELiA vocalist MARiA released the music video for Cafe Latte no Uta, her duet track with luz, on June 15, 2022.

     

    The track will be included in the singer’s second solo album Memories, which will go on sale on June 22 and is now available on streaming services. Cafe Latte no Uta was composed by PENGUIN RESERACH’s kemu with lyrics written by both Horie and luz.

    A release event has also been announced, scheduled to take place on June 22 at Tower Records Shibuya. The singer will hold a solo concert at Toyosu PIT on July 3. In exciting news, MARiA will be performing in an upcoming stage play, Quantum, which will be performed in Tokyo and Osaka for 23 total shows.

     

    Although still very active in her work with GARNiDELiA, MARiA has been breaking new ground in her solo work, collaborating with a number of artists and creators. Keep an eye on what she does in the future!

  • Japan’s National Museum of Nature and Science to Hold Dr. Stone Collaboration Event

    Japan’s National Museum of Nature and Science will hold a collaboration with the anime series Dr. Stone starting June 21! The project will include mini-exhibitions, character audio guides for permanent exhibits, commentary panels with collaborative visuals for permanent exhibitions, and collaborative goods! The event aims to convey a deeper interest in science to the younger generation. 

     

    Mini-Exhibition

    A mini-exhibition will be held to explain the world of the first two seasons of Dr. Stone from a scientific point of view. The science used by the show’s protagonist, Senku Ishigami, and his friends in the Kingdom of Science will be explained in an easy-to-understand manner through specimens and materials from the Museum’s collection of natural history and the history of science and technology.

    Fossilization Exhibit – How are Living Things Petrified?

    For example, in connection with the scene at the beginning of the anime in which all humans are petrified by a mysterious beam of light, the process of fossilization will be explained scientifically. An Archaeopteryx fossil replica will also be on display.

    Character Voice Guides for Permanent Exhibits

    Voice actors Yusuke Kobayashi (Senku Ishigami) and Kengo Kawanishi (Gen Asagiri) will provide their character voices in special commentary on ten of the museum’s permanent exhibits. 


    The voices can be played back by scanning the dedicated QR code located in the museum with your smartphone.

     

    Explanatory Panels with Collaborative Visuals for Permanent Exhibits

    Explanatory panels with collaborative visuals will be specially installed in five permanent exhibits to introduce visitors to recommended exhibits around the massive museum.

  • Sanrio to Create Original Character Inspired by Boy Band JO1

    Sanrio and LAPONE Entertainment have teamed up to launch the JO1 x Sanrio Character Development Project to create a new character inspired by the globally popular boy band JO1.

     

     

    The new project combines JO1’s creativity with Sanrio’s beloved branding to create a character embodying the member’s strengths. JO1 announced the project during the 2022 SANRIO FES at Pacifico Yokohama North on June 12. A teaser has also been posted on the official JO1 YouTube channel. A special program will closely follow the project and new episodes will be posted on YouTube in the future, so be sure to watch!

    JO1’s marketing department has been tasked with making the group’s fans feel even closer, and the new character will be a kind of ‘alter ego’ of JO1. It’s unclear what kind of character we’ll see at the end of this, but fans are excited to find out!
