Traditional Crafts Company “Usaburo Kokeshi” to Release Dragon Ball Kokeshi Dolls!

Hikidashi are going to sell kokeshi dolls based on the popular Dragon Ball series by Akira Toriyama. The dolls come as part the character series of kokeshi dolls created by Usaburo Kokeshi. The Dragon Ball kokeshi went up on the Hikidashi online store on August 23rd for pre-order, featuring a line-up of Son Goku, Krillin, and Master Roshi.

 

Usaburo Kokeshi was established in 1950. Located in a workshop in Shinto, village on the Eastern side of Mount Haruna in Gunma Prefecture, the artisans of Usaburo Kokeshi have worked diligently to create Dragon Ball kokeshi to add to their character series collection.

 

Established by Okamoto Usaburō, the company manufactures their dolls using pottery wheels before decorating them by carving and using pyrography to create a new kind of manufacturing technique. Usaburo Kokeshi currently export directly to 18 countries, mainly in Europe, to deliver their masterful work to the rest of the world. Their dolls have been very well received both in Japan and overseas.

Now people can enjoy the brand new adorable Goku, Krillin and Master Roshi kokeshi and the warmth of the wood from which they are made. The versions they have created are of Goku and Krillin when they were Master Roshi’s pupils wearing their orange dōgi, or training uniforms.

The Goku kokeshi features Goku with his trademark hairstyle and his power pole on his back. The power pole is also carved from wood to make it three dimensional. They have really gotten all the details in there.

The orange training uniforms, black belts and 亀 (‘kame’) or ‘turtle’ symbol on Goku’s chest are all carefully painted in different colours.

The features for Krillin, who also in with training together with Goku and Master Roshi, are also on point, with his classic expression and marks on his forehead.

Just like Goku, the Krillin kokeshi also has the same uniform, belt and turtle symbol on his chest, all painted in their respective colours.

Master Roshi, also known as the “Turtle Hermit,” is Goku and Krillin’s teacher. Usaburo Kokeshi made sure to keep his trademark sunglasses, beard, and the turtle shell on his back, staying faithful to his original design down to the last detail.

  • Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Film Soundtrack Scheduled for June Release

    The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film is scheduled to release in theaters on June 11, and the original soundtrack will hit shelves a few days prior, on June 8, 2022.

     

    The film has been a hot topic in recent months. The original story, screenplay, and character design have all been handled by Akira Toriyama, with Tetsuro Kodama directing and Chikashi Kubota serving as animation director. 

     

    The music will be composed by Naoki Sato, a composer who won the Best Music Award at the 29th Japan Academy Awards for the film Always: Sunset on Third Street. The musician has composed music for movies, dramas, and animated films such as Masquerade Night, Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, and the historical drama Reach Beyond the Blue Sky. The soundtrack will contain 23 background tracks.

  • ‘Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2022’ Streaming Event to Tease Franchise’s Future

    Bandai Namco has announced an upcoming global streaming event to highlight both current and upcoming Dragon Ball titles. ‘Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2022’ will take place between February 18 and February 19 in regions around the world. Plenty of updates and announcements will be made during the stream, so you won’t want to miss it!

     

    The event was first held in February 2021 and brought together Dragon Ball fans from 23 countries around the world. This second annual event will feature even more popular content and will utilize the latest technology to bring even more excitement to fans of the series.

     

    The world’s strongest players will once again be invited to participate in an exciting battle! This year’s Games Battle Hour will feature the Dragon Ball FighterZ, the Dragon Ball Super Card Game, and the smartphone title Dragon Ball Legends. Kids can also enjoy the new Super Dragon Ball Heroes digital card game!

     

    On Dragon Ball FighterZ, the World Championship will be held to determine the world’s best player among the winners of the Regional Finals, a tournament featuring the top-ranked players from Europe, Japan, and North America. In the Dragon Ball Super Card Game, the winner of the 2021 World Championship will face off against the newest top player. Dragon Ball Legends will also announce a new project.

    The recently revealed multiplayer game, Dragon Ball: The Breakers, will also be part of the event with the game’s producer giving an in-depth look and gameplay demonstrations for this upcoming game. ‘Dokkan DATA 2022’ will look back at the seven years since the launch of Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle and will share some data about how players have been playing the game and its exciting history.

    Usaburo Kokeshi is a kokeshi doll maker that first opened in 1950. Its workshop is based in Shinto, a village in Gunma Prefecture. This third collection in its Kamen Rider Kokeshi series includes wooden palm-sized versions of Kamen Rider 2, Shocker, and Black, all of which are handmade individually with love and care.

     

    The dolls feature all the little details of the characters carved naturally from the wood from the masks and belts to each of their outfits. You can feel the attention to detail poured in from the craftsmen imbued into every part of the dolls.

  • Dragon Ball Confections Kamehameha Into FamilyMart Convenience Stores in Japan

    Character-inspired Japanese confectionery series Tabemas has revealed that its next batch of sweet treats are Dragon Ball Super inspired. The sweets were released at FamilyMart convenience stores in Japan on July 28, 2020.

     

    ‘Tabemas’ is an abbreviation of the Japanese words taberareru masukotto, meaning ‘mascots that you can eat.’ It is a Japanese confectionery series that combines well-known characters and Japanese sweets made from ingredients like red bean paste, sugar and rice flour. The sweets are also made with a dough called “nerikiri” which is used in making traditional Japanese wagashi sweets.

    The confection designs include the iconic Dragon Balls from the series up to Seven-Stars, as well as Shenron.

    Shenron is matcha-flavoured. Using nerikiri dough, Tabemas has brought the dragon god to life with his iconic red gaze, whiskers, and tail. Each of the seven Dragon Balls are filled with custard cream. One set of these confections comes with both Shenreon and one of the Dragon Balls, so fans can enjoy both flavours.
