“Kuromame no Pound Cake” is a sweets item using fermented butter, fresh Benibanaran (a variety of egg) and black beans made of famous Tanba seeds. The item has a gentle flavor of strictly selected salt and slightly sweet black beans.

Expect to enjoy potato in an entirely new way, and get ready for the spooky season with a line-up of Halloween treats that everyone can enjoy.

     

    Let’s take a look at just some of the gourmet delights arriving for the autumn season, some of which are already on sale.

     

    Potato Desserts

    Drinkable Potatoes (Purple Sweet Potato/Ripe Potato/Potato Leaf) – ¥600 Each @ Minamikaze Noukasha Dessert House (Available: October 1 – October 31)

    We’re at a point in time now where not only can we eat potatoes―we can drink them too! These potato dessert drinks come in three flavours: fruity Purple Sweet Potato, rich Ripe Potato, and Potato Leaf. The potatoes used to make all of the drinks were farmed from Minamikaze Noukasha’s 160 potato farms.

    Methods to make potato cultivation even easier were introduced almost 400 years ago in Japan. Cultivating original varieties of potatoes is difficult―it’s mostly not done today. These pies are proudly made with those rare native potato varieties.

  • Haneda Airport Releases First Bubble Tea Which Passengers Can Enjoy as They Fly

    XFLAG STORE + HANEDA is a small branch of XFLAG STORE and is located in Terminal 1 of Haneda Airport. On August 13th, they released three energising bubble tea flavours served in a bottle that you can take on board with you when travelling along domestic air routes. The three bubble tea flavours are; MILK TEA, HOJICHA (a type of green tea) and MATCHA. 

     

    These bubble tea flavours are limited to XFLAG STORE + HANEDA and were created with the intention of providing a splash of energizing fun to tiresome travels. 

    As long as you screw the lid on properly, you can store your delicious drink in your bag and even carry it onto your flight so you can enjoy it whilst soaring through the clouds. This is the first time a shop at Haneda airport has ever sold a bubble tea drink with the intention of flight passengers taking it on board with them.

    Looking for some delicious, well presented Japanese souvenirs? Head to Daimaru department store which is adjoined to Tokyo Station. On the first floor and basement floor lies a Japanese-style desserts and sweets area which contains approximately 70 delicious brands. Every day, approximately 30,000 desserts are sold to customers who are looking for souvenirs to bring to their family and friends. 

    Now we have arrived at the summer holidays, there are many tourists who will soon reach the stage of panic where they are unsure of what souvenirs to bring back to their loved ones. Luckily, Daimaru Department store is a goldmine of beautifully presented Japanese-style sweet snacks made by top brands. Today, we present you with a list of the 10 fastest-selling souvenirs that were sold from July 2018 to June 2019. There is still plenty of time to get your hands on these souvenirs!

     

    1st Place: N.Y.C. SAND: Caramel Sandwich Biscuits (box of 8) ¥1,080 (1st floor)

     As you take a bite, you will notice that the biscuit, chocolate and caramel will balance in perfect harmony just for a brief glorious moment.

    This baked treat is packed with the delicious flavour of sweet potatoes. The freshly baked scent is enough to draw you in.

    Children would just love to see the cute panda design. Wrap yourself in the mild banana yoghurt-flavoured cream.

    This crunchy cookie is topped with a generous amount of caramelised walnuts.

    The outside of this baumkuchen is fragrant and crispy whilst the inside is soft and spongy. Take a bite to experience the wonderful texture of this European-style baked good. 

    8th place: Azabujuban Agemochi-ya: Panchetta Agemochi (40g) ¥442 (1st floor)

    The flavour of this baked mochi dough is like eating bacon cooked in an Italian style. This new flavour is a wonderful discovery that you should also try.

    9th place: Sugar Butter Tree: SUGAR BUTTER SAND TREE (Box of 10) ¥690 (1st floor)

    The crispy biscuit and melty white chocolate is a sublime combination that you will want to try again and again.

    10th place:  Kanou Shoujuan: Ikkoten ¥270 each (1st floor)

    A whole Japanese chestnut is smothered in a thick layer of Tamba Dainagon adzuki bean mix that is simmered lightly. This is especially delicious when eaten with tea.

    Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan released their Mercedes me Tokyo HANEDA-limited Polar Bear Mango doughnut on July 1, 2019. This original doughnut features the popular bear character from the Mercedes-Benz collection as a motif. The doughnut contains mango flavoured cream and is coated with milky white chocolate. As you can see, the doughnut looks like a polar bear. 

     

    Polar Bear Mango: ¥300 (before tax )

    The doughnut is decorated with white chocolate ears and the face is drawn on with mint and bitter chocolate. This doughnut, which is only available for a limited-time only, has a fresh, tropical taste. The white and sky-coloured theme is refreshing to look at, not to mention perfect for those summer vibes. 

     

    Mercedes me Tokyo HANEDA is different to your regular Krispy Kreme Japan store. Visit this branch for boxes and cups with store-limited designs. Customers who eat in are served their their doughnuts on an original design plate. Drinks are also served in original mugs and glasses. For those who decide to take out, there are original boxes designs for three and six doughnuts. 

     

    When you find yourself waiting around at Haneda airport, how about popping by Mercedes me Tokyo HANEDA for some store-limited Krispy Kreme treats? 

  • Described as the “most interesting sweets shop in the world”, PAPABUBBLE sells a range of cute and fun confections. On July 1, PAPABUBBLE will open a Candy Art Museum on basement floor 2 of GINZA SIX.

     

    PAPABUBBLE has set up shop in over 30 cities worldwide. The main shop will contain art pieces made from candy. Considering all the candy shops that are currently out there in the world, nobody has ever seen anything quite like this before. 

    The museum contains around 20 different ornaments that are edible sweets. Visitors who wish to purchase the ornaments can do so. Besides the standard sweets, the display items and range of sweets for sale will be changed every day. 

     

    When the museum opens in July, visitors will be able to enjoy the wonderful texture and flavour of candy lampshades, enjoy the artistic and charming glow of candy mushrooms, and gaze in bewilderment at an antique vase baumkuchen cake. 

    To commemorate its grand opening, customers who spend more than ¥5,000 (after tax) on display items or on the sweets shop range will receive either a soft gummy brain or soft gummy dentures. This campaign will be running throughout July. 

    Along with the grand opening of the art museum, there will also be Ginza-limited products on sale that are completely unique to the Ginza branch. The lineup includes sweets made from ingredients that are rarely seen in Japan. This includes colourful and fruity chocolate such as rocky roads and soft candy sweets made from snow sugar. PAPABUBBLE will also sell souvenirs that represent Ginza such as Kirihako boxes which are beautiful boxes made from wood. 

     

    If you are in Tokyo, you just cannot miss this museum that is overflowing with originality.

  • New Pokémon Centre DX and West Japan’s First Pokémon Café to open in Osaka

    A new official Pokémon Centre DX and a new Pokémon Café will open in Osaka on September 20, 2019 in Daimaru Shinsaibashi’s Main Building.

     

    This will be the second Pokémon Centre to open in Osaka. The Pokémon café will adjoined to the shop and will be the first ever branch of the Pokémon café to have ever opened in West Japan. This is also the second permanent Pokémon café to open in Japan besides the Pokémon café in Nihombashi.

    The new Pokémon Centre DX and Pokémon Café will be situated in a bustling tourist hotspot. On your visit, you can also take a gander around the Shinsaibashi shopping district or  the American Village (America-mura) which is full of entertainment. This area is thriving with department stores, special shops, big brands and so much more. Tourists from other parts of Japan and all over the world are constantly flocking to this giant marketplace.

    As the worldwide exhibition event Expo 2025 will be held in Konohana Ward, Osaka, there is no doubt that Osaka is becoming more and more of a Tourist hotspot!

    ANA FESTA, Narita Airport, is releasing a premium chocolate version of their Toasted Marshmallow Tart S’more which will only be available for a limited period. On basement floor 1 of ANA FESTA in Narita Airport, there is a shop adjoined to a small bakery where the s’mores are freshly made.

    The Toasted Marshmallow Tart S’more is a camping treat invented by America consisting of a roasted marshmallow sandwiched between two graham crackers with chocolate. Over a period of 8 months, ANA FESTA has taken this popular American treat and developed a new style of S’more. When ANA FESTA started selling their S’mores back in March 2017, they became an instant sensation, becoming a popular appearance on social media and in magazines. Now, these S’mores are known as the new Tokyo souvenir and is the most popular souvenir sold at ANA FESTA in Narita airport.

    The making of the brand new premium flavour called W chocolate involved the participation of ANA FESTA bakers. After extensive trial and error, they created an exquisite masterpiece full of delicate detail down to the packaging.

  • Try These Mouth-Watering Cherry Daifuku Sweets Made With Seasonal Cherries ♡

    Kofukudo has been selling delicious and elegant Japanese sweets for over 140 years. From June 14, they will release a new season-limited flavour of their popular *daifuku. The season-limited sweet will be called Sakuranbo Daifuku. (Cherry Daifuku).

     

    *Daifuku is a type of round, sweet mochi dough that is traditionally filled with a sweet filling such as red bean paste.

    Cherry Daifuku: ¥270 each (after tax)

    These daifuku are made using the seasonal Sato Nishiki cherries which are at their peak harvest time in June. This means that this is the only season where you can truly enjoy the beautiful flavour of this cherry. After extensive trial and error, a wonderfully balanced daifuku was created. The white bean jam has a mild sweet scent of cherry. Paying the slightest attention to detail, the sweet was carefully crafted in order to fully extract the fresh and juicy flavour of the cherries whilst preserving their high quality sweetness. A cherry casually sits on top of the white mochi of the daifuku. You just won’t be able to resist taking pictures of this cute treat.

  • Make Your Own Daruma at GINZA SIX’s Workshop

    D-BROS, a brand featuring products made by graphic designers, is celebrating GINZA SIX’s second anniversary by holding a workshop titled “Nihon o Asobou #04 My Daruma” on April 19.

    D-BROS began the “Nihon o Asobou” (Play With Japan) workshop project in 2018 as a way to get more people enjoying and in traditional Japanese culture and design. They have people making items that have been passed down the generations in Japan such as children’s toys, charms and folk crafts.

    The new workshop will give people the opportunity to create their very own 11cm Takasaki Daruma. This style of daruma originates in Takasaki, Gunma which is the leading producer of daruma dolls in Japan.
