New Purin Shop ‘Ise Purin no Tetsujin’ Sells Japan’s First Purin Toast

Oharai-machi is located in Ise, Mie Prefecture and is an 800-meter stone paved street that stretches from the Uji Bridge to the Naiku, or inner shrine of Ise Grand Shrine. The town is always bustling with tourists from all over Japan. There, a new shop by the name of Ise Purin no Tetsujin specializing in ‘purin,’ a type of Japanese custard pudding, has opened, and is selling the country’s first ever Purin Toast.

Purin toast uses specially made bread that’s doused in liquid purin and cooked like French toast. The outside is crunchy and the inside is fluffy. When eaten with fresh cream or soft cream the flavour only gets more delicious.

At the shop they use specially selected domestic ingredients together with 1kg (over ¥120,000) worth of natural vanilla beans from Madagascar to make their purin. Each is expertly handmade one by one to ensure that soft and velvety melt-in-your-mouth texture. They’re served in one of three flavours: the classic purin, a more retro purin that’s made with eggs and would ring nostalgic to some Japanese people, and a sweet sake purin. A famous pastry shop considered the creator of the classic purin helped in developing the purin at Ise Purin no Tetsujin.

The shop’s interior contains antique furniture to give it that retro feel. It’s retro, kawaii and a great new photo spot.

    In the town of Futami, located in Ise, Mie Prefecture is ISE Meotoiwa Meato Yokocho, one of the largest shopping facilities for souvenirs across the Shima Peninsula. Inside is the Meotoiwa Museum where they offer activities for tourists. They have just introduced the Misogi no Ashiyu, or ‘Purification Footbath,’ which uses seawater from Meotoiwa, Futami.

    Futami is a place where purification ceremonies took place at Misogi Hama, the purification beach of Futaminoura where the Meoto Iwa, or ‘Married Couple Rocks’ are located. This happened before one went to pray before the Ise Grand Shrine at a steam bath during the Edo Period, which is now next to Okitama Shrine. Additionally, in 1882, it received recognition as Japan’s first swimming area in the ocean, and bustled with members of the imperial family who used it as a health resort, including Emperor Taisho. The ocean water used in the purification footbath is normally taken from the seawater well located inside the facility. It is poured into the footbath bucket after being heated at the source of the free-flowing water.

  • The perfect souvenir from Nikkou! Pudding specialist shop Nikkoupurintei makes puddings with local ingredients!

    On Friday 21st July 2017, pudding specialist shop Nikkoupurintei opened near Nikkou Toushou-gu’s sacred “Shinkyo” bridge. This shop uses ingredients sourced from Nikko.

    Lush with nature and rich with historical cultural heritage, Nikkou is blessed with numerous tourist attractions. Now, the pudding specialist Nikkoupurintei has opened near Nikkou Toushou-gu, Shinkyo.

    The interior was once an old Japanese-style house. It has now been renovated, overflowing with a Taisho Roman theme. This cute, retro shop uses ingredients sourced from Nikko to make homemade puddings, original pudding soft cream, strawberry smoothies and much more. The shop also sells sweet treats made from strawberries sourced from Tochigi prefecture.

    Nikkoupurintei uses milk from Nikkou Kirifuri Kogen Ozasa Bokujo and eggs sourced from Nikko to make melt-in-the-mouth pudding. The milk used comes from Brown Swiss cows, which is still rare in Japan. The rich and strong taste of this milk has a hint of sweetness, which is what makes the pudding taste so special.

    With Nikkou Pudding as a base, the shop also sells a Japanese-style traditional dessert called “Mitarashi Pudding”, served up with a special sauce that was made using fresh spring water from Nikkou. Other desserts include the “Otome Pudding”, which is a strawberry jelly pudding made from tochiotome strawberries and strawberries sourced from Tochigi prefecture.

    The shop also includes a café space, so check out this place as a tourist spot too!

    Neko Neko Cheesecake, a cheesecake shop which opened in Tokyo in May, serves cat-shaped cheesecakes. This summer-only cheesecake is made using setonai lemons. It was released on Friday and will be sold in limited quantities only.

    ​The cheesecake has lemon jelly in the middle and is topped with sliced lemons grown in the Seto Inland Sea area that are baked together with the cake. It’s finished with a smear of lemon jam and cream, making for a real summertime treat.

    The exquisite shaved ice options are topped with fruit confitures which are made without any water involved, allowing for the original flavour of the fruits to come through, as well as adzuki beans cooked with Vermicular cookware, and more. The shaved ice is served inside Vermicular’s high quality mini pots, which have been kept cool, meaning the ice doesn’t melt when it’s put inside, meaning it stays nice and fluffy until the end.

    Shiseido Parlour began its annual “Midsummer Parfait Fair” at its Ginza, Tokyo branch on Wednesday which will run until August 30 and be divided into two different slots serving different parfaits. The cafe is serving up a selection of parfaits made from ice cream and local seasonal fruits under the trust that the chefs and farmers have built over the years.

    Furano, Hokkaido – Furano Melon Parfait: ¥2,100 (Tax Included)

    This parfait is made using Furamon melon which is grown in Hokkaido’s city of Furano between the mountains where there is a major temperature difference. The melon is ripened after being harvested and so make it nice and soft, giving a sweet and juicy flavour and fragrance.

    Sakai Nouen, Wakayama – Arakawa Peach Parfait: ¥2,300 (Tax Included)

    The “Arakawa” peach is a brand of peach grown in Wakayama Precture. The peaches are grown until their nearly completely ripe while in the tree, giving them a soft texture. Inside the sweet flavour is a sour kick, both of which explode with the juiciness of the peach in the parfait.

    Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa – Apple Mango Parfait: ¥2,700 (Tax Included)

    The “apple mango” is a type of mango grown in the hot climate of Okinawa. The mango has a super soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture and a sour tinge which elevates its rich sweetness.

    The “koihime” is a type of summer strawberry grown in-house by Shiseido Parlour. The strawberries get plenty of water, air, and sunlight so they grow into red jewels packed full of sweetness.

    Terrace Dining TANGO is a restaurant located in The Place of Tokyo, a wedding venue that faces Tokyo Tower. Every summer, the restaurant serves special limited-time shaved ice. They use water with absolutely no impurities that is frozen slowly over a period of 48 hours. This is turned into fluffy shaved ice which the restaurant’s patissiers drizzle in specially-made sauces. This year includes their popular brown sugar syrup-drizzled brown bear shaved ice which is always well received for its cute appearance, as well as their regular strawberry milk flavour, and a new apricot kernel and mango sauce shaved ice.

Ujitawara, the place in Kyoto where the shop is located, is famous for the tea served by Itohkyuemon which has been harvested by the Ito family for years.

    Yukai Resort, a company in Japan which manages lots of famous hot spring resorts across the country, opened Yukai Resort Premium Toba Saichoraku in Toba, Mie on June 5, 2020.

     

    Yukai Resort manages 29 well-established hot spring resort hotels and ryokan throughout Japan, including hotels where you can get one night with dinner and breakfast from just ¥7,500 (before tax) to ryokan where you can enjoy kaiseki meal courses, and more. All their luxury establishments feature hot springs surrounded in lush environments.

     

    Yukai Resort Premium Toba Saichoraku opened on June 5, 2020 and is taking all of the necessary precautions against COVID-19 to protect guests and so that guests can enjoy a comfortable stay.

     

    Yukai Resort Premium Toba Saichoraku is 10 minutes by car from Toba Aquarium and 30 minutes from Ise Grand Shrine, making it a great location to enjoy the sightseeing spots of Ise and Shima. The hotel’s concept is centred on being an “active resort” where you can get the full Toba experience with history, the sea, and activities.

    The large open-air communal baths look out onto Toba Bay. The baths are designed like infinity pools, giving the effect that they are connected to the sea. Guests can enjoy a dip in the day or evening so they can enjoy both a blue sky or starry sky. There are also saunas.

    There is also an indoor swimming pool with warm water, as well as foot baths, a kids play park, karaoke room, and many more fun features.

    Yukai Resort Premium Toba Saichoraku also houses Yukai Resort’s first ever indoor glamping guest rooms with large tents decked with beds, sofa, carpet, cushions, and other amenities for a glamorous camping experience. There are glamping rooms with their own open-air baths that look out onto Toba Bay too, as well as both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms.

    As a precaution against COVID-19, the restaurant is serving its food for takeout only until August 31, 2020. Guests can enjoy their meal in their rooms or in one of the many communal spaces. There’s plenty of health Japanese food to enjoy including sushi, Matsuzaka roast beef, eel, tuna, and more.
