Fresh Butter Sandwiches Sold at New PRESS BUTTER SAND Branch in Narita Airport

23.April.2019 | FOOD / SPOT

PRESS BUTTER SAND will open its first ever permanent airport store on April 25 at inside Airport Mall on the fourth floor of Narita Airport Terminal 2.

The shop sells only butter sandwiches. But these aren’t any sandwiches―much research has been done to make these the tastiest butter sandwiches ever made using fresh butter from Hokkaido.

The brand was established in 2017 as part of a process to create a souvenir that was sold in small batches in lieu of bigger quantity souvenir items. The first branch opened at JR Tokyo Station for a total of 7 stores, six in the Kanto region and one in Kansai. In total they sell over 10 million sandwiches a year.

The sandwiches are made using a completely original sandwich pressing machine. Each one is pressed carefully using hasamiyaki, a method which has its roots in making traditional Japanese wagashi confections.

Stuffed between the bread is a rich butter cream and smooth butter caramel. These are the only ingredients used to emphasise their flavours. The sandwiches are also pressed with the brand’s icon. They come packaged in a stylish simple grey bag with orange parts which are meant to represent molten iron. The design is an award recipient of Top Awards Asia, the only packaging design competition in Asia.

The people of the world will now be able to try these sandwiches as they commute through Narita Airport. If you’re going through there too then be on the look out for PRESS BUTTER SAND.
