For the second year in a row, Starbucks Japan will be launching its summer season promotion from Wednesday 15th May 2019. The promotional summer drinks will be slightly retro-themed and only temporary! The new menu includes pudding almond frappuccino®, a new toasted sandwich, coffee jelly cake, and much more! This new menu of nostalgic yet new beverages and meals will be introduced into most Starbucks branches across the country.
To really spread the love of Japanese coffee house culture, the retro promotional period will be complemented with a specially made logo which resembles a retro coffee shop sign. This new logo sign will be placed at 20 Starbucks cafes across Japan. Our nostalgic love is the central focal point of this promotion plan, and from this, Starbucks has created something new for everyone to enjoy. Come enjoy a special moment at Starbucks. ♪
Something nostalgic: Pudding almond frappuccino ® ¥620 (+ tax)
Pudding almond is a dessert flavour that originated in Japan. This consists of pudding and caramel, vivid fruits and whipped cream. This retro dessert flavour is stilled loved by the Japanese even to this day! As well as the aesthetics and reputation of the drink, the nostalgic lingering taste of the pudding almond flavour is also to die for. The dessert has been arranged in a typical Starbucks style ー the pudding almond frappuccino®. This drink is a brand new unique way to enjoy a dessert!
To add the finishing touches, the pudding frappuccino ® is topped off with bittersweet caramel sauce and three different types of mixed fruits: mango, strawberry, and apple. The vivid mixed fruits sparkle like jewels and add a modern touch to the drink. Last but not least, the symbolic icon; a syrup-glazed, deep red-coloured cherry garnishes the top of the whipped cream.

The Starbucks Reserve® Bar at Roastery Tokyo lets customers in on experiencing different parts of the world. Inspired by the popular Cold Brew beverage “Emerald City Mule,” Starbucks-goers can now look forward to enjoying the new Ginger Ale Cloud which will be release at the Bar on April 10.

The Perfect Protector: Shiseido’s New Sunscreen is Highly Heat and Water Resistant

Shiseido has announced the release of its new sunscreen “The Perfect Protector” which roll out worldwide in 85 countries on May 1, 2020. It will also be released at around 420 department stores and the company’s website in Japan.
In 2015, Shiseido released a new sunscreen that used “Wet Focus Technology,” meaning it was highly resistant to water, sweat and other liquids, as well as providing strong UV protection. It went on to win the Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté in the French fashion and beauty magazine Marie Claire in 2017.
The company’s new product, The Perfect Protector, makes use of SynchroShield™ーa combination of Wet Focus Technology and Heat Focus Technology, meaning this sunscreen is not only highly resistant to liquids, but heat too, ensuring even greater skin protection when you’re exposed to the sun. URBAN SENTO: The New Brand Making Japanese Bath House Clothing Stylish
“JAPAN MADE PROJECT” is a project launched by Japanese apparel shop URBAN RESEARCH which aims to revitalise regions around Japan by building local communities with businesses and creators around the country while also looking to take a step back to reconsider what is appealing about each of those regions.
As part of this new project, URBAN RESEARCH has announced its plans to establish “JAPAN MADE PROJECT TOKYO” on March 20, 2020. Focusing on Tokyo, this branch of the project will see the launch of “URBAN SENTO.” This will focus on the potential of sento, or “bath houses,” in the city, which will also include a new line of bath house clothing made in collaboration with Kosugi-yu a sento located in the Tokyo district of Koenji.
Public bath houses play an important part in Japanese culture by contributing to people’s mental health and creating communities. This is especially so in a city as busy as Tokyo. That’s where URBAN SENTO comes in, which will encourage the rediscovery of the city’s appealing culture through sento.
Pre-sales for the new clothing line opened on the URBAN RESEARCH online store on February 14, 2020. It features a collection of must-have items for the bath house, whose message is to spread the bath house lifestyle.

Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action The Final/The Beginning Movies Drop First Trailer
It was revealed last Friday that Japanese-American actor Mackenyu will play the part of Enishi in the upcoming ‘Final Chapter’ film adaptations of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s popular manga series Rurouni Kenshin. Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Final and Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Beginning will premiere in Japan on July 3, 2020 and August 7, 2020 respectively.
The original Rurouni Kenshin manga, along with its anime adaptation, is an internationally beloved series the world over that has made it to over 100 countries worldwide, including North America, UK, Europe Hong Kong, South Korea, and so on. It is one of the best-selling manga series, with over 72 million copies in circulation.
Fans have finally been given a first look at the movies in the form of a special promotional trailer.
In the trailer, we get to see Kenshin fighting in several tense-looking battle scenes. We also see several of the characters from the cast, including Kaoru Kamiya, Sanosuke Sagara, Megumi Takani, and Yahiko Myojin. At the end of the trailer, we see Kenshin confronting Enishi in a grand and epic sword fight.
The staff that have worked on the film series since the first film, released in 2014, have continued to exceed fans’ expectations when it comes to level of quality. Knowing that this is the most important arc for Kenshin, the team knew that the series wouldn’t be over unless they shot this last chapter, and so they endeavoured to deliver to fans only the best of everything. Fans of Takeru Satoh, who plays Kenshin in the film series, agreed from the start that this role is well-suited to him. He returns in The Final and The Beginning to reprise his role for the last time after one year of hard work working on the films.
The films were shot over a period of seven months, ending in June 2019, across 43 locations in Japan including Kyoto, Nara, Saga, Mie, Hyogo, Kumamoto, Hiroshima, Tochigi, Saitama, Fukuokaーthe list goes on.
The Final and The Beginning are looking to be worthy closures to the film series. With the release of this first mini trailer, fans won’t be able to settle until the films’ release.

Gorgeous Ukiyo-e iPhone Cases Released by ARTiFY in Japan
Smartphone case brand ARTiFY showcased its Klimt and ukiyo-e glitter cases at art museums in Japan last year, which was a huge hit. They were so popular that the company has decided to make them available to consumers online.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Announces New Song ‘KAMAITACHI’ at Her Concert With Yasutaka Nakata

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Yasutaka Nakata performed a two-man show entitled “Yasutaka Nakata x Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Presents SPECIAL DJ & LIVE TOUR 2020 YSTK×KPP Vol.02” at Toyosu PIT in Tokyo tonight on February 21, 2020.
The background music provided before the start of the show was music that was like from a car game. As excited fans waited with bated breath, the PlayStation startup sound rang throughout the room, at which point Kyary shouted “Time to dance!” and appeared on stage together with Nakata. They opened the show with Invader Invader -Extended Mix-.
Dancers joined the stage next for Minna no Uta -Extended Mix- and PON PON PON. The audience responded with great pleasure to Nakata and Kyary’s high-speed and ingenious song mashup. It was non-stop jumping and dancing as the performers continued to roll out more bangers like Enka Natrium, Ninja Re Bang Bang, and Mi, the bass grabbing hold of the crowd’s heart at every moment.
When Kyary and Nakata’s set reached its middle portion, they went full hardcore club mode as they performed Level Up from Nakata’s solo album Digital Native. Things got crazy when they mashed Kyary’s Fashion Monster into a trap beat with Star Wars as a Star Wars-style opening reel ran across the LED monitors.
They continued with a string of internationally-known pop songs, like Kyary’s Tsukema Tsukeru and Sokenbicha no Uta, as well as Harajuku Iyahoi. The ever-changing set kept the crowd on their feet with its mix of live music and club music.
Kyary and Nakata weren’t anywhere near finished yet however. They returned to mashup mode with Kyary’s Cherry Bon Bonーa track from her early days with a Eurobeat soundーand performed a cover of AIAIAI, which Nakata wrote for virtual YouTuber Kizuna AI, during which Kizuna AI appeared as a hidden character.
The internationally iconic SEGA logo sound then rolled across the venue before Nakata and Kyary performed a special version of Ichibanka which Nakata wrote for Japanese reggae band Shōnan no Kaze. The song is used as the main theme for the PS4® game Yakuza: Like a Dragon which will be released worldwide this year. Kyary provided some cute “Soiya Soiya!” chants during the song.
In the last spurt, they rolled out the hit tunes Kizunami and Mondai Girl before wrapping up with Oto no Kuni. Kyary pulled fans into her “Japamyu” world while Yasutaka Nakata smashed out some 8-bit video game beats.
But fans needed more, and the call for an encore didn’t die down. Kyary came out and said excitedly, “Thank you for the encore! Who’d’ve thought I’d sing some Shōnan no Kaze?! ” She also thank Nakata, before announcing the release of a new digital single entitled KAMAITACHI. Release details are TBA.
She also announced a mini 5-show tour to promote its release. The song’s lyrics have a traditional Japanese-feel to them, and so the tour too will take place at kabuki theatres around Japan.
To wrap up the concert, Kyary and Nakata performed KPP’s pop anthem Sai & Co -Extended Mix-.

Mario Question Blocks Appear in New York to Win a Trip to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is set to open at Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in 2020ーthe year of the Tokyo Olympicsーas the world’s first theme park area centred on the world, games and video game characters from Nintendo. A whopping 60 billion yen has been injected to make the park a reality.
In promotion of the park, the “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD CHALLENGE” was held in New York, US on February 19.
Fans dashed to Grand Central Terminalーa tourist hot spotーwhere the event was held to play a game involving the iconic Question Blocks from the Mario video game franchise. The set-up, which brought to mind a Bonus Stage from the game, had people hitting the question blocks just like Marioーsomething which we all must have imagined doing before.
1,000 people participated in the event which they signed up to prior. It was a day of fun for not only players but onlookers too. Grand prize winners won trips to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, which is set to open before the Tokyo Olympic Games start, while all other participants got their hands on some exclusive SUPER NINTENDO WORLD merch early.
One participant said: “I love everything about Mario, so I knew I’d definitely be taking part today! I’ve loved Mario since I was a kid, I even had a plush toy of him. Mario really is exciting. I’ve always wanted to be Mario, so I’m really happy with how today turned out. I want to go to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD with my best friend and try out all the attractions. Kirby Café HAKATA to Open Permanently in Fukuoka’s Canal City Hakata
The second permanent Kirby Café, themed entirely on Nintendo’s popular video game series Kirby’s Dream Land, is set to open in Canal City Hakata in Fukuoka on March 12, 2020.
Kirby Café HAKATA has its own story that the cafe is based around. One day, Kirby motioned Whispy Woods to help him collect the tools needed to open another Kirby café. Together with Whispy Woodsーwho appears in the cafeーKirby will serve hospitality to his customers.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Turns Voice Actress in Upcoming New Crayon Shin-chan Movie
Crayon Shin-chan: Crash! Rakuga Kingdom and Almost Four Heroes is the 28th and newest anime film to enter the beloved Crayon Shin-chan series, which is set to release in Japan on April 24, 2020.
Crayon Shin-chan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshito Usui. It was first serialised in Weekly Manga Action in 1990, and subsequently received its first anime adaptation in 1992. Since then, it has become one of the most recognisable and loved series in Japan.
The story of Crayon Shin-chan: Crash! Rakuga Kingdom and Almost Four Heroes is as follows: For many years, a giant kingdom fuelled by doodles created by humans has been peacefully floating in the sky. As time has gone by, less and less people have been doodling, resulting in fuel supplies running critically low. As the kingdom crumbles, doodles have been falling from the sky. As the kingdom starts to face the threat of complete collapse, the kingdom’s forces soon get on the case, forcing the innocent people of earth to produce more doodles to save the kingdom. The kingdom just happens to be floating above the city of Shin-chan’s residence: Kasukabe. Knowing that the lives of many are at stake, the princess of the Rakuga Kingdom entrusts the Kingdom’s sacred Miracle Crayon to a hero – the five-year-old, mischievous and carefree Shin-chan. Shin-chan harnesses the power of the miracle crayon, drawing up a superhero team to save the world. Shin-chan’s three drawings jump right out of the sketch book and right into action in an attempt to save the day.
Voicing the part of the princess, who entrusts Shin-chan with saving the Rakuga Kingdom, is none other than Kyary Pamyu Pamyuーwho herself is a huge fan of Crayon Shin-chan.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s song Kimi ni 100 Percent (2013) was used as the 15th opening theme for the Crayon Shin-chan anime series, and maintains the record for being used the longest out of all of the series’ opening themes. It was also used as the opening theme for the 2014 film Crayon Shin-chan: Intense Battle! Robo Dad Strikes Back. Kyary even appeared in the series as herself. Her history with the series has led her to being recognised as a member of the Shin-chan family.
Kyary received the offer to voice the princess in the upcoming new film after the production team heard her voice work for the character Mecchaka in the NHK Educational TV series u&i. They were impressed by the voice work, and initially didn’t know it was Kyary. After finding out it was, they sent her the offer.
Kyary is a huge fan of Crayon Shin-chan and read the manga religiously. She is now taking this opportunity to challenge herself to some real seiyū anime voice acting. But it doesn’t stop there either, as she will also perform the opening theme for the film too. Titled Rakugaki Ouen Taishi (“Support Ambassador for Rakugaki”), the song is centred around the Rakuga Kingdom.

I’ve been collecting and reading the Shin-chan manga since elementary school. Whenever I scored 100 in a test my dad would buy me a volume. I was bad at studying, but Shin-chan helped me work hard. He’s like the hero who scooped me up and saved me! As a fan I’m super happy too, since this movie is based on a part from the manga series. Tokyo Disneyland® Celebrates Opening Of New Park Area With Special Menu Line-Up
Tokyo Disneyland’s new biggest area is set to open on April 15, 2020, which will house four new exciting facilities: the new Beauty and the Beast attraction, the Fantasyland Forest Theatre, the Baymax’s Happy Ride attraction, and the Minnie’s Style Studio.
To celebrate the new area’s opening, several restaurants and eateries in Tokyo Disneyland will serve up some special menu items. Participating restaurants are calling this special menu line-up “New Dreams, More Fun!” Let’s take a look.
Sparkling Drink (Mixed Fruits) – ¥450 @ Boiler Room Bites and elsewhere
Boiler Room Bites and other eateries in the park are serving these colourful sparkling drinks packed full of fresh fruit pieces. The cups have special designs of Disney characters like Mickey mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Baymax.
Special Set – ¥990 @ Refreshment Corner
The special set being served at Refreshment Corner is inspired by Beauty and the Beast. It includes an apple cinnamon hot dog (contains nuts), a unique combination of juicy sausage, cinnamon, caramel, and nuts.
Blue Bayou Course – ¥5,200 @ Blue Bayou Restaurant
Another Beauty and the Beast-inspired dish is this special full course served at the Blue Bayou Restaurant. Buffet-style eatery Crystal Palace Restaurant will also serve up new dishes themed on each of the four new facilities of the new area starting on June 1, with a new one being introduced with each season.
