Human Lost Anime Film Main Theme to be Performed by m-flo feat. J Balvin

06.July.2019 | ANIME&GAME / MOVIE / MUSIC

Human Lost is an upcoming animated film adaptation of Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai’s 1948 novel Ningen Shikkaku (No Longer Human). It is set for worldwide release in 2019, which would mark Dazai’s 110th birthday were he alive today.

The film was screened at Anime Expo 2019 in Los Angeles, which is running July 4-7, where music unit m-flo made a surprise appearance to announce that they are in charge of the film’s main theme HUMAN LOST. They also revealed that the song will feature Grammy-nominated international reggaeton singer J Balvin.

The above new teaser for the film was also released featuring the first preview of the song.

The film’s soundtrack will be composed by Yugo Kanno (Psycho-Pass anime & live-action) while the sound director will be Yoshikazu Iwanami (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse).

The m-flo members commented about their tie-up with the film. LISA spoke about the main theme, saying: “When it came to writing the melody for our part of this song, I had quite a few birth pangs, which is rare for me. Even though we were under the usual skies of Guam where we always go to record, I hit a hard wall, to the point that I escaped for a few weeks at ☆Taku’s request [laughs]. I felt a huge energy in his track and inside that power, speed, and a gentleness and effortlessness. Just by listening to his track I felt a spirit inside all of those emotions and tried to convey them through the melody, lyrics, and vocals. The song is like a roller coaster of emotions!”

VERBAL commented on the film itself: “Human Lost has a very dark and moving story based on something that could actually happen to society in the future. It was great momentum when recording the song.”

Taku Takahashi left a comment for fans looking forward to the film: “Anime is form of art that disputes in the real world. I am so grateful to be part of such a film. We’re mixing the sound in a way that it is three-dimensional so it can be enjoyed at the cinema, so be sure you go to see it!”

The film’s story is set in 2036. A breakthrough in medical science has led to the creation of nanomachines, and the S.H.E.L.L. system that controls them, which ensures humans are free from disease and injury and extends their lifespan to 120. But this ultimate social system has warped the Japanese nation in a number of ways, whether it be economical disparities, serious environmental pollution, or the “Human Lost” phenomenon that malforms people disconnected from the S.H.E.L.L. network.

    Q. Please leave a comment for all fans who are looking forward to seeing the film.

“The style of the script is different from usual. We had prescoring, and the content [of the film] is nothing short of challenging. Whether it’s one person or a lot of people, I hope we can all witness the moment that this mysterious… “thing” is born.

    Haruka Chisuga (Tsuneko) Q&A

“Tsuneko was always thinking of attracting the interest of Oba, but I think there’s an air of despair there somewhere. Q. Please leave a comment for all fans who are looking forward to seeing the film.

“Human Lost is dark and heavy. When I came into contact with this work I felt that feeling of speed you get in sci-fi entertainment. It’s a very strange feeling. Q&A with Jun Fukuyama

    Q. What is your opinion on your character Takeuchi?

In the world of the film, life is prolonged. You may get injured but you won’t die. In this world, Takeuchi faces the danger of reckless behavior from the desperate desire to die, however he seems like a strong-willed character who grasps his identity and takes his life into his own hands. There is no sense of tragic heroism about him, however. Takeichi comes to terms with his life and starts to push forward, striving to lead a life full of enjoyment and pleasure.

    Q. Do you have any words for the fans who are looking forward to the release of the film?

The more I think about the film, the more my heart races. My palms get sweaty just thinking about it! To all Human Lost fans; I am looking forward to seeing how different people relate to the film. Please watch the film at the cinema when it is released!

    28.March.2019 | ANIME&GAME / MOVIE

It was announced at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo that Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai’s 1948 novel Ningen Shikkaku (No Longer Human) is getting an anime adaptation entitled Human Lost.

Several of the film’s staff appeared at the event to talk about the adaptation including director Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai), Shuzou Shiota of Polygon Pictures, and Toshiki Obata of slowcurve.

The story is set in 2036. A breakthrough in medical science has led to the creation of nanomachines, and the S.H.E.L.L. system that controls them, which ensures humans are free from disease and injury and extends their lifespan to 120. But this ultimate social system has warped the Japanese nation in a number of ways, whether it be economical disparities, serious environmental pollution, or the “Human Lost” phenomenon that malforms people disconnected from the S.H.E.L.L. network.

Below are statements made by the staff members who attended the event in Chicago.

Fuminori Kizaki (Director): “I’ve devoted most of the past 3-4 years on this film. Though much trial and error was carried out, though the film is a piece of sci-fi action entertainment worth seeing, it still has the elements of a ‘human drama’ that flow in the original work Ningen Shikkaku, like human frailness. I want people to look forward to those things.”

Shuzou Shiota (Polygon Pictures): “We put in a lot of work to create Polygon Pictures’s first original feature-length animated film. The visuals have evolved a stepped further from the masterpieces of film up to now. I feel confident about the results, so I hope people look forward to seeing it.”

Toshiki Obata (Producer): “I wanted to give the world once again the kind of Japanese sci-fi movie that spreads across the globe like KIRA or Ghost in the Shell. That’s I started this project back in 2015. We thought it could be interesting to use the material in Osamu Dazai’s Ningen Shikkaku to make it into sci-fi action. We did so daringly, and have polished and refined it without rest.
