Visiting the Weathering With You Cafe Now Open in Tokyo and Osaka
LEGS COMPANY opened two cafes themed on the hit anime film Weathering with You in Tokyo and Osaka on October 8 and October 10 respectively. The cafes will run for a limited time only.
We paid a visit to the Tokyo branch which opened inside OMOTESANDO BOX CAFE & SPACE which is only a 7-minute walk from Omotesando Station.
The new blockbuster hit from internationally-acclaimed animator and film director Makoto Shinkai Weathering with You dropped back on July 19 and has since amassed over 13 billion yen (approximately US$131 million) in the box office. It was seen by 7.5 million people in the first 34 days of its release, and over 10 million after 75 days. Its huge success has cemented itself in the Japanese animated film industry as another monumental masterpieces from Shinkai. The film has also been nominated for Best International Feature Film for the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards set to take place on February 9, 2020.
The cafe menu features a line-up of drinks, dishes and desserts inspired by the characters and moments in the series, including the chahan set prepared by Hina for Hodaka, the Hodaka Welcome Party Set, and more.
Teru Teru Omurice – ¥1,490
This is the dish I ordered to eat. I couldn’t resist how cute it was. It’s inspired by the teru teru bōzu that Nagi makes, a traditional Japanese doll used to prevent rain and bring good weather. The doll’s head is made of mashed potato. He’s sat on a bed of ketchup rice filled with vegetables and bathed in a delicious sauce. This one’s too cute it almost seems a waste to eat♡
Nagi’s Teru Teru Bōzu À La Mode – ¥1,490
For dessert I ordered another teru teru bōzu treat. This one is made from gyūhi, a type of Japanese confection made from rice flour. Its head is filled with vanilla ice cream, and if you turn it over, you’ll find Japanese pudding underneath, and under that granola. It’s finished with a lining of bright blue lychee jelly around the outside for a hint of freshness.
The cafe offers plenty of other dishes that will leave any Weathering with You fans spoiled for choice.
Hina’s Handmade Sesame Oil Infused Pea Sprout Potato Chahan Set – ¥1,490
A chahan set lovingly prepared by Hina for Hodaka. Chop up the spring onions that come on the side and add them to the soup just like Hina does in the film! This is a hearty set sure to fill you up.
Hodaka’s Welcome Party Set – ¥1,590
This one-person set was made lovingly by Natsume when Hodaka comes to work at the same company as her, K&A. If you’re looking for a healthy green meal packed with veggies then you’ll love this one.
Clearing Up Weather Tiramisu – ¥1,490
This refreshing matcha tiramisu is inspired by the scene when Hina and Hodaka reunite, with the sauce representing the sunlight and the cotton candy the rainy clouds. Pour the sauce over the cotton candy and watch the clouds clear up.
Acai Bowl of the World’s Secrets – ¥1,390
Enjoy the main key visual of the film right on top of your plate. The mild flavour of the yogurt coupled with the refreshing kiwi is a mouth-watering combination. The colours are really beautiful, too.
Swirling Snow Whipped Latte – ¥990
Inspired by the immense snow that spirals around Tokyo in the film, a cup of this whipped cream latte is perfect as a post-meal wind-down.
Left: The Fine Weather That Day (Grapefruit) – ¥1,690 / Right: The Sunset That Day (Cranberry) – ¥1,690
These two drinks are for takeout, and are based on iconic scenes in the film, specifically when the turns fine and the sunset. They are served in exclusive cafe-original bottles. Both flavours are sweet, sour and refreshing. Plus, you can reuse the bottles.
If you order one of the many drinks from the menu you’ll receive one of six possible coasters chosen randomly.
The cafe has plenty of exclusive merchandise on their shelves too.
Sparkly Rain Smartphone Case (7/8 Ver. & X Ver.) – ¥3,900 Each
When you shake these iPhone cases, it looks like the rain is falling.
Raindrop Stickers (10 Designs) – ¥400
Don’t you just want to collect all of these cute raindrop stickers?
If you book a seat in advance (¥650 before tax per person) you will receive one of six possible bromide pictures chosen randomly, so don’t forget to reserve in advance.
Plunge yourself into the world of Weathering with You at either one of these cafes, now running until November 17.

Succulent Amaou Strawberries From Fukuoka Take These Desserts to the Next Level
26.January.2020 | FOOD
BAKE CHEESE TART, a company in Japan specialising in baked cheese tarts (hence the name), is releasing two new desserts on February 15, 2020. Made with amaou strawberries, the Amaou Ichigo Cheese Tart and Amaou Ichigo Sundae will be served for a limited time until March 31, 2020.
The Amaou Ichigo Cheese Tart was first released in February last year as a seasonal product for spring where it was well-received by sweet-tooth customers. They were so popular in fact that there was growing demand from them for it to return, so BAKE CHEESE TART is delivering that sumptuous request. Topping decoratively with freeze-dried amaou strawberries, the tarts are a sweet call to the coming spring.
The Fukuoka-grown strawberries have been nicknamed the “King of Strawberries.” The tarts are filled with a creamy cheese mousse and mixed with a puree made from the sweet berries. They add a rich sweetness to the slightly sour mousse, bringing together a mix of delightful flavours that will leave you wanting another. They also give the inside a light pink colour.
The Amaou Ichigo Sundae has a dollop of soft serve ice cream so soft it’s almost like melted fresh cream. It’s topped with a sauce and powder made from those incredible strawberries, as well as freeze-dried strawberries. This bright-red mountain of a dessert is a satisfying experience to both look at and consume.
While these two desserts are being sold, they will be served in special springtime packaging designed by creative studio KLOKA, a notable player in the creative scene that has had a hand in art direction for fashion magazines, shopping centre displays, and more.

3 Breathtaking New Rooms to Open at Hoshino Resorts OMO7 Asahikawa
25.January.2020 | SPOT
Hoshino Resorts OMO7 Asahikawa, a branch of Hoshino Resorts’ hotels for tourists and travellers, has announced that it is opening three new room types to guests from April 1 to make their stay and travels that much better. They are the “Double Room,” “Superior Room,” and “Family Room.”
OMO7 Asahikawa opened in Hokkaido April 2018 as the first branch of Hoshino Resorts’s “OMO” brand of city tourism hotels. The hotel offers not only a great sleep, but enjoys the benefit of its location with must-see sights surrounding it, and all of this to make guests’ stay the best it can be.
The hotel’s Studio Rooms, formerly named the DANRAN Room before the renovation, have received praise from guests that have stayed there for offering everything they needed while being compact, as well as it being easy to kick back and relax in them. It was revealed that in 2019, the average number of people staying in a single room at Hoshino Resorts OMO7 Asahikawa was higher than the average of that in other city hotels in Asahikawa, as well as the hotel being popular for catering to tourist and sightseers’ needs.
The hotel has now renovated 111 of its rooms in response to it being used by a lot of people because of its catering towards tourists’ needs. It has also added the three new types of roomsーDouble, Superior, and Familyーwhich incorporate the well-received functionality of the Studio Rooms. That’s 226 room renovations out of the hotel’s 237 rooms.
All beds have storage space underneath them. Those travelling in big groups like families will especially benefit from this if they have a lot of luggage as they can save on plenty of space in rooms.
New rooms are furnished with new sofas and tables for maximum comfort amongst friends and family where they can talk about their trip while enjoying local drinks and snacks.
Also, in the Superior Rooms and Family Rooms, where there is a small amount of guests, beds can be folded and turned into spacious sofas.
The OMO brand promises “a reasonable price for your travels,” and this rings true: the new Family Rooms start at ¥5,500, allowing an affordable stay so you can spend more on the local sights.
Room bookings will open on February 3, 2020, so if you’re visiting Hokkaido, be sure to check out Hoshino Resorts OMO7 Asahikawa.

You Can Take Your Pets to These Hotels and Accommodations in Japan
20.January.2020 | SPOT
Online travel booking website Rakuten Travel has released this year’s list for the most popular hotels and accommodations you can stay at with pets in Japan. The list is based off travellers’ reviews taken from the website. This list has been updated and published every year since 2014, making this its 6th run.
Placing number one on the list for the first time is Yutsura, a ryokan Japanese-style inn which opened in Shizuoka in April 2018 and can be rented by one person or group for one night. Up to six people in a single group can stay there along with up to 5 small dogs weighing 5kg or less. It’s highly favoured amongst travellers who want to take their dogs on the road due to the extent the inn caters for pets. Guests can enjoy having the dogs in their rooms as well as feed their pets there, all without being a bother to other guests.
Nipponia Sawara Merchant Town Hotel in Chiba Prefecture came in second place. You can feel the history of this hotel accommodation which is renovated from a traditional storehouse and townhouse. It allows up to three pets in a room which collectively weigh 25kg. There are three types of rooms to choose from, including one with a dog park. It also offers various services, including a free night for one dog, snacks and amenities for dogs, and more.
In third place is Dog Pension R65 in Shizuoka Prefecture which allows not only big and small dogs, but cats and other pets too. It offers large footbaths for dogs to use, dog parks, and many other services that cater to pets. The hotel also offers cottage-type accommodation rooms separate from the main building too if you’re looking to spend some peaceful time away with your beloved companion.

Kaori’s Easy Recipe: Learn to Make My Melody Strawberry Purin
With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s easy recipe! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.
As strawberries are currently in season in Japan, today we’ll be looking at an easy recipe for delicious strawberry purin. All you have to do is mix the ingredients and you’re done! In previous recipes, we’ve looked at purin recipes that involve decorating the inside of the glass. Many people commented that this is quite difficult so today we’ve got a recipe that is easy enough for even kids.
Ingredients (For 2 Portions)
Two small jars (this recipe uses Weck jars)
200g Strawberries with stems and leaves removed (approximately one small pack)
20ml Fresh Cream (or milk to substitute)
5g Gelatin (dissolved in a tablespoon of water)
½ Teaspoon Lemon Juice
Premade Chocolate Decorations or Chocolate Slices (as you like)
Strawberries to Decorate (as you like)
Fresh Cream (As you Like)
2: After removing the leaves and stems from the strawberries, blend them in a mixer.
3: Heat the mixture in a microwave on 600w for 50 seconds. Afterwards, add the sugar, gelatin solution and lemon juice in that order. Finally, mix in the fresh cream.
4: Meanwhile, press the premade chocolate decorations or sliced chocolate (white) into the inside wall of your jar.
5: Use the chocolate pen to draw the face, strawberries and ribbons from the outside of the glass. If you make a mistake, wipe it off using kitchen paper and try again.
6：Put the jar into the fridge for the chocolate to harden. Once the chocolate does not sink when the jar is placed upright, slowly add your strawberry mixture into the jar and put it back in the fridge until hard. After your dessert solidifies, you can add the finishing touches of whipped cream and strawberries.
And you’re done!
