Rilakkuma x Tower Records Collaboration Sees Themed Cafe, Exclusive Merchandise & More

Tower Records is collaborating with Rilakkuma for “Rilakkuma x TOWER RECORDS Campaign 2020” which will run at Tower Records, TOWERmini, and Tower Records Online in Japan from August 1 to 30.f

For the campaign, Tower Records selling a range of merchandise with exclusive designs illustrated for the event, and there’ll even be Rilakkuma themed cafes. Tower Records began collaborating with Rilakkuma on merchandise in 2009 and has done so every year since. This year sees the arrival of Chairoikoguma for the first time too.

Yhose who use the Tower Records app to show their coupons in-store, they will receive the above-pictured selection of must-have exclusive goodies including a mirror, postcard, bag, and bookmark. These are available on a first-time, first-served basis. Additionally, Rilakkuma themed cafes will be held at TOWER CARDS CAFE branches in Omotesando, Nagoya SKYLE, and Sapporo PIVOT which will have entirely original menus and bonus items for dining there.

Rilakkuma and the Honey Forest’s Concert Cafe

The entire cafe menu line-up is so cute you’re completely spoilt for choice.

Rilakkuma and the Honey Forest’s Concert Dessert Plate: ¥2,500

“Honey Forest Concert” is the theme of the cafe, and this image is captured in the adorable dessert plate which is topped with various desserts and fruits. Everyone who orders one of these also receives a free sticker.

Rilakkuma’s Meatball Stew: ¥1,580

This hot meatball stew is served in a cute bread cup with Rilakkuma poking his head out from inside.

Kiiroitori’s Omurice: ¥1,580

Kiiroitori’s face is made from omelette and rice. Served with a side of healthy veg.

A sweet and sour mix of honey and lemon.

Korilakkuma’s Strawberry Calpis: ¥850

Strawberries are Korilakkuma’s favourite, and that’s the flavour of this refreshingly sweet Calpis drink, topped with Korilakkuma vanilla ice cream.

    The popular character Rilakkuma was recently appointed as the tourism ambassador for Chiyoda City in Tokyo. To commemorate this lofty position, Tokyo Daijingu Shrine will begin offering Ema decorated with Rilakkuma starting December 1, 2021. Ema are small wooden plaques found at shrines, and visitors can write their wishes or prayers on them before hanging them up for the Gods to receive them. 

     

    Tokyo Daijingu was built in the early Meiji period so that residents of Tokyo could worship the many deities enshrined at the Grand Shrine of Ise from afar. Originally built in Hibiya, the shrine was moved to Iidabashi in 1928 after the Kanto Earthquake. 

     

    Rilakkuma became the tourism ambassador for Chiyoda in August and aims to convey the many charms of the area to as many people as possible. These Ema feature an original Rilakkuma design along with the crest of Tokyo Daijingu.

  • Banana Fish Collaboration Cafe and Bar Coming to Tokyo and Osaka

    While the Banana Fish anime series will make you cry, this new collaboration cafe will have guests smiling from ear to ear. This stylish New York-inspired cafe and bar will be open from November 25, 2021, until January 16, 2022, in Tokyo, and from December 2, 2021, until January 30, 2022 in Osaka. Guests can enjoy dishes and drinks inspired by the show’s characters and can grab some limited merchandise too. 

     

    Banana Fish began as a manga series in 1985 and was created by Akio Yoshida. Set in New York City, the series follows the teenage gang leader Ash Lynx as he tries to overcome his painful past and solve the mystery of ‘banana fish,’ a strange drug that drove his brother mad during the war in Vietnam. He is joined by Eiji Okumura, a Japanese college student and photographer’s assistant who arrives in America to help with a story about gang violence.

  • Birth Book Coffee in Tokushima Offering Santa & Reindeer Inspired Daifuku

    Located in Tokushima, Birth Book Coffee specializes in both a tasty cup of joe and a delightful selection of dango and fruit daifuku. Daifuku is a Japanese sweet made of small round mochi filled with sweet filling, typically red bean paste. It’s the perfect snack to have with a warm drink, and now, Birth Book Coffee has unveiled some Christmas-themed sweets!

    If Christmas isn’t your thing, the shop is also selling sweets shaped like animals from the Chinese zodiac. 

     

    Birth Book Coffee is a sweets shop, a coffee shop, and a book shop all in one. Employees make the sweets by hand each day, and invite guests to curl up with a nice story as they enjoy the calming environment. Each Daifuku is made using Shiga Habutae Mochi Rice, one of the three most glutinous rice varieties in Japan. It’s stickier and sweeter, making for a more rich treat. The reindeer Daifuku is flavored with caramel milk, and the Santa with red bean paste. Be sure to take a shot of them for social media, or give them as a gift!

     

    The Matcha Chocolate Strawberry and White Chocolate Strawberry Daifuku are only available during winter, so try to snag them before they’re gone!

  • Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon Collaboration Cafe Coming to Shinsaibashi and Nagoya

    Originally held within Shibuya PARCO, the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon cafe is hitting the road! Starting November 11 at Shinsaibashi PARCO and November 27 at Nagoya PARCO, guests can enjoy a variety of Yashahime-themed food and merchandise for a limited time. The Shibuya location finished its run on November 9, and the new visual shows the show’s characters in front of a traditional tea house.

  • Gintama Taking Over Capcom Cafe Ikebukuro, Main Visual Unveiled

    Gintama is one of the best-selling manga series of all time in Japan, with over 55 copies in print. Beginning in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2003, the sci-fi comedy was filled with jokes pulled from current pop culture and news before it came to an end in 2019. Despite the story being over, Gintama is popular enough to deserve another collaboration cafe! From November 19 until December 23, the series will take over the Capcom Cafe at Q Plaza Ikebukuro! This will be the second collab with the Capcom Cafe, the first being held in February 2021 to celebrate the final Gintama film. Details on the menu and original merchandise will be released soon, so be sure to check back!

     

    The main visual for the upcoming event features chibi sketches of popular characters from the series alongside tasty dishes, including Gintoki Sakata, Shinpachi, Kagura, Hijikata, Okita, Katsura, and Takasugi.

  • ‘Cheri+ 10th Anniversary Exhibition’ to be Held at Tower Records Shibuya

    The ‘Cheri+ 10th Anniversary Exhibition’ will be held in the Tower Records Shibuya 8F SpaceHACHIKAI exhibition room between November 13 and December 26 2021.

     

    ‘Cheri+’ is a BL comic magazine from Shinshokan. It was first published as an extra in Shinshokan’s ‘Dear+’ magazine in 2011, branching out into its own publication in 2016. A huge number of color and monotone illustrations from the magazine’s series will be displayed at the exhibition throughout the first and second sessions, with a total of 39 artists participating.

     

    The exhibition will also include life-size panels featuring all-new artwork and a gorgeous photo spot. Visitors will also receive a free double-sized manga page, with a story that can only be read by visiting the exhibition.

  • Sengoku Basara Takes Over Capcom Cafe in Saitama for a Limited Time

    From November 19 until December 23, 2021, the AEON Lake Town Capcom Cafe in Saitama will be taken over by the Sengoku Basara series!

     

    The main visual for the collaboration shows life-size characters from the series rather than the chibi versions that have appeared at previous Capcom Cafe events. Six famous generals from the Sengoku period are featured: Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Ishida Mitsunari, Chosokabe Motochika, and Mori Motonari. More details about the menu and merchandise will be released soon, so stay tuned!

    Sylvanian Families is a line of collectible animals made of flocked plastic, originally released in Japan in 1977. Made to place inside dollhouses, these little creatures have remained popular worldwide since release. This cafe will feature original goods and dishes, including five dishes inspired by the members of the marching band shown in the event’s main visual. Inside the store, there will be large dolls and an original diorama that can only be seen during the Omotesando event.
