Snoopy Design Eco Bags Release in Collaboration With 11 Brands

Fashion, beauty, and creative company MASH Holdings has announced a collaboration with the Peanuts comic strip titled “TAKE CARE WITH PEANUTS” which sees the arrival of an eco bag collection in collaboration with 11 different fashion brands. The bags were released at USAGI ONLINE, as well as other online stores and shops in Japan on April 28.

    BEAMS Japan will begin selling cotton shopping bags starting on May 1, scrapping the vinyl shopping bags it has been using until now in an effort to become a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly brand. Being made from natural cotton means no throwing away of plastic, plus it can be reused for a long time.

    The iconic BEAMS vinyl shopping bag was first introduced in 1986 and was adored for its convenient draw cord function, durability, and reusability. It became synonymous with BEAMS for etching its mark into the history of Shibu Kaji, or Shibuya’s casual culture. These bags were free to customers and were made down to the finest details just like clothing attire, from the inking to the braiding. Since their release, the bags have never undergone design or shape changes. The only thing that has been changed over the years is the material used for the eyelet where the cord is strung through in order to make it easier to separate. Additionally, part of the raw materials were changed to plant-based in order to reduce the reliance on oil resources.

     

    BEAMS, which has been in operation for 45 years now, is now getting involved with the sustainable recovery efforts that have come even more to the forefront of the international stage during the pandemic. Their vinyl bags, of which 390,000 are made every year, will be abolished, and replaced with GOTS-certified organic cotton bags and sold for ¥550 (tax included) to customers who purchase something at BEAMS.

     

    BEAMS has been making efforts to reduce since 1999, when it first introduced its scheme to gives shoppers the option to donate ¥100 to the OISCA Children’s Forest Program which “educates school children and communities about the environment through tree planting and other related environmental activities.” In total, it has raised over 30 million yen. With the introducing of the new cotton bags, this scheme will continue, with 10% of all proceeds made from sales of the bags to be donated to the program.



    Additionally, BEAMS introduced FSC-certified paper bags to all BEAMS OUTLET and BEAMS GOLD stores in November 2020 and January 2021 respectively. It also released paper water packs in September 2020 which has saved on 60,000 PET bottles every year.

  • Snoopy Town Shop to Open in Kobe

    Peanuts fans will be excited to know that KIDDYLAND is set to open the new Snoopy Town Shop in Kobe on April 29, 2021.

    The theme of the new shop is “Happiness is…a warm puppy” which will be echoed in its cute decor and line-up of merchandise. The shop is incorporating a farmhouse style which combines traditional Kobe designs with a contemporary taste that elicits a sense of nostalgia. Inside, shoppers will find the Peanuts gang relaxed and chilling around the shop along the shelves and up the official gallery wall where scenes from the comics trip will be depicted.

  • Stylish Bags and Sneakers Arrive at Camper’s Pop-Up Shop in Isetan Shinjuku

    Shoe, boots, and sneaker brand Camper opened a pop-up shop at Isetan Shinjuku on Wednesday which is set to run until April 27. The shop is a collaboration with Japanese textile designer Masaru Suzuki who has provided his iconic designs to a collection of bags and sneakers that you can get your hands on. The shop also has a display designed by Suzuki.

    This marks Camper’s third long-awaited collaboration with Masaru Suzuki and the first in four years, and this time the series adds shoes to the mix in addition to the popular bags. Suzuki visited Camper’s main office in Majorca, Spain, for detailed discussions on the designs.

     

    Suzuki is set to attend the pop-up event on April 17. Customers who spend over ¥5,500 (tax included) on this day will receive a fabric swatch signed by Suzuki. Additionally, the men’s building of Isetan Shinjuku is also opening its CAMALEON 1975 pop-up shop once again selling shoes made from recycled materials from Camper.   • Sustainable Fashion Week Event to Take Place at Earth Day Tokyo 2021

    Earth Day Tokyo 2021 is set to run from April 17 to April 25 both online and offline. Messages of eco-friendliness, organic products, sustainability, ethics, and inclusiveness will be at the core of various events held as part of the festival and it will bring together environmental NPOs, charities, and locals.

     

    As part of this year’s Earth Day Tokyo, sustainability and fashion are set to interweave with the SUSTAINABLE FASHION WEEK 2020+1 event which is running on April 24 and 25.

    With less than nine years to go until the world must achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Earth Day Tokyo believes individuals need to be doing more to change their lifestyles and the way they do certain things. Fashion is an area that enrichens people’s lives—but it’s also one that can call for environmental action by changing our consumption habits.


    SUSTAINABLE FASHION WEEK 2020+1 will bring together various teams and organisations to hold booths and talk sessions online and offline where people can learn about these issues. It’s a collaboration between Fashion Revolution Japan, the Japanese branch of the global Fashion Revolution campaign to reform the fashion industry by enabling a greater transparency in the fashion supply chain amongst other problems. Fashion Revolution Week takes place every year on April 24, the same date as the 2013 Dhaka garment factory collapse where 1,134 people died and more than 2,500 people were injured.

    The main visual for SUSTAINABLE FASHION WEEK 2020+1 features Japanese singer and artist KOM_I who is best known as a member of the Japanese music group WEDNESDAY CAMPANELA. It was created by HYPE FREE WATER, an artist collective headed by KOM_I and art director Minori Murata. KOM_I will participate in a planned talk program at MIYASHITA PARK on April 24 and 25.

  • JIMOTOTE Tote Bag Releases Releases Tokyo Tama Collection

    JIMOTO is a company in Japan whose products and concept is designed around returning to your home or a place you love. Their tote bag brand, JIMOTOTE, is now introducing Tama design bags centred on the Tama area of Tokyo on their official website and at shops around Tama on April 16. They will also be sold at a pop-up shop in as well as at Nonowa Kunitachi from April 16 to 18.

    JIMOTO stands for jibun ni modoru tokoro, which is Japanese for that concept of returning to your local region – to your roots. The JIMOTOTE brand started in 2015 with bags design around Hokkaido before introducing Kyushu and Shonan. Tama comes as the fourth entry to the series and includes Kunitahci, Tachikawa, Kichijoji, Chofu, and Hachioji.

     

  • Earth Day Tokyo 2021 to Promote Sustainability, Eco-Friendliness, and an Organic Lifestyle at Yoyogi Park

    This year’s Earth Day Tokyo will take place at Yoyogi Park from April 17-18 where messages of eco-friendliness, organic products, sustainability, ethics, and inclusiveness will be at the core of various events held as part of the festival.

     

    This year marks Earth Day Tokyo’s 20th run as part of the global Earth Day initiative and brings together environmental NPOs, charities, and locals. Due to COVID-19, in-person events will only take place on April 17 and 18 but the festival will run online from April 17 to 25.

     

    Earth Day Tokyo 2021 Concert

    Concerts will take place across the two-day Yoyogi Park festival. Many musicians and guests have committed themselves to the future of the planet at the Earth Day Tokyo’s concerts, with past line-ups including Japan’s King of Rock Kiyoshiro Imawano, UA, BONNIE PINK, and more.

     

    This year will see performances from Itou Seikou ITP, Kenichi Nagira, yae, scoobie do, Taiji Sato, Nozomi Nobody, hachi_Aigoz, tico moon, Rokuta Yanagiya, and Ichido Ryutei.

     

    Market area

    Every single product at the market booths has a story, and visitors will be able to hear about them from the makers in-person as they shop. And the items sold at the market will be different each day, stocking something to add a little environmental consideration into our lives.

     

    C. W. Nicol’s “Nicol’s Forest Kitchen” sausages help plant forests

    The late Welsh-born Japanese writer, actor, and singer-songwriter C. W. Nicol was the Executive Committee Chairman for Earth Day Tokyo from 2000 until his passing last year. He also launched Nicol’s Forest Kitchen in 2011 which has been a regular at Earth Day Tokyo to help protect Japan’s forests. The food stall will make an appearance this year too.

     

    C. W. Nicol began to wonder how he could help raise people’s interest in forests as well as help revitalise forests that had been destroyed. Nicol’s Forest Kitchen project was his answer: to spread awareness through food, and in doing so, the project could help build up forests.

     

    Visitors separate garbage themselves with the help of volunteers

    At the Eco Station, volunteer staff will help direct visitors in separating garbage properly, raising awareness on the proper procedures which they can take away home with them.

  • KEEN x Murasaki Sports Collaborate on Footwear Release

    Murasaki Sports and outdoor/footwear brand KEEN released a new limited-edition model of KEEN’s NEWPORT H²O shoes, the NEWPORTのH2, on April 10.

    The designer for the alternative models is GRINDLODGE garage project who have captured the gorgeous ocean with the sun and trees reflected on the water surface on them. This design is created using the company’s grinder tool which makes each and every pair of shoes unique. The footwear is equipped with KEEN’s Newport H2 technology so they can be worn both in and out of the water.



    Murasaki Sports is donating 10% of the proceeds made from these limited-edition models to Umi Sakura to help keep Japan’s oceans clean. Additionally, Umi Sakura, Murasaki Sports, and KEEN will begin rolling out their two-month #ACTIONFORCHANGE campaign this month in the run up to World Oceans Day which begins on June 8, 2021.


    Murasaki Sports aims to teach more people engaged in sports such as surfing about importance preserving the environment through this campaign and footwear release. The brand is one supported by the youth of Japan, so the campaign hopes to pass down these messages of sustainability to young people.

  • Snoopy Café Opens in Niigata in Collaboration With Hoshi Tabeyo Rice Crackers

    Befco is collaborating its Hoshi Tabeyo star-shaped rice crackers with the lovable Peanuts comic strip to open a themed café at Hotel Nikko Niigata. Named the “Hoshi Tabeyo x Snoopy Café @ Hotel Nikko Niigata,” the café will open for a limited time from April 9 to May 9.“

    Snoopy and fans of Japanese snacks can look forward to an original themed menu, with every food item and drink ordered getting them a free novelty. Of course, the café will sell its own original merchandise too. The café will be decorated in all things Peanuts and Hoshi Tabeyo, and there will even be two photo booths for snapping a commemorative photo of your fun day.

     

     

    The Menu

     

    1. Snoopy Beef Stew: With a juicy meat and bouillon base, this stew is made with beef, onion, and mushrooms, all topped off with a Snoopy made from rice.

     

    2. Snoopy Hamburger Curry: Snoopy’s rice ears are topped with a hamburger, and the curry sauce is made with fruit and vegetables. There’s even a little Woodstock made from cheese.

     

    3. Snoopy Hot Sandwich: There are two different sandwiches, one with ham and cheese and the other with potato salad, and both have a different toasted illustration on them. These come in a free lunch box.

     

    4. Hoshi Tabeyo Shaka Shaka Caesar Salad: A salad served in a cup drizzled in a Caesar dressing and with Hoshi Tabeyo rice crackers instead of croutons.

     

    5. Thick Soufflé Pancake: Fat and fluffy pancakes combined with French meringue and served with a Snoopy cookie and sweet-tasting Hoshi Tabeyo. Enjoy together with the accompanying strawberry sauce.

     

    6. Chocolate Parfait: A towering, chocolate-packed parfait layered with chocolate sauce, chocolate cornflakes, chocolate ice cream, and brownie. This is all topped off with a Snoopy cookie and Hoshi Tabeyo rice cracker.

     

    7. Hotel Original Cookies (Set of 4): Crunchy cookies with various prints of familiar faces like Snoopy and Woodstock.

     

    8. Lemonade: A sweet and refreshing lemonade beverage served with honey.
