A Made-in-Japan KitKat called “KitKat Nihonshu Masuizumi” will be released!

 “KitKat Nihonsyu Masuizumi” produced by Hidetoshi Nakata who is actively working to let the world know about great Japanese traditional industries including the nihonshu (Japanese sake) industry, is now on sale.

The “KitKat” series consists of more than 30 kinds of items centering around the “Maccha” flavor and these sweets are gathering much attention from foreign tourists.

 

This time, the brand collaborated with Hidetoshi Nakata and renewed the “nihonsyu” flavor. A new “KitKat Nihonshu” flavor was born using “Masuizumi” from Tomiyama which was chosen out of 100 sake brands based on the votes from nihonsyu lovers.

 

 “KitKat Nihonsyu” which took about a year to develop was created to present the sharp taste of “Masuizumi.” You can enjoy the rich flavor and delicate aftertaste of the soft sweetness of the white chocolate and sake.

    This will be ROLL ICE CREAM FACTORY’s third-ever Christmas menu, which they have made even more fun. There are three festive ice creams to choose from, including two featuring Santa Claus and a reindeer. The ice creams can be served in either their regular cups, or the store’s new “Fuwamoko” snowstorm cups, which looks like snow blowing in the wind. Check out the video below.

    Until now, people would take photos of the ice cream being made, but these new cups make for an even more Instagrammable post.     Nestlé has unveiled a new chocolate recipe that replaces added sugar with cacao pulp. Japan, famous for its exciting range of Kit Kat flavours, adopted the new recipe to create the first cacao fruit chocolate Kit Kat. The Kit Kat was released for sale at the Kit Kat Chocolatory and online on November 29, 2019.

    The Kit Kat Chocolatory sells premium-quality Kit Kats made and from a careful selection of ingredients and by a special production method. The process is overlooked by Yasumasa Takagi, the chocolatier who owns LE PATISSIER TAKAGI.

    The new Cacao Fruit Chocolate Kit Kat uses Nestlé’s new cacao pulp recipe. Cacao pulp is the white substance surrounding the cacao beans inside the fruit. It is dried and pulverised into a fine powder to be used as a replacement for sugar. By infusing cacao pulp into the chocolate, the chocolate flavour can be tasted more fully, making for a new and exciting flavour experience.

    Many people are unaware of the unique sweet and tangy flavour of the cacao fruit’s soft and fleshy insides. Part of the cacao pulp is normally used as sugar to ferment cacao beans in a normal chocolate-making process. However, approximately 70 percent of the pulp is instantly disposed of.

    Zunda Saryo spreads the delicious flavour of zunda across Japan through their variety of zunda-flavoured desserts and drinks.     Looking for Instagram-worthy ice cream in Japan? You definitely need to check out Asakusa Tsuno Koi. Soon after opening in Tokyo’s traditional Asakusa on July 5, 2019, their soft serve unicorn ice cream instantly earned its fame on social media. From November 28 to December 24, the ice cream shop will be releasing a series of Christmas-limited ice creams that are sure to become a hit sensation.

    This shop is famous for being the only ice cream shop in the world to make unicorn-shaped cones out of financier cake dough and filling them with a sweet spiral of soft serve ice cream for the unicorn’s horn. This Christmas, the shop is introducing Christmas-limited toppings, flowers and wreaths to the decorations menu, making customising your ice cream more fun than ever before.

    As 2020 is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac, Rihga Royal Hotel Tokyo’s gourmet shop Melissa is ensuring their customers thoroughly enjoy their New Year’s celebration by releasing a roll cake dressed in Japan’s traditional celebratory colours and decorated with 2020’s zodiac theme of the Rat. The cake is appropriately named Akemashite omedetou gozaimouse, which is a play on words with the Japanese New Year’s greeting “Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu”. The roll cake will be sold from December 28 2019 to January 7, 2020 and only 10 will be sold per day.

     

    Melissa has been selling Chinese zodiac-themed confections since 2010, basing designs on the animal of the zodiac celebrated in that year. The pâtissiers never fail to produce cute designs full of fun and personality. 2020 will see the release of a strawberry roll cake decorated with the Year of the Rat theme.   • Tokyo Station’s Top 10 Edible Winter Souvenirs as Chosen by Station Staff

    There is just a month and a half left of 2019, with Christmas, the winter holidays and New Year celebrations right around the corner.

     

    Tokyo Station City has compiled a list of must-grab food-related souvenirs and gifts at Tokyo Station. If you’ve ever visited Tokyo Station, you’ll know that you can be spoilt for choice from the amount of goodies you can get your hands on. The list is based on the votes of 305 station staff members working at Tokyo Station who have voted on their Top 10 most recommend souvenirs to pick up this winter.

     

    The staff members went around the shopping area and taste-tested different edible souvenirs across an 8-day period. Their early thoughts as they went down the list were how delicious or unique things were, but they soon began to take it more seriously to consider things like price, how easy an item was to carry and transport, and what certain people might like in particular.

     

    If you’re travelling to or from Tokyo Station during the holiday season, be sure to bookmark this list so you know what to buy for on the flight back home!

     

    1st Place

    Rakumadoka @ Terra Saison (GRANSTA) – 5 Set ¥1,080 (Tax Included) / 8 Set ¥1,728 (Tax Included)

    This cheesecake is like a cream cheese-stuffed souffle-like sandwich. Branded with the words “Gin no Suzu” (a place in Tokyo Station) and “Tokyo,” this seasonal product is exclusive to Tokyo Station. In December last year, they sold over 1,500 in a day.

    Mount Baum Kuchen @ Nenrinya (Meihinkan) – ¥1,080 (Tax Included)

    With its French bread texture, this delightful treat has a fragrant scent, is moist, and is simply delicious. It has a rich buttery taste and is baked slowly to perfection.

    Shinjuku Curry Arare Ebi @ HANAGATAYA (GRANSTA) – 6 Set ¥600 (Tax Included)

    This rich curry snack is made by Shinjuku Nakamuraya, and has a light melt-in-the-mouth texture with spicy curry seasoning and shrimp flavour. The shrimp flavour comes from a mix of shrimp powder and shrimp oil. The mix of curry powder and spices gives it a really authentic curry taste.

    An assortment of rice crackers with three different flavours: great burdock, onion, and pumpkin. They have a set of 18 too which is perfect for handing out to lots of people.

    Coated in caramel, this crunchy pie is made with a cream laced with maple sugar. Exclusive to Tokyo Station, the packaging design for this dessert is made with souvenirs in mind as it’s made so it’s easy to carry and take around with you.

    Kuzumochi @ Funabashiya Koyomi (ecute Tokyo) – 24 Cut (Serves 1-1.5) ¥790 (tax Included) / 36 Cut (Serves 2-3) ¥895 (Tax Included) / 48 Cut (Serves 4-5) ¥1,200 (Tax Included)

    Funabashiya’s kuzumochi is made with wheat starch that is fermented over a 450 day period before being cooked. It claims to be “the only fermented Japanese wagashi confection.” Since it is fermented over such a long period of time, it takes on a unique flavour and elasticity.

  • Japanese Souvenir Diary: Tokyo Strawberry Whipped Langue-de-chat

    You’re going on holiday to another country, but there’s someone special back at home that can’t go with you. What’s the best way to make them feel like they haven’t been left out completely? Souvenirs, of course! Picking out the perfect souvenir for the right person or people, whether friends or family, is a lot of fun as you consider what each person might like and appreciate.

     

    We’ve condensed that thrill of souvenir searching into an article series. We will showcase products that the MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON editorial team have actually tried and recommend as souvenirs.

    Tokyo Ichigo Whipped Langue-de-chat (Includes 6) – ¥650 (Tax Included)

    Today, we will take a look at Tokyo Strawberry Whipped Langue-de-chat. This whipped chocolate cat tongue biscuit is nothing short of delicious. It’s a fact.

    And the cute packaging makes it even better, both the box and individual packs when you open it up.

    And since they are individually packaged, you can share them amongst multiple people.

    Whipped chocolate is sandwiched between the cat tongue biscuits.

     

    Time to try one.

    The biscuit itself has a buttery, exquisite flavour. Though they’re stuffed with whipped chocolate, the chocolate itself is light on the belly. You get those sweet and sour notes from the strawberry too.

     

    The combination of the lightly baked and delicate biscuits with the soft texture and subtle taste of the whipped chocolate is to die for. Your taste buds are tantalised by a flurry of strawberry.

     

    I showed the 6 pack of biscuits, but they also sell a 12 pack (¥1,080) and 18 pack (¥1,620) too, so cater it to how many you need to share out (or enjoy to yourself!) They have a best before date of 30 days too, so don’t have to worry if there’s still some time left before you return home.

  • Kaori’s Easy Recipe: Learn to Make Frozen 2 Milk Tea Muffins

    With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s easy recipe! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

    In this recipe, you’ll learn to make cupcakes based on the upcoming Disney film Frozen 2 which is set to hit theatres worldwide on November 22, 2019. These cupcakes are inspired by the Anna and Elsa poster design for the movie. This recipe has parts that are a little more tricky compared to my usual recipes, but put yourself to the test and you’ll end up with something delicious!

    Milk Tea Muffin Ingredients (Makes 5)

    100g weak flour

    70g unsalted butter

    50g granulated sugar

    1 egg

    1 tsp bottled chestnut syrup

    5-6 chestnuts preserved in syrup

    50ml milk tea

    *To make the milk tea, add one black tea bag into 70ml of milk and draw 50ml from that

     

    Bean Paste Ingredients

    500g white bean paste (shiro-an in Japanese)

    25g unsalted butter (room temperature)

    20ml milk

    A bit of of vanilla extract

    A bit of Wilton White icing colour

    1. First, we’ll make the milk tea muffins. Bring the unsalted butter to room temperature and whisk with a hand mixer. Add the granulated sugar and continue to whisk. Whisk the egg fully, and then add slowly to the mixture. Make sure to add the egg slowly so as to not split the butter.

    2. Sieve the wheat flour and baking powder and add to the mix. Slowly add the milk tea and continue to whisk to bring the mixture together.

    3. Add a teaspoon of the chestnut syrup. Chop the chestnuts and add those too, then mix once again.

    4. Add 70-80% of the mixture equally between five cupcake cups. Bake at 170° for approximately 25 minutes.

     

    5. Next, we’ll make the bean paste cream. Do this by mixing together the white bean paste, unsalted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and Wilton White all at once. The Wilton White makes the cream turn a pure white colour.

    6: Allow the muffins to cool, lather over the bean paste to taste, and finally decorate. All done!

    I added colouring to chocolate plastic for the chest part of the dress. Then I cut it up and added it to the cupcakes. I hope you enjoyed the recipe, be sure to try making your own movie-inspired handmade desserts at home too!

    The first Frozen film was a widespread global hit and there’s no denying that Frozen 2 will follow in its footsteps. Get together with your family, friends or lover to watch it for the best experience.
