Hotel Kajoen Tokyo is holding the event titled “Ikebana × Hyakudan Kaidan 2017” at “Hyakudan Kaidan” which is a cultural asset designated by Tokyo from the 26th of September 2017 (Tue.) to the 26th of November (Sun.).
Ikebana is a traditional art form of Japan where one arranges flowers, plants and other materials to make a piece of art work. The most different aspect from European flower arrangement is that ikebana arranges minimum materials in an unsymmetrical manner to maintain a balance.
The event gathers 51 schools from the largest ikebana groups/public interest incorporated foundations in Japan called “Nihon Ikebana Art Committee” and more than 190 thousand visitors visited the four events which were held in the past. Up until now the events were held during the spring but this year’s event will be held in autumn. The visitors of the event can enjoy autumn leaves and flowers.
Different works will be exhibited every week and you can enjoy the works of traditional ikebana, autumn colored maple leaves and flowers. Also, you can visit the event as often as you want by using the free pass.
Moreover, you can see the head of each school creating large works at the entrance lobby every Monday (holiday / 14:00~) which you cannot normally see.
Plus, visitors of the event can take photos of the works from this year. There are many artistic ikebanas created in the room surrounded by Japanese paintings. Let’s take a photogenic photo.
A reasonable plan where you can rent a kimono (Japanese traditional clothes), eat meals at the restaurant and watch the exhibited works will be sold which means you can enjoy the beautiful exhibition while wearing kimono.
The venue, “Hyakudan Kaidan” is a cultural asset which has a well-designed interior and Japanese paintings painted by famous painters in the early Showa Era. The combination of the ikebanas created by famous ikebana schools and paintings painted by famous painters is creating a special atmosphere.
Let’s enjoy the ikebanas in this beautiful venue.
