【MOSHI MOSHI Pick-Up event 】Dramatically illuminated Semnaida cape after the harvest season. Light up event “Aze no Kirameki”
Shiroyone-Senmaida is a scenic spot where all different sizes of rice fields lie geometrically on top of one another facing Japan Sea in the suburbs of Wajima city. It was chosen as a national designated cultural place of scenery and one of the best one hundred terraced rice fields in Japan. It is very popular among tourists and is known as one of the best picturesque backdrops that includes a beautiful sunset with the ocean and rice fields. During the harvest season, from fall to winter, a light up event called “Aze no Kirameki” will be held which will illuminate this place fantastically after the sun sets with more than 21,000 LED lights.
The LED lights will change colors from pink to yellow every thirty minutes. They charge by solar power in the day time, and start lighting up automatically after sunset. Since these lights are made of plastic bottles, they are called “PET BOTARU.” (This word was made up by combining “PET BOTTLE,” which means plastic bottle and “BOTARU” which means lightning bugs in Japanese.) Volunteers put up the lights by hand, and these artificially made lights flutter in the breeze fantastically. They are also going to have special events on Christmas and Valentine’s Day utilizing these lights.
During this event, shuttle buses are running for tourists from downtown Wajima city. It will be a good way to spend the night on a trip in Okunoto area.
