Convenience store Lawson Store 100 is teaming up with Nintendo in promotion of the upcoming video game Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition, an enhanced port of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age for the Nintendo Switch™ that’s set for release on September 27, 2019, by releasing three new breads inspired by the Slime monster from the game at branches around Japan on September 25.

Slime Bread Slime Flavour (Sweet Lime) – ¥108 (Tax Included)

Coming in the classic light blue colour is this “slime flavoured” Slime (which is actually sweet lime flavoured!) It’s filled with refreshing sweet lime jelly.

Behemoth Slime Mango Flavour – ¥108 (Tax Included)

The Behemoth Slime is orange coloured and has a tropical mango aroma. It’s filled with a rich sweet and sour mango cream with fresh pieces of mango in it.

Made to look like metal, this Slime is black sesame flavoured, and is packed with rich black sesame bean paste.

The developer of these products, who is also a huge fan of Dragon Quest, commented the following: “I created these Slime breads because I wanted to people to feel like they were going on an adventure in the world of Dragon Quest. The Slimes are something that can only be found in that world. I took great care to make it as realistic as possible so it would feel like you had your very own Slime. I referenced the game during the planning of this product so that it both looked fun and tasted delicious.”

Elaborating on this final point, they continue: “For example, the [sweet lime] Slime Bread contains lemon [sic] flavoured jelly which is based on the Slime jelly from the game, and when you defeat (or in this case ‘eat’) the slime you are awarded with a treasure! You obtain Slime jelly, and that’s the fun aspect of this product.”

When you go to buy one of these Slime breads and the cashier scans it, the till will play the “Level Up” sound from the game. The stores will also have other references to the game in the form of posters and other hidden features, so make it your quest to find them all.

  • Pikachu Outbreak 2019: Day One Report Of This Year’s Event – MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON

    08.August.2019 | ANIME&GAME / FEATURES / SPOT

The Pikachu army has returned again this year for Pikachu Outbreak 2019 which is running from August 6 to 12 in Minato Mirai, Yokohama. This year, the event also features an evening show which takes advantage of Minato Mirai’s gorgeous nightscape and couples it with exciting lighting technology.

We visited the first day of the event with Chinese talent Etsuna and 7-year-old Yuugo-kun. Here’s our report!

Upon arrival at Minato Mirai Station we were immediately met by lots of Pikachu decorations and event advertisements. And when you go through the ticket gate it plays Pikachu’s cry! If you’re visiting the event this year then be sure to listen out.

There are lots of Pikachu to spot after leaving the ticket gates, so be sure to try finding them all.

We alighted at Minato Mirai Station and headed straight to Rinko Park.

When we hit the park we were greeted by a huge balloon Pikachu!

There’s lots of other Pokémon to catch too, such as Lapras, Psyduck, and many other popular names.

This tiny Pikachu was so cute.

There are food trucks set up by the Pokémon Cafe for the event at Rinko Park so you can get your hands on some food, drinks, and ice pops.

The Pikachu designs on the trucks are super kawaii♡

Pikachu Pineapple Ice Bar – ¥500 (Tax Included)

The ice pops they sell comes with one of four possible Pikachu facial expressions. They’re given randomly.

They’re so cute they seem a waste to eat!

Pikachu Orange Lemonade Soda – ¥500 (Tax Included)

The drink cups have Pikachu designs too, even the lids.

Wherever you look there’s a Pikachu, so you can take pictures literally everywhere.

After we had strolled around Rinko Park, we headed to Nippon Maru Memorial Park. Usually when you visit this park they have huge boats on display but for Pikachu Outbreak, the Pikachu have swarmed the area.

There are lots of walls with various Pokémon illustrations on them around Nippon Maru Memorial Park, such as Ho-Oh’s wings and a Pikachu balloon. They are scattered here and there, so make sure to find all of these too!

Below is where you can watch the Pikachu march wearing illuminating LED costumes.

Even the Ferris wheel at Yokohama Cosmo World was lit up with Pokémon motifs―the Pikachu and Poké Ball ones in particular were beautiful.

After a little while, several Pikachu arrived on a boat to greet everyone. And then…

…out came the LED Pikachu! Their synchronised pattering walk was beyond adorable. They even danced.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. If you head to Queen’s Square Yokohama right next to Nippon Maru Memorial Park then you’ll catch the Eevee march too. Their cute pattering walks too are enough to heal your soul♡

What we’ve shown you is just a snippet of the fun happening this year―there are many other exciting events happening for Pikachu Outbreak 2019.

These last photos were taken at the show in Grand Mall Park at Yokohama Art Museum which makes stunning use of projection mapping. The Pikachu don their LED costumes and perform an incredible light show for the crowd.

You really need to see it for yourself, but to give an example, there is a giant poop volcano in the center of the park which releases poop like lava.

In the interactive area there is a game where you can stand on poop, another where you can make poop by shouting, and other poop-related interactive games.

There is even cute pink and sparkly poop area made for taking Instagrammable photos.

During the press conference, an artist named 326 drew poop portraits of people. There’s plenty of things you can rest assured you’ve never experienced before happening at the Unko Museum, so don’t hold it in―get on over there.

Also on the same floor is an escape game and a VR picture book made by Akihiro Nishino of the stand-up comedy duo King Kong. The activities and events happening on this floor will continue to change so there will always be something new to enjoy whenever you visit.

POST STREET – Enjoy Yokohama Cuisine & Entertainment (Floor 1F)

POST STREET is located on the 1st floor and is directly connected to the East Exit of Yokohama Station. This ‘gourmet street’ is lined with 18 restaurants serving up Yokohama-style food such as the popular Shi Umai BAR, the all-new Niboshi Soba created by the owner of HechiKan, popular donut chain DUMBO Doughnuts and Coffee, the cheese restaurant DAIGOMI which is always booked up, and so on.

The cheeseburgers served at DAIGOMI BURGER, a restaurant and branch of Minamiaoyama- and Ikebukuro-based cheese restaurant DAIGOMI, are different from regular cheeseburgers as cheese is made as the main ingredient.

Making the burger patty 100% beef is a key step to bringing out the full enjoyment of the cheese. The buns are made with Japanese brown rice flour. Etsuna was very satisfied with hers, saying: “The D.G.M Cheeseburger is loaded with cheese. Ir’s delicious with the BBQ sauce, it adds a little sweetness.”

PITCH CLUB – An Amusement Bar, Lounge & Adult Play Area (Floor B1F)

PITCH CLUB is an amusement bar and lounge on the basement floor currently in its pre-opening period. Its grand opening is set for Friday April 5. Created as a ‘sophisticated play area for adults,’ the space is a fusion of art, technology and sophisticated décor styled in the image of a Brooklyn bar.

Games include billiards with pink tables and cues, table tennis, pinball, board games and more. Play a game while enjoying a cocktail made by some of Japan’s leading bartenders or a rich wine brewed in Yokohama.

There is even an in-house darts game called Flash Darts that makes use of projection mapping. There are various ways to play and the targets can be changed too.

As well as the open space there are individual rooms too with stylish artwork covering the walls. These make for a perfect place for a private party or get-together.
