Shu Uemura Releases Red Lipstick For Women in Asia

Tokyo-based makeup brand Shu Uemura released its new shu:RED Collection on January 1.

 

This new RD 163 lipstick is part of the company’s red lipstick line which Shu Uemura himself developed over many years for women in Asia. Along with the RD 163, 54 new colours have been added to the Rouge Unlimited series for a total of 122 colour variations. The standout product from them all is the Rouge Unlimited Lacquer Shine which has an all new texture. Its vibrant colour will make your lips glow and bring your whole face to life.

The company tested the new RD 163 on approximately 3,000 Asian women to develop the perfect colour that balances beautifully with their skin.

The RD 163 comes in a line-up of three textures: the satin type Rouge Unlimited, the velvety Rouge Unlimited Matte and the vibrant and glowing new Rouge Unlimited Lacquer Shine, providing different qualities for different occasions. To celebrate the release of the brand’s iconic RD 163 colour, the lipstick will come in limited edition design packaging.

    AGILE COSMETICS PROJECT is a Japanese skincare brand that launched in November last year. They use completely natural ingredients in their products that are safe and good for your skin. What’s characteristic about them however is that they update their products based on the demands of customers. To make products that their customer base will want to continue using, they focus on how an item feels on the skin, the functionality of its visual aspect, and its palatability amongst other things, all while making speedy improvements.

    The White Oil is a two-layer product and so is to be shaken first before being used. Mixing two separate layers makes it easier for the oil to come together, down to the smallest corners of the outer layer. Ensure you mix it well before use.

     

    When applied to your skin, it has a smooth texture despite being oil and does not become sticky. It feels very comfortable and natural on the skin and never becomes sticky even after applying, all while ensuring it stays moist. Since it’s fairly smooth it means you can use it in summer and before you put on any makeup.

     

    It’s a personal favourite of mine. It makes a skincare routine super simple: after applying skin lotion you use the oil and you’re done. It even comes in a stylish bottle and has a pleasant herb fragrance. I also have sensitive skin, so the fact that it’s free from petroleum-based oils, mineral oil, parabens, UV absorption, and synthetic colouring is a huge plus.

     

    I have used it for a week so I can’t feel any change to my skin tone yet, but it has been incredible for keeping my skin in good condition. There are a lot of people on social media who have used it and have said that their skin tone has become brighter, so I will wait and continue using it!

    The second product to showcase is Clock G.e.n.e which was developed to create and maintain a “daily rhythm” in your skin. This liquid essence will treat one’s tired skin, whether it be from your body clock being off, stress or the like. It adds moisture to the skin throughout the day and also protects it from damage and repairs at night.

     

    It comes in a pipette-type bottle. It is added to your skin after applying moisturiser and makes it super soft. This too is made from 98% natural ingredients and is free from silicon, parabens, mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, and synthetic colouring, meaning people with sensitive skin can use it freely without worry.

     

    If you use skin lotion, Clock G.e.n.e and White Oil in that order, your skin is going to feel completely different the next year. When you start using these items, people are going to complement how smooth your skin looks, so for me the effects are outstanding.

     

    Even now, with the high level of satisfaction people have with these two products, the company are continuing to update them based on feedback buyers can give via the QR code that is coupled with the products.     The JAPAN DUTY FREE Main Building Shop reopened on floor 3F of Narita Airport Terminal 2 on August 9, 2019, where they are now selling products by Kagurazaka-based cosmetics brand Makanai Cosmetics.

     

    The JAPAN DUTY FREE store’s concept is making people feel the beauty of Japan in a modern way.

    To celebrate the shop’s reopening, they are now selling the “HAPPY BAG” which contains seven popular cosmetic items by the brand. Arriving in a cloth bag with an original design, this bag is exclusive to the JAPAN DUTY FREE store. They are also selling the brand’s most popular set of hand cream and lip cream as well as a set of supplements and powder to protect against UV rays. Those who spend over ¥15,000 will also receive special bath powder as a gift.

    Makanai Cosmetics are already set up in Terminal 1 of the airport, and with the opening of the second branch, are set to deliver J-Beauty to even more people arriving from around the world.

    Turquoise Line: Go casual with a single coloured line drawn from your eye

    What we are focusing on here is the single coloured eye makeup line. By choosing a colour like turquoise, which is far away from skin colour, it highlights the eyes more. With this style you are looking to make the eyeline stand out, so we want to be low-key with the eyeshadow. All YOUCA has done here is used grey eyeshadow (pictured top right) which is spread thinly. The eyelashes are not raised and only a little mascara has been applied. Then, using the eyeliner (pictured bottom left), she has drawn a thin line just above where the double eyelid ends. Simply apply the colour as it is without flicking it up for a more effortless eye.

    Terracotta Lipstick: Sophisticated grown-up lips without looking overly pop

    The colour of terracotta, which is a type of earthenware, goes really well with floral designs. It’s also a perfect match with the turquoise eyeliner. Just put a little bit of the terracotta lipstick (pictured bottom right) on your lips and pat it with your finger to blend. Keep in mind that the eyes are the main focus so don’t emphasize your lips too much.

     

    To make your eye makeup stand out even more, try to go makeup-less as much as possible on your skin. YOUCA is using the purple makeup base from Shinseido (pictured bottom) instead of foundation which gives a more no-makeup naked look. For her cheeks, she’s using the Cream Cheek (pictured top right) by Celvoke and applying it thinly to her cheeks to give her a more grown-up look.

  • Pokémon Cosmetic Series: New Slowpoke and Mew Face Masks Released

    The Pokemon cosmetic series has been a huge success in Japan since it launched, with over 600,000 products sold from its collection which has spanned face masks, lip cream, hand cream, lip gloss, point packs, mirrors, and body gel. Their popularity has spread across the web and on social media. They are available to purchase at airports and variety shops in Japan and have proven popular as souvenirs from Japan. Sales also spread to Taiwan in April this year where they are now available to purchase.

    The face masks sold previously were an especially successful hit enjoying a sold out stock. Four new face masks were just released on July 13 which include Slowpoke and Mew designs for the first time.

    As a Pokémon Trainer it’s important to keep your skin moisturized while you’re out in the wild catching ‘em all. The masks were created by cosmetic brrand Lovisia and contain a mix of collagen, hyaluronic acid and shea butter. They have a sweet soap scent and are sure to be a hit on your Instagram feed when you put one on and turn into a cute Pokémon!

    Designs include the classic Pikachu and Eevee and the newly-introduced Slowpoke and Mew for a seriously kawaii lineup.

  • Self-Care Like a Magical Girl With Ojamajo Doremi’s 20th Anniversary Lip Balm

    Bandai’s official online store Premium Bandai has teamed up with Japanese makeup brand CreerBeaute to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the magical girl TV anime series Ojamajo Doremi by releasing a set of two different lip balms. Both have been made to look like the Pollon wands used by the witches in the series to cast magic: one is based on the Peperuto Pollon from the original series and the other on Pikotto Pollon from Ojamajo Doremi # (Sharp).

    The former lip balm is filled with colourful balls representing the Magic Spheres from the series which a witch needs to power her Pollon to use magic. When used on the lips the balls add a natural pink colour to them along with a sweet and sour strawberry scent♡

    The Pikotto Pollon lip balm on the other hand is filled with pink pearls, bringing to life the gorgeous appearance of the original wand. This lip balm adds a natural complexion to your lips with its red colour and ensures they stay hydrated and looking healthy. This one has a floral rose fragrance.

  • Japanese Cosmetic Picture Book: #1―Skin Care & Moisturisation With RMK

    Japan is home to a plethora of top-class, high quality cosmetic items. Japanese cosmetics are slowly becoming in-the-know outside the country, but there is still an abundance of products that are unknown to people.

     

    In this new featured article series, we here in the MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON editorial team will showcase products made in Japan that we use. The brands and prices are unrelated to our picks, they are simply items we want to recommend for you to try.

     

    The first items I’ve chosen are two moisturising products by RMK. RMK’s skin care items cater to a variety of skin types and have been enjoyed by Japanese people of all generations for many years. The company renewed their skincare products on April 5 of this year. I tried out the update items for myself, so let’s take a look.

     

    The concept of the new items is “First Sense.” Not only do they ensure your skin stays moist, they also “tailor” your skin to how you want to look.

    I’m concerned about the outer part of my nostrils, and so I used the First Sense Hydrating Lotion Fresh, a moisturiser that balances water and oil content of your skin.

     

    The lotion is a new combination of pear extract and sage leaf extract. Using cotton, the first use removes old keratin from the nose, and on the second and third uses it completely soaks into the skin. The white gel spreads well across the skin so feels comfortable. Its orange scent gives you a feeling of freshness in those tired and early mornings. I personally really like the smell, so I use it to relax before I sleep too.

    Another item that was renewed was another moisturising item: the Balance Skin Conditioner for sensitive skin. It’s alcohol free and contains hyaluronic acid. The texture makes your skin feel super gentle, moisturising it nice and deep. It contains ingredients that combat dry skin so is good to use when the season changes or to strengthen your skin barrier. It has a citrus and ginger fragrance which is extremely refreshing like the First Sense Hydrating Lotion Fresh. I have used this item when my skin has been drier than usual and when the pollen count has been high in the run up to spring.

     

    RMK items are sold in the cosmetic section of department stores in Japan. They are also sold in Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea too, so be sure to check them out.

  • Naomi Watanabe Produces Second Cosmetic Collection With Shu Uemura

    The second cosmetic collection produced by Naomi Watanabe for the Tokyo-based makeup brand Shu Uemura―called the “naomi for shu uemura collection”―will be released in limited supplies from July 20.

    The collection includes two colours each of Shu Uemura’s hugely popular satin lipsticks Rouge Unlimited and their velvety Rouge Unlimited Matte. It also includes two colours from their Glow On F which gently blends with the skin and change one’s look in an instant. The blush is served in a limited edition custom case.

     

    From a sublime colour that draws out the charm of a person tenfold to another trend colour that elevates the face to its peak, Watanabe produced each of these original colours from nothing and Shu Uemura manufactured them. This is also the first blush Watanabe has ever produced.

     

    The collection comes as the long-awaited sequel to Uemura’s first collaboration with Shu Uemura when she was appointed an ambassador of the brand. The line-up exhibits Watanabe’s drive to keep on evolving and is an expression of herself today.

    What Watanabe was focused on with this collection was ensuring each item easy to use and incorporate into looks while also making a range of exquisite colours you cannot get anywhere else. For example, the deep killer red colour “no.1” is laced with gold glitter to give a shimmering finish to those lips.

     

    “unfollower” balances red and yellow with the saturation altered to create a unique orange that makes your lips the standout feature of your makeup. This colour is perfect when combined with summery eye makeup.

    The blush serves to bring out your peak adult beauty in a super easy fashion. It’s for those people who are able to create gorgeous eye makeup but aren’t quite skilled at their cheeks yet. “amber sophistication” doesn’t highlight your cheeks too much but gives just enough to leave you looking sophisticated and urban. “bellini innocence” gives your cheeks a pure look with its coral colour that blends into your skin with its slightly more sweeter-looking appearance.

  • Pokémon Cosmetic Series: Pokémon Mirrors & Point Pack Released

    We have seen five items release in the Pokémon cosmetic series up to now: the face mask, lip cream, hand cream, lip gloss and body gel.

     

    In total over 470,000 items have shipped in the series. They have gained much attention online not only for their cute designs but for the considered ingredients they contain. The series has been also been sold in Japanese airports and enjoyed as a souvenir from Japan. It was even released in Taiwan this month.

    Two new Pokémon have been added to the series for the newest product―Slowpoke and Mew―for a total of six Pokémon. The new items in the line-up are mirrors and the point pack.

    Cute pastel colours and designs decorated the six mirrors which include Eevee, Slowpoke, Mew, Jigglypuff, Pikachu and Snorlax. Their petite 76mm size makes them compact and convenient to carry around. But don’t be put off by their small appearance as they are plenty big enough to fix your makeup on the go. The mirrors also come with a clear case meaning they won’t get dirty.

    The cute designs also make them a perfect idea as a gift♡

    Also released is the point pack which is sure to be a hit on social media.

  • Comedians Naomi Watanabe and James Corden take part in SK-II new beauty video series!

    Global skincare brand SK-Ⅱ will release the first episode of the new beauty entertainment series called “Suppin Suhada Talk” on 25th March. The official trailer was released on 20th March.

    One of the participants in the talk series includes Naomi Watanabe, a famous Japanese comedian who is known is the “Japanese Beyoncé” and has also performed overseas. Another other is James Corden; the host from the American TV show “The Late Late Show”, who is also famous for his carpool karaoke hosting. This will be  James’ and Naomi’s first ever time to take part in the video series! The two comedians will suddenly appear in the bathrooms of famous actresses Kasumi Arimura and Chloë Grace Moretz. Throughout the series, the viewers and comedians will then uncover beauty secrets from the actresses that everyone is dying to know.

     

    From the other side of the closed door, one by one, the four participants burst into a charming or silly pose that they have never shown anyone before. With all their might, Arimura Takahashi and Chloe Moretz challenge themselves to everything from beatboxing to dancing to ASMR. They will also reveal their beauty secrets and try out the SK-II PiteraTM * Essence (facial treatment) which is “just like liquid foundation”.

     

    The first episode of the “Suppin Suhada Talk” series will be released worldwide on 25th March at the same time. After that, a new episode will be released every two weeks to form a sequel. Gradually, the secrets of beauty will be unravelled!

    For this series, I was given the role of explaining the amazing qualities of Pitera to Naomi Watanabe ー it’s a pretty heavy role and before the shoot I was nervous thinking about it but after the shoot I felt completely different ー I was relaxed and really enjoyed myself! I was not sure how Watanabe would react during the shoot so I just acted natural and interacted with her in a fun way! I’ll be very happy if everyone watching also feels just as enthusiastic about Pitera™!

    This is a brand I have always adored, so when I first heard the news about being part of the series I was so happy. As a comedian, I had fun interacting with Arimura and incorporating comedy into the introduction of the product ー I think it is a very original idea and made the shoot really fun! Whilst being given the freedom to steer the show, I could really feel Arimura’s enthusiasm to spread the news about Pitera™. It was fun and I learned a lot about SK- II. I say this in the video too but… I think this is something that a god would even purchases!

    The video shoot was really fun and the set was overflowing with laughter. I’m pretty sure viewers at home will also be able to sense the fun. There are times when you don’t want to be thinking too seriously about skincare but would rather just have fun!

  • Miffy Design Makeup Brushes Released by Kumano Brush

    Kumano is a hub for brushes in Japan responsible for producing 80% of brushes in the country for painting, writing and cosmetics. Kumano Fude (also known as Kumano Brush), the company that produces these brushes, has joined paws with Dick Bruna’s internationally loved bunny character Miffy to release a new range of makeup brushes. Four types were released on February 14 including face brushes and cheek brushes.

     

    Kumano Fude’s previously-released Rilakkuma and Rilakkuma Halloween brushes were incredibly popular, and the Miffy and Melanie brushes are sure to receive the same love. There are two each of face and cheek brushes each in the colour of the respective characters. All the brushes produced by Kumano Fude are handmade by experts in Kumano Prefecture.

    The face brush handles are made with wood from cherry blossom trees with blue and red designs and decorative flowers.

    The cheek brushes too come in their own respective colours. The yellow dye of the brush hairs gives the ends a perfectly round shape. The handles are made of hard maple and feature illustrations of Miffy hugging his teddy bear and Boris hugging a rabbit plush toy.

     

    Not only are these brushes cute, they are authentic tools and a must-have for any cosmetic connoisseur. Perfect as a gift to a friend (or yourself!)
