Kenshi Yonezu’s ‘orion’ Music Video Breaks 100 Million YouTube Views

Kenshi Yonezu’s music video for orion broke the 100 million view mark on YouTube at 1:24am on April 3, 2019.

This makes it Yonezu’s 7th video to reach the 100 million mark following the success of Lemon―which has over 300 million views―Peace SignLoserAine KuraineUchiage Hanabi, and Haiiro to Ao (+Masaki Suda).


orion was released on February 15, 2019 as is the title track of Yonezu’s 6th single. The song was written as the second ending theme for the TV anime adaptation of Chica Umino’s manga series March Comes in Like a Lion.

The song was included on his latest hit album BOOTLEG. Released in 2017, the record has gone on to sell over 500,000 copies.


The music video was directed by Kento Yamada. It features Yonezu standing in a room of dangling light bulbs which represent the constellations. In t he room with him is a laundry machine inside which the video’s climactic scene takes place with Yonezu standing on a vast beach with the starry sky overhead.


Kenshi Yonezu’s official YouTube channel has over 3.47 million subscribers. He also boasts the most videos to have reached 100 million views in Japan which, together with his other music videos, have a combined total of 1.8 billion.


The artist recently concluded his 2019 arena tour which began on January 19. The tour took him to 8 locations across Japan to perform 16 concerts to over 170,000 fans. The tour also took him overseas for the first time: he played at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on March 19 and the NTU Sports Center in Taiwan on March 30. Tickets for both immensely-successful shows sold out.
