TV Anime Fruits Basket Second Opening Theme ‘Chime’ to be Performed by Ai Otsuka

05.July.2019 | ANIME&GAME / MUSIC

Japanese singer-songwriter Ai Otsuka is set to head on her Asia tour later this month with four dates in China and one in Taiwan. In the run up to the tour, it has been revealed that she will release a new song.

Titled Chime, her 26th single will release on September 4 and be used as the new opening theme for the TV anime series Fruits Basket from July 5.

Fruits Basket was serialised in Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1998 to 2006. The entire 23-volume series has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The original 26-episode anime adaptation by Studio Deen ran in 2001 from July to December. A new series with new cast and staff began airing in April this year.

Chime is the first upbeat song from Otsuka in a while. Its positive message serves to ring the first chime into starting something new; just like the characters in Fruits Basket who want to change but find it difficult to take that first step. The song will be available early on major digital download and streaming platforms on July 5.

Otsuka will perform the song for the first time at JAPAN EXPO 2019 in Paris, France on July 6.

  • Opening Theme for New Fruits Basket Anime to be Performed by Beverly

    20.March.2019 | ANIME&GAME / MUSIC

Filipino-born Japanese pop singer―who is lauded for her powerful voice―has been put in charge to perform the opening theme song for the upcoming new anime adaptation for Natsuki Takaya’s manga series Fruits Basket.

The song is titled Again and was announced at an event held at Makuhari International Training Center on March 16, 2019 to commemorate the new Fruits Basket anime series.

Fruits Basket was serialised in Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1998 to 2006. The entire 23-volume series has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The original 26-episode anime adaptation by Studio Deen ran in 2001 from July to December. The new series will have a new cast and staff.

The series has enjoyed stark popularity with manga fans, especially amongst girls, who have praised its unique story which, despite being a cute shoujo manga is unexpectedly deep. The proof of its success is evident in the revival in the new adaptation which comes over 10 years after the manga ended serialisation.

Again will be released across digital music platforms on April 5. It is described as a ballad that sings thanks to life spent with a treasured-somebody that has been lost.

Beverly is currently on a three-date acoustic tour entitled “My Room.” The first show was held in Tokyo on March 17. The final two concerts will take place at Nagoya School of Music and Dance School in Aichi March 23 and Osaka School of Music on March 24.

  • Ending Theme for New Fruits Basket Anime to be Performed by Vickeblanka

    18.March.2019 | ANIME&GAME / MUSIC

It has been announced that Vickeblanka will perform the ending theme Lucky Ending for the upcoming new anime adaptation for the manga series Fruits Basket written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya.

Vickeblanka is a Japanese pop singer and songwriter who is set to perform at many big music festivals in Japan this year, including SUMMER SONIC 2019 in both Tokyo and Osaka.

Fruits Basket was serialised in Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1998 to 2006. It has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The original anime adaptation by Studio Deen ran in 2001 from July to December. The new series will have a new cast and staff.

Talking about his collaboration with the series, Vickeblanka comments: “I enjoyed reading shojo manga as a child because of my younger sister. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Fruits Basket the bible for all girls, so it is truly an honour for me to be able to perform the ending theme. Lucky Ending is a very precious song to me. It’s a fateful harmony of my own personal feelings and the messages I took from reading the series. Please be sure to give it a listen. I too am looking forward to the [new] anime airing.”

Fruits Basket will begin airing on April 6, 2019.
