Now it’s December, we can unleash our festive spirits without anyone telling us “it’s too early”. The streets are glistening with Christmas decor and Christmas dinners, drinks and desserts are around every corner. Every year, Starbucks never fails to hype us up with their Christmas drinks and so without a moment to waste, I headed over to check them out. 

 

For many, the excitement of Christmas starts to unfold at one moment: opening the stocking. Starbucks has hit home once again with the Santa Boots Chocolate Frappuccino®, which not only takes on the appearance of a stocking stuffed with treats, but tastes as jolly as one too. The Frappuccino® was released on December 4, 2019 and is enough to leave you with a very merry belly. 

Once you place your order, you will be handed a sealed straw transformed with Christmas magic to become an edible cookie straw. This drink is the first of its kind for Starbucks and is on a whole new level of excitement. Just holding the straw in your hand waiting for your drink will have your heart racing in anticipation.

The small, bright red baubles of chocolate will immediately catch your attention. The Christmassy cup is literally a stocking packed with a range of delicious flavours and textures.

Now it’s time to insert the straw. You will be surprised at just how strong and sturdy it is. Alternating between a few refreshing gulps and an odd chomp on the crispy straw creates a new kind of flavour experience. Rest assured that you are also provided with a regular straw so no need to worry about devouring the straw before finishing the drink.

The frappuccino® base contains a rich chocolate sauce and is sprinkled with crispy potato chips. There are also some potato chips on top of the drink to moderate sweetness and add texture. 

 

Not only will this fill your stomach, but just seeing the jolly drink will leave you fully topped up with the festive spirit. Sales will end once stock is depleted so make sure to try it asap if you are interested.

    Starbucks Japan has revealed its drink in its line of holiday season beverages for 2019. The Santa Boots Chocolate Frappuccino® will be released at Starbucks branches across Japan on December 4, but will receive an early release at four branches in Shibuya on December 3.

     

    The best moment during Christmastime is when you open a present. This drink is inspired by the candy and gift-stuffed stockings from childhood.

    The drink contains everybody’s favourite indulging ingredients: chocolate, cookies, and potato chips. The base of the drink is filled with dipping chocolate sauce and crunchy chocolate chips. The potato chips on top add a delicious salty flavour to the sweetness.

     

    The drink is closed off with a squirt of snow-white whipped cream covered in red chocolate balls and an edible cookie straw. Suck up all of those delicious flavours through the straw and then enjoy munching on it afterwards, ensuring nothing goes to waste. A perfect beverage to enjoy this holiday season!

    Follow on from Merry Strawberry Cake Frappuccino®, Starbucks Coffee Japan has announced its second release in its series of holiday season beverages: the Nutty White Chocolate Frappuccino® and the Nutty White Mocha will hit most branches across Japan from November 22.

     

    These two delicious drinks are the perfect holiday season treats, both capturing the moment when Christmas lights and illuminations twinkle. The coffee chain is also releasing its second batch of merchandise too.

    The Nutty White Chocolate Frappuccino® is a combination of milky white chocolate and nutty hazelnuts with a sprinkling of roasted walnuts and crunchy shortbread for tantalising texture. It’s finished with a squirt of whipped cream which has been topped with chocolates of three different colours and silver dragees to create that Christmas light sparkle. You’re sure to feel the Christmas spirit with this order.

     

    If it’s a hot drink you desire for warming up during the chilly weather, then you won’t be able to resist the Nutty White Mocha, a rich cup of coffee made with white chocolate and hazelnut syrup and a strong shot of espresso. The instant you take a sip from your cup, your taste buds will be treated to the nuttiness of the hazelnuts, and the subsequent milkiness of the white chocolate and full-bodied flavour of the espresso. The whipped cream represents a Christmas tree while the sauce is the ribbons and the dragees are the lights. A true capturing of Christmastime.

    “Brilliant Season” is the theme of Starbucks’ second batch of Christmas goods this holiday season.   • Starbucks Japan Releases Merry Strawberry Cake Frappuccino

    The holiday season has finally hit Starbucks in Japan, and for the first drink in their series of Christmas beverages, they are serving the new Merry Strawberry Cake Frappuccino which is made to look and taste like a strawberry cake. Customers can even customise their drinks with as much free strawberry sauce as they like.

    Merry Strawberry Cake Frappuccino – Tall ¥590 w/ Free Strawberry Sauce (*Sauce not available with other drinks)

    The drink is built on sponge cake flavoured base, on top of which sits ascending layers of bright-red strawberry sauce, whipped cream, and a sprinkling of freeze-dried strawberries, effectively creating a dessert that you can drink. One sip of this pink delight fills your mouth with the sweet and refreshing taste of fresh fruity strawberries.

     

    We recommend customising yours with non-fat milk or soy milk. If you want to hold back on some of the sweetness, go for the non-fat milk option, and if you want something smoother, get the soy milk. Drizzle over additional strawberry sauce to your liking, and you’ve got yourself a festive treat for the season!

The cafe offers cashless payments, which is notable as Japan is still very much a cash-based country, as well as the Starbucks mobile order and pay service where you pick what you want on your phone and then go and pick it up.

     

    2nd Floor: A place where you can focus

    Reserve a booth for video calls and more


    There are four individual half-booths which can be reserved, each of which have a screen for video calls and online meetings. These can be used for 40 minutes and can be booked in advance. The booking system was co-developed by Starbucks and Vacan.

     

    Tables for in-person group meetings

    The window tables offer a place for meetings, discussions, and business negotiations for 2-12 people. It’s a relaxing area where workers and clients can chat freely.

    For those who want to work along, Starbucks has created a spacious area with individual booths where you don’t have to meet eyes or be bothered by other people.

  • Starbucks to Open New Branch Along Nakamise Street in Nagano Near Zenkoji Temple

    Starbucks Coffee Japan is set to open a new branch in Japan on March 26, 2020. It will open along Nakamise-dori, a street that leads to Nagano’s famous Zenkoji Temple.

    It will open as the Kōshin’etsu region’s first Starbucks Regional Landmark Storeーa Starbucks branch unique to Japan that’s built as a symbol of that area which promotes that region’s culture to customers. They enable coffee-loving visitors to discover or rediscover the wonder of a region’s history, culture, craftsmanship, and industry, while building a connection with the region through those discoveries. The branches incorporate various local design elements into them.

     

    The new branch, called Starbucks Coffee Shinshu Zenkoji Nakamise-dori, neighbours the Niou Gate of Zenkoji Temple. It’s a place where you can sit down with a delicious cup of coffee and relax while feeling the history of the place. The coffee shop’s design and decor also takes inspiration from local history and culture, their concept behind “Busy and Quiet, Light and Dark.” It’s situated a little away from the hustle and bustle of Nakamise-dori, and houses two spacious floors.

     

    The sliding doors and skylight let in a soft light which also casts shadows in places, mimicking the beauty of shade found in a Japanese-style house. The ceiling and walls at the entrance are made from Japanese red pine, while the bar uses five different types of wood from Nagano Prefecture like hornbeam and katsura. The stone lanterns which were in the original building have been put at the entrance, and the great beams on the second floor have been left as they are. All of this preserves the feeling of the local region while small Starbucks touches are added here and there, resulting in a unique Starbucks experience.

    Starbucks Coffee Japan is launching a new drinks promotion in Japan on March 13 entitled “New Latte Love Coffee.” The first two drinks in the series will celebrate the 1st anniversary of the coffee wonderland Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo. The drinks are the Butterscotch Latte and Butterscotch Coffee Jelly Frappuccino®.

    The new beverages incorporate a butterscotch sauce which offers a rich and smooth buttery taste and sweet caramel. Each drink is carefully crafted with a shot of freshly-made espresso, the butterscotch sauce, and steamed milk.

     

    The Frappuccino® version is filled with a Starbucks-original coffee jelly made using the coffee chain’s “Espresso Roast” which goes perfectly with the milk of the cold drink. It’s almost like a dessert in a cup, especially with the addition of the butterscotch sauce.

     

    Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo is also widening its range of milks in line with the new beverages. Soy milk is already a standard there, but now customers can also enjoy oat milk for a limited time, as well as almond milkーthe latter of which will be put onto the regular menu.

    Starbucks’ new 2020 drinks are made with carefully roasted tea leaves that are packed with the wonderful flavours of Japan and full of rich aroma. The tea is combined with white mocha syrup and whipped cream for a deliciously creamy tea. The tea leaf mix used is Starbucks Japan’s original blend which consists of five different types of tea.   • Kiyomizu Cheese Kobo: Kyoto’s Dessert House Releases Matcha Tiramisu and New Cheese Products

    Kiyomizu Cheese Kobo opened in Kiyomizu Gojozaka, Kyoto in July this year as the first place in Kyoto to specialise in “bottled cheesecakes.” This month, they are releasing four new products to continue the cheese craze right to the end of 2019.

    The first is a revamp of their number one most popular soft serve cheese ice cream: the “Chocolate Mont Blanc Cheese Soft.” The soft serve ice cream is a mix of refreshingly sweet milk and rich cheese topped with a full-bodied mont blanc-style chocolate—a welcome addition during the winter months when you want to stay in and indulge in some chocolate. The ice cream is finished with crushed chocolate pieces and a crowning raspberry to create a chocolate cake in a cone. You’re sure to become a frequent customer after a bite of this.

    And for the Christmas season only, between December 18th-25th the shop is also selling another special soft serve that’s made to look like a Christmas tree. The cheese soft serve is covered with a sprinkling of Uji matcha powder and adorned with chocolate pearls and stars.

    Kiyomizu Cheese Kobo is also releasing hot versions of its “Kiyomizu Cheese Drink” and “Matcha Cheese Tea,” the iced versions of which were greatly enjoyed in summer. The Matcha Cheese Tea can also now be ordered with tapioca topping, creating a delicious combination between the expertly crafted rich matcha cheese tea and the chewy and sugary tapioca pearls.

    Also released this month is the “Homemade Matcha Tiramisu” when is served in a traditional masu box and served only on the second floor eat-in section. This irresistible delight is made with flavourful mascarpone cheese and bitter Uji matcha from Kyoto to create a dessert that’s perfect during a trip or day out in Kyoto. Because of the hard labour that goes into creating this dessert, only 5-10 are served per day, so be sure to arrive early to not miss the opportunity.

  • Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo Releases Merchandise in Collaboration With BEAMS

    Starbucks Coffee Japan has collaborated with BEAMS Creative Lab (ビームス創造研究), which is led by Kazuyoshi Minamimagoe, Senior Creative Director at BEAMS, to release a collection of merchandise to celebrate the coming New Year. The items arrived at Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo on December 17.

    Since opening on February 28, 2019, Roastery Tokyo has collaborated with BEAMS Creative Lab on three separate occasions to release collections of merchandise themed on “Play,” “Travel,” and “Go out!” respectively. They have proven popular with both Japanese and foreign customers. For this fourth collaboration, the theme is “Lucky Charms.”

    The line-up of items range from classic Japanese New Year’s celebratory items like pochibukuro mini envelopes and a towel with a New Year’s greeting design on it to Roastery Tokyo-exclusive Kewpie dolls coloured copper and silver like the roasters in the coffee shop.

    Look over the past year and beckon the New Year with a cup of coffee at Starbucks and some festive goodies.
