As part of MikuWorldCollab, a project launched to have the internationally-beloved virtual singer collaborated with famous overseas IP’s, popular Korean-American illustrator Esther Kim has teamed up with Crypton Future Media to release a super cute piece of artwork of Miku.

Miku is joined by Esther Bunny, an adorable bunny created by Esther Kim. Kim was born in Los Angeles and spent her teenage years in Tokyo. Her multicultural background has influenced her art which has led to collaborations with popular fashion and cosmetic brands in South Korea, Japan, and elsewhere.

 

Kim has cute and stylish touches to Miku and Esther Bunny. The illustration will be released on merchandise sometime this year. Another illustration by a designer at Crypton will also be released in the near future.

  • ESTINATE HOTEL Celebrates Okinawa Branch’s 6th Anniversary With Ryu Ambe Collaboration

    The lifestyle hotel chain ESTINATE HOTEL’s Okinawa Naha branch will turn 6-years-old on August 7, and to celebrate, it will hold a special event in collaboration with the character designer Ryu Ambe from August 6-15. This will be Ambe’s first-ever exhibition where his work will be sold in-person.

    ESTINATE HOTEL has welcomed people from all regions of Japan over the years. It has held many events including one two years ago with the theme “Meet Local” and another last year themed on “Feel Global.” This year, the catchphrase is “Hello New World” which hopes to encourage people to discover new things by meeting the locals of Okinawa through the medium of art.


    Ryu Ambe has a unique designer reminiscent of American comics. For this event, he has created the “Shima Map” which will be used on a variety of merchandise such as 30 limited-edition silk screen posters. There are also pottery pieces inspired by the sea life found in Okinawa’s oceans, amongst other art works.

    Japanese digital art collective teamLab has announced their plans to set up a public art exhibition at Chiba Art Festival 2021 which will take place at Chiba Port Park from July 31 to September 5.

    team lab will be showcasing their interactive ovoid digital art exhibit Autonomous Resonating Life and Resonating Trees. The art group describes the work: ” The resisting and resonating ovoids placed amongst the trees shine. The light of the ovoids and the light of the trees are autonomous: they shine brightly and then fade slowly, as though they are breathing. When an ovoid is pushed, the colour of the light it emits changes and the tone unique to that color echos. The light that originated from that ovoid resonates out to other ovoids and trees nearby. The tone resonates out continuously in the same way as the light, spreading throughout the ovoids and trees.”

     


    Chiba Art Festival is one of several cultural programs hosted by Chiba Prefecture. The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics are not solely for enjoying sports; they’re also an opportunity to enjoy the culture of Japan, and so the country is running many different cultural events across and around the capital. The theme of the festival is to showcase artwork that the city wishes to pass on to the next generation. Many pieces are being displayed around Chiba, including at the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art, such as illustrations, photos, and more.

  • BanG Dream! Girls Band Party x Fuji-Q Highland Summer Event Announced

    Fuji-Q Highland is set to host a summer event in collaboration with the mobile rhythm game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party from August 7 to September 12.

     

    This marks the amusement park’s 4th collaboration with the game which will see newly-illustrated artwork of the characters decorating the attractions, a special talk show hosted by the voice actresses, limited-time announcements on the attractions recorded by the voice actresses, a themed food menu, original merch, and more.

     

    A digital stamp rally will also take place which will have guests locating life-sized panels of seven characters which they need to scan with their smartphone. This will give them a special voiced story. Those who obtain all the digital stamps by scanning all the panels will receive a free novelty as well as an original voiced guide for boarding the amusement park train. The train too will be decorated in BanG Dream! artwork.

  • Win a Signed GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE Poster With JOYSOUND’s Campaign

    GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE released their sixth studio album Up & Down on July 14, 2021. To promote the new record, which comes a year and eight months since their last album, the boy band are collaborating with the Japanese karaoke chain JOYSOUND.

     

    The collaboration campaign is taking place at select JOYSOUND branches, including with the company’s latest JOYSOUND MAX GO machines. Fans can participate both at the karaoke booths as well as at home by using the official JOYSOUND app which is available on both iOS and Android.

     

    Those taking part in-person at the karaoke booths will use the free Kyoku Navi JOYSOUND app, which turns their smartphone into a karaoke remote control, to select any of the 13 tracks from the band’s new album Up & Down, which includes five new songs such as HELLO! HALO! (feat.DANCEARTH). You can enter the campaign multiple times by singing each song once per day for a total of 13 submissions eveyrday.

     

    If you’re singing from home, you use the JOYSOUND app and from there you share your performance on Twitter. You must tweet your post with the hashtag #GENERATIONS_JOYSOUND and be following the official JOYSOUND account @JOYSOUND_PR.

     

    Three random people will be select from the submissions to receive a poster signed by all the GENERATIONS members. The band is also set to appear in the ‘SPECIAL FEATURE’ of JOYSOUND’s monthly artist pickup on August 2.     Shows at the Shiki Theatre Company have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. The collaboration comes to reignite the fire and excitement towards the theatre in these restrictive times. This August, the theatre is release a new and original musical which will see actors wearing clothing made using banshu-ori weave. This collection uses the same weaving technique.

     

    Banshuori is a yarn-dyed textile made using a special production method which sees yarn dyed in advance and patterns woven by the dyed yarn. The items in the collection come in two colours: Matinee and Soiree, named after afternoon and evening theatre performances respectively. The Matinee line-up is beige and yellow while the Soiree picks are a mix of navy and black.

     

    The one-size-fits-all skirts feature a comfy mermaid style with a fashionable silhouette perfect for going to the theatre with. They are made in such a way that they do not wrinkle when sitting down for long periods of time. The neckties too are made using banshu-ori weave for a smooth, sleek look.

Titled Bunkamura Bon Bon – Bunkamura France Monthly 2021 –, the event features artwork and commentary by Japanese graphic designer Atsuhi Ito as well as a Paris-themed menu.

    The title of the artwork decorating the inside of Bunkamura is PLAYTIME and is a collaboration with MAPP_, an art project group known for their diverse artwork including the use of project mapping. The designs were created by graphic designer Atsuhi Ito who has captured the essence of Paris. The facility’s cafe is also serving up a special French inspired menu with bistro classics to seasonal fish, summer vegetables, and more.
