Pikachu Outbreak Event 2019 | Pokémon GO Fest in Yokohama

The Pikachu Outbreak Festival has been held in Yokohama for five years in a row. The event sees groups of Pikachu come together to march the streets.

 

The event is set to return for its sixth run in summer, with the main programmes set to be held at nighttime. Lighting technology will be used with the Pikachu army against the backdrop of Minato Mirai’s gorgeous nightscape. More than 2,000 Pikachu are being mobilised, the biggest number in the event’s history.

In front of Yokohama Art Museum, the Pikachu will don LED lights on t heir costumes and hold up LED flags as they perform for the public.

The Pikachu will also dance around giant water fountains in front of Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse’s park with a panoramic view of Yokohama Bay Bridge in the background.

The Eevee army will also join the fray again this year. Also occurring alongside the Outbreak is Pokémon GO Fest in Yokoham which can be attended by signing up in advance

  • Haikyu!! Season 4 To The Top Fair to be Held at Animate Stores Across Japan

    Animateーa chain of anime and manga related merchandise storesーhas announced that it will hold a fair to promote season four of the ongoing TV anime series Haikyu!! from February 15.

     

    Haikyu!! is a popular manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate and serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump. The series has spawned an anime series and stage adaptation. The fourth season of the anime series began airing on January 10 this year.

    The event will be held at Animate stores from February 15 to March 8 where fans of the series can get their hands on exclusive merchandise. Those who purchase or pre-order items will receive one of 8 possible postcards as pictured above featuring the cast of characters.

    A special pop-up shop at the Sendai and Yokohama Vivre branches of Animate will also be open from February 15 to March 1, which will include not only merchandise, but a chance for fans to deepen their love of the series even more.     To celebrate the anime film Seven Days War which premiered on December 13, a themed café opened at EJ Anime Theater in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The café opened in collaboration with popular creator Pantovisco who has over 680,000 followers across his social media.

     The cute menu line-up features Seven Days War-inspired food and desserts with Perochi and his friends joining in with the fun. There’s also a drinks menu with a line-up of colourful beverages and lattes which you can get various latte art drawings on.

The cafe is opening to promote the release of the Chibi-Maruko-chan and Coji-Coji dream collaboration picture book.   • Pokémon Shirts Expands Shipping to Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand

    Original Inc. has announced that it is expanding its shipping efforts for its Pokémon Shirts collection, which is made officially in collaboration with The Pokémon Company. The shirts are now available in The UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, totalling the number of countries to 17.

     

    Pokémon Shirts was launched back in February by American custom shirt brand Original Stitch, which offers over one billion design customisations, and the Pokémon franchise. In October, the shirt line received an overhaul. The line-up offers two options: either a shirt featuring one of the original 151 Pokémon, or a plain shirt which you can fully customise including the patterns, silhouette, material, button variation, size and more. Orders are made online and delivered to your home.

  • Pokémon Sword and Shield Themed Food to be Served at the Pokémon Cafes in Tokyo and Osaka

    The Tokyo (Nihonbashi) and Osaka (Shinsaibashi) branches of the Pokémon Cafe are releasing their second batch of menu items in collaboration with Pokémon Sword and Shield which will be served between January 18 and March 19 next year.

     

    Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are the latest games in the Pokémon video game franchise and were released for the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019. The two new menu items fans can hope to enjoy based on Weezing and Morpeko. Also, due to popular demand, the serving period for the first collaborative menu which featured Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble has been extended to March 19, 2020.

    Try pouring the accompanying blueberry sauce over Weezing’s cotton candy gas clouds and you might just see an actual chemical change yourself!

  • New Pokémon Anime Series ‘Pocket Monsters’ Opening Theme ‘1・2・3’ Released Digitally

    After the Rain, a collaborative duo formed by Mafumafu and Soraru, released their new song One, Two, Three (written as 1・2・3 in Japan) digitally on December 15, 2019.

    The song is being used as the first opening theme song to the new Pokémon anime series Pocket Monsters. It was written by Mafumafu who worked on the lyrics, composed song, and arranged the music.

     

    The two artists have a big online presence, with Mafumafu having over 850 million views on YouTube and 1.6 million followers on Twitter, and Soraru having over 180 million views and 1.4 million followers. They were chosen to perform the opening theme to create that sense of partnership, like Ash and Gou, Ash and Pikachu, or Gou and Scorbunny.

    The song was released on Mafumafu’s official YouTube channel and has amassed over 5.5 million views in less than a month.

    The song is garnering huge attention from both After the Rain fans and Pokémon fans alike. Details on the CD release have yet to be announced, but it is now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music and is available to download on iTunes. Links below.

  • Artist FUKI Collaborates with LINE MUSIC to Make Romantic Bubble Tea at Tai Parfait Cafe

    LINE MUSIC-Bu is LINE MUSIC’s research team that studies popular music trends among teen girls. LINE MUSIC-Bu teamed up with love song-writer FUKI, who is releasing one love per month for 12 months, in order to produce a new bubble tea drink and tapioca dessert especially for couples. The drink and dessert is being sold at Tai Parfait Cafe, Yokohama World Porters. FUKI will also perform at a free live gig at Yokohama World Porters on December 25, which is the last day of collaboration drink and tapioca dessert sales. 

    The collaboration pair-tapi contains two different drinks in a twin split cup. One side of the cup is filled with cafe au lait and the other with a strawberry-flavoured drink. Both sides are stuffed with yummy tapioca pearls and are topped with a mountain of cream. This cute drink sees the perfect opportunity to get closer to your partner. 

     

    The second collaboration treat is the Tai Parfait Tapi which is stuffed with strawberries and tapioca pearls. The adorable tai fish is made from sweet dough – and it has cute eyelashes too. The fish’s enormously wide mouth can be seen chomping down on the delicious dessert. 

    Enjoy a romantic bubble tea and make sure to check out FUKI’s love song LOVE and CRY, which is based on a true story. The song is currently available on a number of digital music services. 

     

    Teen girls full of love problems find FUKI’S songs highly relatable. As Yokohama World Porters will be lit up for Christmas, you just can’t miss FUKI’s performance on December 25.

    Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger has announced a new luxury line entitled THE ONITSUKA. They have created a hybrid design combining formal shoes with sneakers that goes with a variety of styles, from suits to casual.

    The shoes are made from high quality leather from the brand Kobegyu Leather. The heal of the souls are equipped with αGEL Foam to offer comfort and shock resistance for dynamic movement. This line will also be available to purchase at a concept store opening in New York in March 2020.

    AKIRA ART OF WALL (Floors 4F & B1F)

    The new PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO and GALLERY X housed inside Shibuya PARCO both aim to promote art and culture to the people of Tokyo. Decorating them as the opening exhibition is the “AKIRA ART OF WALL Katsuhiro Otomo × Kosuke Kawamura AKIRA ART EXHIBITION.” This art wall is in fact a relocation of the AKIRA art wall that had existed at the infrastructure building site in Shibuya for almost two years. Parts of it had been damaged over time, and so has resurfaced at the new museum.

    You can also get your hands on a range of merchandise, from classic manga prints to posters, clothing made in collaboration with apparel brands, and more. This is a limited-time exhibition, so if you’re in Tokyo this December, don’t miss out.

    Mataro Doll released its new Pikachu Edo Kimekomi Ningyo doll on November 13. The doll is available in store and on the company’s website while supplies last.

     

    Mataro Doll was established in 1919. The company is a a creator of traditional Japanese dolls and is recognised by Kamigamo Shrine as the founder and only legitimate creator of the kimekokomi ningyo doll. It drew much attention in 2018 for creating a Hatsune Miku hina doll, and is about to get another wave of interest as it has created an official Pikachu kimekokomi doll, retaining the Pokémon’s character and cuteness.

    Pikachu is loved by kids and adults alike. This traditional Pikachu craft too can be enjoyed by people of all ages with its more sophisticated and high-quality appearance.

     

    Mataro Dolls makes all of their items and wares by hand without the use of 3D printers or CAD. They studied Pikachu in great detail to create their new doll. Although the people working at Mataro Dolls are experts in their field, they explained how capturing the characteristic qualities of the character was no easy task.

    Pikachu’s yellow fur features a flowery design which is typical of traditional Japanese dolls. Catch your own one of these Pikachu dolls for a combination of traditional Japan and Japanese pop culture.
