Catch Your Favourite Pokémon at the Pokémon Café in Nihonbashi

08.July.2019 | FEATURES / FOOD / SPOT

Hello, everyone. I’m Ren Koseki.

Whether it’s the anime series, Pokémon Go or one of the many other games, the Pokémon franchise is loved by kids and adults alike. There was even the recent Detective Pikachu movie which was a huge hit as well! Obviously I went to see it too. That fluffy Pikachu was just too cute. Check out my Detective Pikachu hat in the photo.

I absolutely adore Pokémon and find myself often dining together with them at the Pokémon Café. Today, I’d like to show you all what it’s like there!

The Pokémon Café is located inside the Pokémon Center (a merchandise shop) on the 5th floor of Nihombashi Takashimaya S.C.. It’s important to keep in mind that the café is reservation-only. You must book a specific time slot before going. You can do this by heading to the café’s official website.

Pokémon roam all around the café – it’s like a dream come true for all fans! Trying to spot them all is another part of the fun of coming here.

There’s a photo spot inside with two Pikachu in the background wearing cute staff uniforms. Expect to see Pikachu in many different forms like this which you won’t find anywhere else.

Of course, the food and drinks on the menu are all Pokémon-themed too. Here is the drink I ordered:

Choose-Your-Own-Pokémon Latte: ¥756 (Tax Included)

The café’s classic latte. You can choose to have latte art from all Pokémon up to No. 251 in the Pokédex. I ordered the Detective Pikachu version of Jigglypuff. I didn’t want to ruin the beautiful art so it was hard to drink!

And for food…

Eevee Teriyaki Chicken Burger: ¥1,598 (Tax Included)

I ordered the Eevee burger which is available for a limited time until September 6. The café menu has regular options as well as limited-time-only items too so you’re bound to see something new every time you visit.

Most importantly however is that you can expect a visit to your table from a real Pokémon!

Whoa, so fluffy! Eevee came to visit me this time around. You will get a visit from either Pikachu or Eevee. This was my 4th or 5th time at the café but the first time I got to encounter Eevee!

The Pokémon are led to each table by the staff to strike cute poses for you, and you’re free to take as many photos and videos are you like!

This is my personal recommendation, but it’s fun to take a photo together with your latte art and plush toy of your favourite Pokémon.

It looks like my Squirtle is enjoying itself too.

And that’s the Pokémon Café, a dreamland for any Pokémon lover. Be sure to visit♡

  • Pokémon Center, Nintendo Shop & More to Open at Shibuya PARCO in November (Part 1)

    28.June.2019 | FEATURES / SPOT

After having been closed since August 7, 2016 for renovations, it has been revealed that the new Shibuya PARCO shopping complex is set to open in late November. The new building aims to be a “global shopping complex for a new generation.”

Building on the complex’s facilities, Shibuya PARCO’s will communicate new forms of entertainment and experience together with designers and artists. Its goal is to deliver cultural trends on a global level. To do this, it is further developing aspects of the building to drive its unique perspective by focusing on the design, art and entertainment side of things.

Around 180 unique stores will open their doors in the new Shibuya PARCO each of which pivot around 5 different themes: Fashion, Art & Culture, Entertainment, Food, and Technology. Multiple floors are being specially designed to form the interior of the complex so that they draw out the appeal of each of these individual genres.

Today, we will take a look at two of these themes: Fashion and Art & Culture.

On the Fashion floor, customers can expect to slalom between up to 100 stores shelved with a plethora of styles representative of Tokyo’s melting pot of cultures, from luxury to mode, street, casual, vintage and more.

The Fashion floor is bolstering its range of new generation fashion designers and brands and will have new points of sale that aim in the promotion of their names. For example, the art direction for the shop naming and logo of GEYSER PARCO on the third floor was created by YAR, a creative team spearheaded by YOSHIROTTEN.

The floor won’t just take into account the purchasing of clothing either―it will also cater clothes that have already been bought. There will even be an environmentally-friendly cleaning service for those fashionistas treasure their threads as well as repairs for a variety of clothes carried about by specialists and more, giving customers an incentive to make frequent use of Shibuya PARCO.

In the Art & Culture department, Shibuya PARCO will offer the PARCO MUSEUM which will exhibit a line-up of unprecedented artwork focused on art, design and fashion, al built uniquely from the ground up.

The museum’s logo was created by design group TOMATO while the interior décor was co-developed by two Japanese interior designers.

GALLERY X, originally located at Spain-Zaka in Shibuya, is moving to Shibuya PARCO’s B1F floor. The PARCO staff have curated an edgy assortment of art pieces from multiple art fields spanning anime, games and music.

A gallery-style shop is also opening to allow visitors to come into contact with a myriad of cultures. Names include OIL by Bijutsu Techo who will promote contemporary art and who are appearing inside a shop for the first time, Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun who will have their own ‘cultural information desk’ Hobo Nichi Karu-chan to communicate Tokyo culture, and more.

The sixth floor is the ‘Japan Culture’ zone where there will be Nintendo Tokyo, Pokémon Center Shibuya, a Touken Ranbu bookshop, and plenty of other Japanese pop culture content. It is an amalgamation of games, anime, E-sports, art, fashion and more where visitors can not only buy things but experience pop culture with all five of their senses. This is sure to be a hit with foreign visitors.

In the next article we will take a look at Entertainment, Food and Technology so stay tuned.

When the city lights switch off for the night, the former Milky Way will shine its radiant brilliance. 27.June.2020 | SPOT

Hoshino Resorts’s new cafe Hoshino Resorts Banta Cafe will open in the village of Yomitan in Okinawa on July 1, 2020, offering a spectacular view.

The cafe is split into four distinct areas which overlook the the beach from atop a cliff. Customers are invited to take in the breathtaking scenery with a delicious dessert made from ingredients like mangoes, pineapple, and sugar—or a tasty meal.

An incredible beach cafe overlooking the sea

Banta Cafe runs along the western coast of Yomitan, a village in central Okinawa which is about an hour’s drive from Naha Airport. The cafe gets its name from iyumibanta which in Okinawan dialect refers to the cliffs you climb to spot the shadows of fish in the water, and is also the name they give to enormous rocks. The cafe is located atop one of these iyumibanta, or cliffs, making Banta Cafe a fitting name. From the cliff, customers can enjoy a panoramic view of the horizon which stretches across infinity. According to Hoshino Resorts, Banta Cafe sits as the largest beach cafe in Japan, spanning 1600㎡.

4 Unique Areas to Pick From

Having four distinct areas to choose from means you can select where you want to go depending on your mood on the day. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Rooftop Deck: A panoramic view welcomes you

Beyond the entrance is the Rooftop Deck which offers an unbroken view of the horizon. With the comfortable shadow cast by the eaves of the roof, and the sound of the rolling waves and wind, it feels like you’re sitting on the deck of a boat.

Beach Terrace: Kick back and enjoy the sea breeze

The Beach Terrace is located along a footpath that leads from the top of the cliff down to the beach. This spacious area sits nice and close to the sea. The Okinawan Ryukyu-tatami flooring has cushions for you to sit on as well as cabanas, so you can sit and chat with people while enjoying the view of the ocean, offering the real Okinawan experience.

Rocky Terrace: Lose yourself in the green wild of nature

The Rocky Terrace is enveloped in plants and vegetation that has grown naturally—it’s like a hideaway created by nature. The area has a wooden deck and rocking chairs for people to kick back and relax in, and there are tables with towering rocks that offer shade too.

Goro Goro Lounge: Lay down on a sofa and look out to the sea

The final area is the Goro Goro Lounge where an entire wall is made up of open windows. Here, you can relax and lay down nice and comfy on the sofas. There are long tables by the sofas too, perfect for pulling out a map or guidebook and planning the rest of your trip.

    A true Okinawan cafe experience

The cafe’s “Bully Jelly Soda” is inspired from a traditional bubbly Okinawan tea called bukubuku cha. It’s flavoured with lemongrass and mint and contains different jellies like mango and hibiscus.

    Chulato

This gelato ice cream gets its name from the Okinawan word for delicious which is chura. Choose from a variety of classic Okinawan flavours like pineapple and guava and top your ice cream with purple yam and bitter melon chips, chinsuko, and more.

    Food Menu

The food lineup is to die for, with tasty bites like pizza toast topped with bitter melon, pork and egg rice ball which is a soul food of Okinawa, hot dogs filled with juicy sausages, shrimp fritters served with mango sauce, fried chicken, and plenty of other finger food.

Witness the magnificent sunset during business hours

Banta Cafe is home to a gorgeous beach with coral. The sea is cobalt blue as far as the eyes can see, there are strangely shaped rocks worn by the waves, and in the evenings is an incredible view of the sunset which can be enjoyed with a cocktail in hand.

    Hoshino Resorts Olu Grill

Banta Cafe will also have its own separate grilled food restaurant called Olu Grill. Olu is another Okinawan word which means “blue,” in this case referring to the blue ocean. From fried steak served with an original sauce made from Okinawan awamori liquor and kurozu black vinegar to seafood and juicy burgers, there’s plenty to fill you up.
