Hi, everyone! I’m Banako and I work at the MOSHI MOSHI BOX Harajuku Tourist Information Center.
THE PARFAIT STAND is a newly opened store in Harajuku that specialises in takeout parfaits. I dropped by to see what they’re all about. Here’s the report.
To get there, head out of Takeshita Exit at Harajuku Station and you’ll find it immediately to your left.
Originally there was a collection of train ticket machines there, but they renovated the space to open the new store. It’s literally outside the station!
The staff all welcomed me with gleaming smiles.
THE PARFAIT STAND is the popular sister store to BAKE CHEESE TART which, as the name suggests, sells freshly baked cheese tarts. Deliciousness is guaranteed.
There are two items on the menu! You have the Parfait Chocolate Blanc (¥756 w/tax) made with rich chocolate and bitter coffee, and the Strawberry White Parfait (¥972) which is a limited-edition item available until May 31st. They’re both amazing in their own way – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
After a lot of thought, I decided to go with the limited edition Strawberry White Parfait!
I thought it was fresh cream that crowned the top of the parfait, but contrary to my expectations it was meringue! It has a crunchy and crumbly texture and its mellow sweetness fills your mouth.
The parfait contains a milk pudding made with vanilla ice cream and Hokkaido milk. It’s also filled with thick strawberry jelly and mousse. The texture is irresistible from top to bottom – you won’t grow tired of it at any section.
You can get yourself an authentic, cute takeout parfait too at THE PARFAIT STAND. Just holding it is kawaii and something new to take onto the streets of Harajuku with you♡

The big wall painting beside BEAMS Harajuku was depicted by an artist ZIO ZIEGLER. The wall painting is very outstanding since the wall is painted black and white!

A famous wall which is often featured on TV programs. The wall is located at the end of the street (Meiji Street) between New Balance and Muraski Sports.
Santo Nibunno Ichi
You will find this colorful building by going straight down the street between New Balance and Murasaki Sports located on Meiji Street, make a right turn at Family Mart and then make a right turn again at the first corner. The building includes tenants such as Harajuku’s popular second-hand-clothing store, “Santo Nibunno Ichi” and the photogenic ice cream shop, “Eddy’s Ice Cream.”

This store is suitable to be used as a resting place. This is the strawberry parfait (1,200 yen – tax included) sold at this store located near the intersection of Meiji Street and Tonchan Street. The store is located above the power stone store and they sell sweets items that are great souvenirs.
You will feel happy eating sweets items here since many of their items include lots of big strawberries! The texture and taste of the ice cream is similar to gelato.

Have you heard of “Rainbow Soft Cream?” It is a sweets item sold in Harajuku that is gathering much attention on SNS nowadays. Harajuku is a place where many ice cream stores are located.
“LE SHINER” which sells this item is often featured in TV programs as a shop that is offering Instagrammable sweets items.
To get to the store, exit JR Yamanote Line – Harajuku Station / Takeshita Exit and walk straight down Takeshita Street. Then, make a right turn at the intersection where CROQUANTCHOU ZAKUZAKU is located. You can’t miss it, and the pink-colored bear sitting outside the shop will be there to greet you.
Rainbow Soft Cream (810 yen – tax included)
This is their popular sweets item –“Rainbow Soft Cream.” Rainbow colored fresh cream is placed around the pink-colored ice cream.
I love desserts, so I love this item. The look of this item and the store is so gorgeous and cute, so I took many photos.
“LE SHINER” sells many popular items such as “Light Bulb Soda” and “Cheese Dog” in addition to “Rainbow Soft Cream.”

Japanese anime is a big hit all over the world. Lately, a new one has been climbing the rankings. Have you heard of Pop Team Epic?
Pop Team Epic (Poptepipic) is a digital manga series that uses punchy images and snappy phrases. It has become increasingly popular as a surreal visual gag manga. Now, it’s not only turning into a big hit in Japan, but all over the world!
We heard that Harajuku’s dessert café Sweets Paradise is opening a collaboration café with Pop Team Epic, and as big anime fans ourselves, we immediately set off with MOSHI MOSHI BOX staff member Ruki to check it out.
To get there, exit Harajuku station (JR Yamanote line) from Takeshita exit and walk straight. On your left, you will notice the shopping centre SoLaDo Takeshita Street (SoLaDo竹下通り) . You will find “Sweets Paradise on the 3rd floor.
To eat at Sweets Paradise, first you need to purchase a ticket from the machine at the entrance and then enter the café.
There are two courses available:
1 collaboration meal + drink + sweets banquet set ¥1950 (price including tax)
1 collaboration dessert + drink + sweets banquet set ¥2150 (price including tax)
You can also add foods and drinks from the Pop Team Epic collaboration menu to your chosen meal plan for ￥500. To do this, buy the appropriate ticket from the machine at the entrance.
There are Pop Team Epic decorations all around the café!
There is even a small set where you can destroy the Takeshobo publishing office, which comes up in the manga!
There are two types of seats inside the café: “anti-sama/ Takeshobo company employee seats” and the “believers’ seats” . The “anti-sama” tables are decorated very simply. In contrast, the “believers’” tables are draped with beautiful table cloths and are near a large screen that is showing episodes from the Pop Team Epic anime.
Being slightly peckish, Ruki did not waste time in scooping up the menu. This dish is called “Aaaaah ichimen no Kusomidori Pasta” （Aaahh a plate of gross green pasta）. The random words of countryside-raised Pop Team Epic character Popuko, has been made into a pasta dish.
Ruki: “Spinach, edamame and broccoli – this truly is a green dish! The basil sauce is very simple yet delicious! Is this the true taste of nature?!
This is the “Konna kao ni naru lemon Juice” (Lemon juice that makes you pull this face). Although a bold move, half the lemon is cut and placed as it is in the glass. Whatever the menu, the names of the foods are crazy! Just what you would expect from Pop Team Epic.
Riku’s reaction to the sour drink was predicted by the name of the drink!
This is the “Haken Parfait” (Hegemony parfait) You can even order one that is the size of Ruki’s head! This is one filling dessert! The word “覇権” (hegemony) is written on a macaron that sits on top of a pile of fruits and strawberry sherbet. At the foot of the parfait lies a wafer with a picture of a ladder on it.
The parfait is an original art piece that depicts a ladder which leads to the top of the parfait to have been toppled over. After looking up the word “覇権” and realizing its meaning, Ruki laughed a lot.
The last item Ruki ordered arrived. The Imi ga wakarimasu ka? Café latte. (Do you know what this means? Café latte) As you can imagine, it was quite difficult to say this name to the waiters and waitresses when ordering. There’s a pie chart drawn on the latte, but 90% of it is filled in with the answer “no”.
Ruki: It goes well with the desserts because it isn’t sweet!
If you order from the collaboration menu, you will receive a novelty 2019 New Year’s card… even though we have just started 2018…
Pop Team Epic goods are also selling at the cash register! The variety of goods stretched from stickers, keyrings and manga to toilet paper with scenes from the manga printed on it!
The café is only open until 13th March. Opening times vary depending on the café, so make sure you check the opening times before turning up. Don’t miss out on your chance to eat at the Pop Team Epic collaboration café because the manga is becoming more and more popular!

Café Casa
“Café Casa” is a long-standing shop whose flavours have remained the same, serving to parents and children through the generations. Everything from the signboard to the illustrated menu and stained glass window created by the owner will leave you feeling cozy. The colour green envelops the café against other vivid colours. Due to customer demand the hot cakes sold there (￥750) have been a familiar item on the menu for almost 20 years. The contrast between the crunchy outside and fluffy inside is exquisite. They’re different from your usual pancakes and have a nostalgic feel to them. Combine them with maple syrup and you’ve got yourself a truly delicious treat.

This stylish café can be found by walking from Harajuku Station down Takeshita Street for about 5-minutes. When you reach the end, turn right and look for the green signboard. The main food on the menu is pancakes, all of which are made with the best ingredients and made one-by-one after an order comes in. The most popular and recommended item on the menu is the fluffy “Premium Pancake” (￥950). The soft pancake wobbles as the waiter brings it over – it looks like it will collapse just by being placed on the table. Eat this to experience the fluffiest and softest texture you have ever eaten.

Bills Tokyo Plaza Omotesando
Bills serve the world’s most famous breakfast and were responsible for causing Japan’s pancake boom. Located in Tokyo Plaza Omotesando Harajuku, the shop’s Australian Ricotta Pancakes. Spread underneath the thick pancake are slices of fresh banana which you eat together with honey comb butter and maple syrup. The marriage between the salty ricotta cheese and sweet syrup is to die for.

“Jinguen” is a gallery café located in Ura-Harajuku. Recommended from their menu are their thick homemade hot cakes. The outside of the hot cake is crisp while the middle is silky smooth. Of course, they go really well with maple syrup. You can also add vanilla icing, whipped cream, and chocolate or strawberry sauce.

Working Holiday Connections – Harajuku Omotesando YM Square Branch
This café is just a one-minute walk from Meiji Jingu Station via Tokyo Metro on the second floor of YM Square. It has tall glass windows which open up the shop and give you a sense of space. Their original “Manly Pancakes” draw a line between standard pancakes and the recent emerging thick and fluffy pancakes to unveil an original and unique texture. The subtle flavour of the eggs make the pancakes melt-in-the-mouth and match perfectly with syrup and fresh cream.

This place’s specialty menu item is their Honolulu Pancakes. They’re incredibly thick, with a crumbly outside and soft middle. These luxurious pancakes have a special flavour made for adults. They are drizzled with butter and fresh cream, and you can choose sausages or bacon to go with them. Eating them with your choice of honey or maple syrup is simply irresistible!

A question we’ve been getting a lot at the MOSHI MOSHI BOX recently is about cafés where you can sit down – ones with free spaces. Harajuku is particularly crowded on weekends and holidays, so you do need a little courage when heading to a café there, right?
So today, I’m going to show you some little-known good cafés in Harajuku!
Shuu – Harjauku Omotesando Branch
“Shuu” is a café just one minutes’ walk from Harajuku Station. It has a really relaxed and retro atmosphere. The seats are roomy, and they even have lots of sofas, so you can spend a super chill time there. There’s also spacious VIP seats which may be relief to some adults out there. As well as the regular set menu, the café also serves up seasonal menus, so be sure to check it out.■Information

This small café can be found along Meiji-dori which neighbours the traffic lights at the exit of Takeshita Street. It’s on the 3rd floor of a mixed residence building, so I reckon there’s not a lot of people who know of this place. It has a retro-decorated interior. They’re known for their omurice! The mild cheese and gentle flavour of the Japanese style dashi is to die for.

This café is about 3-minutes by foot from Harajuku Station towards the lanes. I recommend their handmade sandwiches which come absolutely stuffed with fresh vegetables and juicy chicken. The interior décor is wooden, giving it a calm vibe where you can spend a relaxing time. If you love bread, then this café will be irresistible for you.

Enseigne d’angle
Enseigne d’angle is a 5-minute walk from Harajuku Station via the Takeshita Exit. It’s a coffee shop that stands still and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Harajuku’s crowded streets. They’re famous for their “Kohaku Jouou” beverage and “Croque-monsieur.” They serve up authentic coffee and meals in a relaxed, calm environment.

Café Morinoterasu
Just a 1-minute walk from JR Harajuku Station or Meiji-Jingumae Station lies the Meiji Shrine. Just before the first torii gate you will find Café Morinoterasu, a tranquil place enveloped in nature. You can feel the warmth of the trees inside the café. The counters and chairs were made from old, withering trees on the shrine grounds. I recommend the eclairs and croissants prepared every day, or the tofu milk gelato. Not many people know about this hidden gem yet.

You’ll know you’ve found “sorama gallery+coffee” once you see its red doors. To find it, leave the 5th exit of Meiji Jingumae Station and head past the nearby McDonalds and Senbikiya. If you then turn left just before the Ukiyo-e Ōta Memorial Museum of Art, you’ll find it there. The cafè is small and compact with just a wooden bench for about 3 people to sit on as well as a number of individual stools. The sunlight pours through into the shop, and because of its wooden interior, you can stay nice and warm. It’s so relaxing there that you won’t even see the time fly by.

The Harajuku-based brand KAWAII MONSTER CAFE has announced a traveling store, KAWAII MONSTER SHOP. As the project’s first event, a Halloween pop-up shop named ‘KAWAII MONSTER SHOP – Colorful Halloween’ will open for 10 days starting October 19 in the birthplace of the brand, Harajuku.
KAWAII MONSTER CAFE is an entertainment restaurant that embodies the vibe of Harajuku in Tokyo, a town that swallows fashion and culture from places around the world and reimagines them into unrestrained originality. Originally opened in 2015 and produced by artist Sebastian Masuda, the colorful and crazy space offered photogenic food and drinks, and guests were served by the iconic Monster Girls clad in future Harajuku fashion. It became a ‘new Tokyo landmark,’ attracting over 700,000 visitors from both Japan and abroad. Even after the restaurant closed in January 2021, its one-of-a-kind concept has lived on in pop-up shops, events, and collaborations with various brands and creators.
The pop-up shop, open in Harajuku for a limited time starting October 19, offers food and drinks, merchandise, special experiences, and photo spots themed around the spooky Halloween season. Additionally, a collaboration with the popular Harajuku accessory store 6%DOKIDOKI will be held from October 19-22. Colorful hair accessories will be on sale, and shop girls with Monster Girls makeup experience will be giving seasonal makeovers to visitors.
■FOOD & DRINK
During the first half of the event, the pop-up shop will be serving food made in collaboration with the hot dog specialty restaurant HOTDOG CAFE STAND STATION TOKYO. The limited-edition menu includes the crazy Monster Dog, consisting of a monster holding a sausage in its mouth, and the monstrous Philly Cheesesteak, made with juicy tenderloin and tons of cheese.
The second half of the event will feature the Colorful Pop Burger Blue Monster (Teriyaki Chicken) from KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s popular menu, along with French Fries with Monster Dip served with five different colorful sauces. Visitors are welcome to get into the Halloween spirit by enjoying the Monster Float during the pop-up event.

HARAJUKU COLLECTIVE, a Collaboration Between Hot Topic & Studio Ghibli, Gets Pop-Up Store at Shinsaibashi PARCO
Last year, the HARAJUKU COLLECTIVE collaboration appeared at AF Gallery in Harajuku from August 10 until August 28, garnering massive acclaim from fans. The collection is now being sold at Shinsaibashi PARCO until March 12, 2023.
HARAJUKU COLLECTIVE is a Studio Ghibli-inspired apparel collection by the popular American counterculture chain Hot Topic. Bringing more Japanese culture to the ongoing Studio Ghibli collaboration launched in 2014, Hot Topic stores began selling original items produced by nine Japanese creators and brands, as well as some original American items produced by Hot Topic’s executive designers.
The lineup of Japan-original items includes T-shirts, tote bags, and other items featuring exclusive artwork by up-and-coming creators. Laforet Harajuku will host a pop-up shop inspired by the up-and-coming idol group FRUITS ZIPPER from February 1 until February 14! The FRUITS ZIPPER Valentine Pop-Up Shop will be found on the 5th floor MAKE THE STAGE area.
FRUITS ZIPPER debuted in April 2022 and embodies a simple concept: “From Harajuku to the World.” The group’s second single Watashino Ichiban Kawaiitokoro exploded in popularity on TikTok, pulling in over 600 million views. In February, the girls will embark on their first solo concert tour in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. This is the first FRUITS ZIPPER-inspired limited-time shop, and during the event, visuals of the group’s members will be displayed in the show windows found on the first floor of Laforet Harajuku.
◆About the FRUITS ZIPPER Valentine Pop-Up Shop
When entering the venue, fans will be greeted by a 5-meter-wide board where visitors can write and attach their messages to the FRUITS ZIPPER members on heart-shaped cards. Costumes that the members have worn on stage will also be on display, allowing fans to see each stitch up close.
Exclusive items featuring new photos of the members will be on sale at the pop-up shop. Fans can enjoy seeing the girls in their own personal style, and these items will only be available during the event! Kobe is filled with famous sightseeing spots like the nostalgic Ijinkan neighborhood and port. The city is packed with fashionable shops and restaurants and is highly regarded for its selection of tasty sweets!

Recently, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu began starring in a series of promotional videos for the Gastropolis Kobe project. The artist traveled to the city to partake in plenty of delicious treats, and MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON went along for the ride! Here are some of the singer’s favorite spots around town.
Kobe, known as a city where East meets West, is lined with sweets shops that are unique to the area.
The tea salon TOOTH TOOTH Dekoboko Sabo opened in 2019 in the Kobe City Museum and offers a menu that mixes Western food and sweets with tea and ingredients from traditional Japanese cuisine. Kyary ordered the Dekoboko Sabo Afternoon Tea Set, a collection of western sweets blended with the essence of traditional Japanese flavors. Guests are invited to enjoy their tea and sweets in a one-of-a-kind space filled with Meiji period flare and retro Western furniture. Those interested will need to make a reservation, so be sure to remember the next time you’re in Kobe.

The next stop was Kobe Nankin-machi, one of the three major Chinatowns in Japan. Kobe MILK is known nationwide for its Apricot Pudding, which is made with local ingredients. The raw apricot pudding is mixed with milk brought from the foot of Mt. Rokko and other ingredients from Hyogo Prefecture. Of course, Kyary ordered some, and was amazed by its fluffy texture. You can only enjoy it in Kobe–also, the shop sells other puddings mixed with seasonal fruits, so don’t miss those either!

For Kyary’s final stop, the singer visited the Moore House, a cafe located in a building with over 100 years of history. Guests are surrounded by greenery, and the Western-style building is incredibly elegant. The Strawberry Mille-feuille Kyary ordered was created by an expert patissier and based on the strawberry mille-feuille recipe from the legendary French restaurant Maxim’s de Paris in Ginza. A generous amount of custard cream complements the crispy pie crust and enhances the sweetness of the fresh strawberries. We’d recommend it with a glass of champagne–if you’re of age.

The global online fashion brand SHEIN has become wildly popular, shipping goods to over 150 countries. The world’s first permanent brick-and-mortar SHEIN store will open in Harajuku, Tokyo on November 13, 2022, displaying popular styles and items perfect for the Japanese market. All items on display will be available for purchase on the official SHEIN app simply by scanning the QR code on the tag. While items won’t be available to purchase in-store, the location will be a place where curious customers can try things on and explore new trends. The store has two floors and carries women’s and men’s wear, as well as kids’ wear, pet goods, and accessories. In addition to standard fitting rooms, there will also be a photo booth and SHEIN gacha machine!
This summer, the brand held its first pop-up event in Japan, traveling to five cities over two days. In October 2022, the three-month-long SHEIN POPUP OSAKA event invited customers could try on clothes and discover new styles.

Momoko Sakura’s popular series Chibi Maruko-chan is filled with beloved characters, and Coji-Coji has remained a fan favorite for decades. Starting in October 2022, fans will be able to grab goods from the new COJI-COJI BABY brand.

Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo will hold a special Christmas-themed Sylvanian Families buffet starting November 1, 2022. This is the second Sylvanian Families event following the previous Halloween-themed buffet, which became extremely popular. Some guests even bring their own Sylvanian Families dolls!
Starting in November, visitors can enjoy a full lineup of 20 scrumptious dishes inspired by the cake shop found in Sylvania Village. Some sweets are also inspired by the many beloved characters found in the series, and anyone wanting to get into the Christmas spirit won’t want to miss this exclusive event. For those without a sweet tooth, some light lunches will also be available.
The restaurant will also erect a decorative display of Sylvanian Families enjoying a Christmas party and a sweet diorama made exclusively of desserts by the pasty chef. Guests can enjoy tea time while getting lost in this magical world, so get excited about the Christmas season!

These three limited-time items are filled with fall flavors. The Tsujiri Soft Autumn Parfait is filled with Uji green tea carefully selected by tea masters and topped with purple sweet potato paste, sweet potato nectar, and other gorgeous goodies.
The Kyo Latte Smoothie with Purple Sweet Potato features an autumn-only flavor combining purple sweet potato bean paste, cream, and sweet potato nectar with Tsujiri’s matcha green tea smoothie. The Hojicha version is made with luxurious Uji Hojicha and milk for a soothing experience.
