Explore Harajuku Virtually as Virtual Shibuya Announces New Harajuku Area
Virtual Shibuya has announced that its new Harajuku area will open on May 25, 2021. The virtual experience is hosted on Cluster, a virtual social media platform.
Shibuya 5G Entertainment Project launched the “Virtual Shibuya” back in May of last year in collaboration with KDDI, Shibuya Future Design, and the Shibuya Tourism Association. Officially recognised by Shibuya City, Virtual Shibuya comes in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which has brought tight restrictions to the economy and people’s way of life. It enables people to continue enjoying entertainment from the comfort of their homes by participating in a whole host of virtual events and activities. The project aims to deliver content from Shibuya with live performances from artists, art exhibitions, talks, and more. The use of 5G and the latest cutting edge technology connects the real Shibuya to a virtual space, combining the realms of the digital and real world.
Virtual Harajuku is the second area to open in the service and brings together the iconic locations surrounding Jingumae Crossing such as Laforet Harajuku and Tokyu Plaza. As part of the new area’s launch, Japanese pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has been announced as a Special Supporter of the service. The singer and model made her debut on the streets of Harajuku with her unique fashion. Ten years since her debut, she will continue promoting Harajuku from the service.
Tokyo Revengers Anime Opening Theme ‘Cry Baby’ by Official HIGE DANdism Release Date Announced
Official HIGE DANdism’s song Cry Baby will be released on music streaming and download services on May 7, 2021. The track is used as the opening theme for the ongoing anime adaptation of Ken Wakui’s manga series Tokyo Revengers. The manga has been published in Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2017 and has sold over 8 million copies.

Official HIGE DANdism are set to perform at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama on June 23 and 24 to a live audience. The show is titled Official HIGE DANdism Road to “one – man tour 2021-2022 (tentative title)” and serves as a lead up to their upcoming 46 show tour one – man tour 2021-2022 (tentative title) which begins this September and will take place at 16 cities up and down Japan. Japanese Music Artists Talk About Music They Listened to When They Were 14

TOKYO FM and 37 other Japan FM radio networks are set to air a special program on April 22 at 19:00 (JST) titled Life Time Audio～My First Music “14-Year-Old’s Playlist.”
TOKYO FM celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 26, 2021. In line with the milestone, the radio network launched a new brand promise: Life Time Audio, a radio special that promotes audio content that enrichens people’s lives through music will weaving stories that connect with everyday people. It aims to be a place where people encounter musical experiences and audio content that gives people meaning as they broadcast each and every day their new show Life Time Audio～My First Music “14-Year-Old’s Playlist” is inspired by a New York Times article published in 2018 titled The Songs That Bind which looks at how music heard when you are 14 years of age sets in stone your music preferences.
The live broadcast will be hosted by Daisuke Tooyama who worked as the principal of the Japanese radio show SCHOOL OF LOCK! for 10 years until 2020. Listeners can submit the music they listened to when they were 14-years-old either on the show’s official website or on social media using the Japanese hashtag #14歳のプレイリスト (“14-Year-Old’s Playlist”) which will be discussed each episode. Guest artists will also talk about what music they were listening to back then. In the first episode, Masamune Kusano of Spitz talks with Aimyon. Aimyon has publicly stated that she has loved Spitz since elementary school. Masamune will talk Aimyon about other artists she listened to growing up, her music roots, and more. They will also talk about Spitz’s latest single Murasaki no Yoru o Koete as well as Aimyon’s new song Koi o Shiru Made wa which will be released on May 26 and is used as the main theme for the Japanese drama show Konto ga Hajimaru.
Official HIDE DANdism will also feature as guests on the show. The band formed while they were all in university. It is mentioned that members will talk about not having gone to school much, not getting along with people, their first live shows, and more. They will also talk about what music they want 14-year-olds to listen to.

RADWIMPS Release New Album in Commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake’s 10th Anniversary

When the Great East Japan Earthquake struck Japan back on March 11, 2011, RADWIMPS immediately set up a donation project called Itoshiki. The band offered support to the relief effort in collaboration with other fellow musicians, creators, and actors. Almost every year since then, on March 11, the band has written and released a new song to show support to areas that were devastated by the disaster together with a music video made by Japanese videographer Daisuke Shimada.
On this year’s March 11, the 10th anniversary of the disaster, RADWIMPS dropped a new almost entitled 2+0+2+1+3+1+1= 10 years 10 songs.
RADWIMPS – “Aitai”
The album includes eight songs the band has already put out there to date as well as two other songs: Kakurenbo which serves as the main theme for the Japanese drama special Anata no Soba de Ashita ga Warau which covers the 10th anniversary of the earthquake, and Aitai, a new song that RADWIMPS released a video for on their YouTube channel.
The new album will be released in three editions, two of which are coupled with a DVD and Blu-ray respectively which include the video projects RADWIMPS made together with Shimada.
Proceeds made from the album will be donated towards further relief effort across Japan including the Japanese Red Cross Society, local governments, and more.
Japanese Unisex Loungewear Brand Arce Opens Online Store

Wanget’s unisex loungewear brand Arce launched its online shop on Wednesday (February 17). The brand is hosting a campaign on its social media pages to promote the launch where customers can win some free items.
Arce was established from Makuake on November 25, 2020. The brand creates clothes made in Japan using environmentally-friendly Japanese materials. Their loungewear is versatile and can be worn not only indoors but outdoors too, and even when going to meet people. The clothes are shipped in boxes made from FSC-certified cardboard, and the vinyl bags used to protect each item are made using biodegradable saccharum officinarum.
Arce held its first exhibition in Japan on November 25 and 26 last year to resounding success, bringing in many customers.
The brand is currently holding a campaign on its Instagram page from February 17 to 28 where people can enter for a chance to win the above-pictured T-shirt and pullover. This year marks the 10th anniversary since Japanese pop star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu made her debut, and to kick off 2021, she has announced the release of a new single titled GUM GUM GIRL which will hit music streaming and download platforms on January 29, 2021.

The singer also unveiled a new look which features metallic silver paper to represent the inside of gum packaging. Her magical makeup sees her face lined with rhinestones, serving stylish, futuristic vibes.
Kyary has been involved in the promotion of the Nintendo Switch title Ninjala, and in the game’s latest commercial, she makes an appearance alongside Japanese comedy trio Yonsen Toshin to play the game. You can also hear a snippet of GUM GUM GIRL in the commercial. Check it out below.

Ninjala is a popular title across the globe having been downloaded over 5 million times. In June 2020, a remix of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s hit song Ninja Re Bang Bang was released by Steve Aoki in collaboration with the game. The song was also made available in-game in October.
Kyary is once again teaming up with Ninjala to feature her new single GUM GUM GIRL in-game, and a special GUM GUM GIRL T-shirt is being released for player avatars. These will be available from January 29 to February 18. Ninja Re Bang Bang Steve Aoki Remix, the clothing item, and dance emote released for that song will also be re-released during this time.

RADWIMPS have announced the release of their first-ever non-fiction book Antoki no RADWIMPS “Jinsei Deai” Hen which will hit shelves in Japan on February 15, 2021.
The book’s author is Masatoshi Watanabe who has been in charge of RADWIMPS at their record company from their major debut to today. Their first major album released was Radwimps 3: Mujintō ni Motte Ikiwasureta Ichimai back in February 2006 which was followed shortly by Radwimps 4: Okazu no Gohan in December of the same year. These two records served to shoot RADWIMPS into the stratosphere where their countless new fans awaited. Since then, the band have gone on to release hit after hit, causing a blaze of excitement in the industry with each new record.

RADWIMPS have announced that they are launching a virtual live music experience by the name of ‘SHIN SEKAI’ on the virtual park system VARP which was developed by the Japanese creative collective PARTY. The concept of the project is “ROLE-PLAYING MUSIC” which will see RADWIMPS embarking to new territory in their career to deliver a unique experience to fans.
RADWIMPS made the difficult decision to cancel and postpone their Japan tour and world tour as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The SHIN SEKAI project comes not because of tour cancellations and therefore to replace real live shows with virtual ones, but to instead embrace and explore what is possible for the band in terms of a virtual concert either way. It will offer fans a new way to enjoy RADWIMPS music.

I had a tremendous dream a little before we went into discussions about VARP. There was a huge waterfall, and I saw buildings in ruin. I went through it all and saw groups of thousands of people. I’ve never had a dream like that before, and it left a real impression on me, and then I got the call [for this project]. I felt like it was far from a coincidence. I thought all of us going into this virtual space would give us a hint as to our futures, and so we set out on this journey together with everyone at PARTY.
We still don’t know what lies ahead of us for the future, but I pray that by coming together closer than before by being inside the world of VARP we can share each others’ feelings. I would be happy to embark on this journey with all of you.
